This is an instant teaching classic. It took me years to learn this knowledge on my own which you have compressed into 15 minutes. In most schools there is no bridge between beginner and intermediate. Adult students in intermediate are expected to know all the moves and combine them at fairly high speed, i.e., actual dancing. This is presumably from their previous ballet career as young dancers which not everyone was. Without the core knowledge of how to turn and respond to the call it is impossible to do much of anything on the open floor. Very good explanation of important knowledge!

Wonderful, I'm so glad to hear that this was helpful! You're right that it's actually so hard as an adult dancer to put all these pieces together, especially with how open classes are different week to week and don't always follow a specific plan! And then combine that with, as you put it, the lack of a "bridge" to intermediate classes. It's a lot to put together! But I'm so glad to be able to help. Happy dancing! :)

Omg this is the best tutorial, thank you so much. I get so confused with left and right and the hand positions but this was so helpful.

Very helpful indeed! But .. I wonder .. would it be possible to add some text at the bottom of the screen that, for each bit, clearly states which you are talking about at any given moment? By the time there is a lot of inside and outside and left and right, I’ve lost track of which of en dehors/en dedans we were talking about, even though I thought I mostly had it when we started :-).
