Great video as always. I've also found that aftermarket intakes that maintain the stock MAF housing size still flow differently even if the size is the same and will benefit from MAF rescaling. Changes related to exhaust (J/downpipe, catbacks etc) require remapping to make the best of them but generally nothing catastrophic will happen if you're waiting for a few other mods before getting it all tuned together.

1 thing that "might" be worth covering is how much flexibility ECU's have, in terms of pulling timing etc on certain mods. A lot of owners simply don't understand that the stock ECU is looking for certain things in the cycle to match up (air in, fuel in, air out) and if there's an imbalance in this due to a modification or fault the ECU will TRY and make changes to suit, but often cannot cope with extreme's like aftermarket parts, hence why mapping is required to TELL the ecu what's been done. Fuel cut/boost cut due to unmapped mods, boost spikes, etc could all tie into this.

Hi Duncan, I think Jason may have already asked you but, I recently got an imported Subaru exiga running the ej20 engine. When you’re down in Cornwall next might get it in with you to get it running better and maybe squeeze a little more out of it.

Vaguely related so will ask it here- is an aftermarket intake pipe (Samco for example), worth fitting before a remap along with other mods? I've heard the oem intake pipe can fail, but are there actual gains to be had from going with a silicone pipe replacement? My car (jdm hawk sti) is currently mapped with a couple mods but will be remapped again in the spring as I have a turbo back exhaust and sports cat down pipe to go on, debating whether to throw a silicone intake pipe on at the same time, in for a penny etc etc. Keep up the great videos!

Hi James.. Thanks for watching and the question 🙏 The std intake will not cause a restriction on power on your car for anything that the std turbo will be capable of. There is a benefit higher up power wise but lots of the silicone inlets introduce more problems that they fix so I wouldn't recommend changing. Good ones are very expensive and whereas some tuners will try to sell you one, there are big downsides. If the std inlet breaks, get another std one imo 👍 If you were to go bigger turbo (again I wouldnt recommend as it will change the characteristics of your super spooly jdm) then perhaps look at one of the solid aftermarket inlet hose options. I hope that helps.

It would not NEED remapping so long as just changing that but to get the extra power that is available because of the cooler air it would be beneficial 👍

😊thanks Duncan - I can email you no probs. Car has actually failed to start this morning so need to sort that first but I expect to be ready to go from next week as the new turbo is now fitted and was running fine last week. I’m swapping crank sensor this week and hoping to fix the cranks but won’t fire issue. Maybe I could just leave the car with you to have a few issues sorted and then mapped ? I will email you thanks 🙏

Hi Duncan, I have a 2008 sti looking at putting a bigger top mount intercooler (bigger surface area and volume) will it need to be mapped? or will it be fine to use until I do my sports cat and induction kit and get it booked in with you.

Hi Richard.. Thanks for the question.. Assuming it is a more efficient intercooler and no leaks it will onky make your car safer in the meantime.. Will be fine.. Or at least more fine than it is 😉👍

Bro is my legacy GT gen 3 jdm model need a remapping? What I heard alot is jdm twin turbo model is designed for 100 octane fuel we only have 98 but it's triple the price of 92. So everyone uses 92 except you're rich and riding a brand new G wagon or a Lexus. If so it's a true. Can it be mapped to 92 octane fuel?
@racedynamix
10 ай бұрын
Yeah they have fairly aggressive ignition timing for the jap fuel so really don't thank you for 92 octane. It depends on the Yr of yours as to which ecu is in it as to whether it can be mapped. An aftermarket ecu isn't an option as it won't control 2 turbos so unless you swap to single turbo the option is see if the std ecu can be tuned if not.. Octane booster and check to make sure everything is running safe and happy.

@@racedynamix thanks for the quick answer. Mine is from 2000. And it seems not a E-tune version or something just a regular one. From my research all over the internet this one is confirmed Rev-B. Do you guys have flash tuning service?
@racedynamix
10 ай бұрын
@@buyanbatbold7522 unfortunately no flash tuning. I only map the cars physically with me. However Ecutek software can access that ecu and map a lot of the parameters. But and it's a big but, the ecus are prone to dying whilst flashing so always have a get you home spare ecu available. Where are you based?

@@racedynamix I’m going to start buying bits for mine soon before I come and see you for a map I might have a few questions on part recommendations lol, Its so nice as well being able to ask a proper mapper like yourself questions because normally you only really get to chat to them as there putting all the equipment in the car and strapping it to the dyno and when there taking it back off again which doesn’t take long lol
