Maven, you may no longer work for the company, but you really reeled me back into the WWE, I'm a 33 year old guy who stopped watching WWE during the Daniel Bryan era (not bashing Bryan, I've watched clips of him, you can see why he was a fan favourite, was just the easiest way to explain how long I've not been up to date) your channel is truly incredible in my eyes, I don't think you'll ever truly see it from our (the viewers) perspective just how insightful and interesting it is to watch your videos as a WWE fan, I've been watching WWE again for the past couple months and thoroughly enjoyed Wrestlemania, but i just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to talk to us about your experiences, I've always appreciated the WWE for what it is and I truly believe I have even more appreciation for it after watching your videos, I started off this comment by saying you may no longer work for the company anymore, but my god, I think I can't be the only former fan that's become a born again fan thanks to you! I remember I went to 2004 Backlash. I was in the lower bowl, probably 200 feet from the Arena, and hearing people take chops, I winced because you could hear the slaps clear as day over the crowd. That live event gave me an appreciation of the athleticism that every wrestler needed to have, and that even though it was scripted, and rehearsed, the level of punishment they put their bodies through was impressive. That, and Randy Orton taking a body slam into thumb tacks, that was one hell of a show.

Another great video. It's wonderful hearing these stories and takes, especially with how open and candid Maven is, from someone who spent time in the WWE system. Will 100% agree that chops by their very nature are painful, and also agree 100% with the DDT and the clothesline summations. Whenever I gave a DDT, my opponent controlled how they would take the bump (be it perfectly flat, on their elbows, rolling through, etc) as my job was simply to fall back and make it look like I held their head all the way.

I appreciate how you really show us just how professional these guys are at what they do. It’s why they say “don’t try this at home”. You perfectly explain just why these guys are great t what they do, and these accidents are rare. A couple moves I’m surprised aren’t on the list are Finn Balor’s Coup De Gras, and the Cradle Piledriver. The Coup De Gras looks painful, even knowing how the guy taking the move is prepared for it. If I’m not mistaken, I though I heard someone say that Shinskue Nakamaura said it was one of the most painful moves even when done correctly. The Cradle Piledriver in particular I mention because you come down on your head onto the floor. I don’t think it’s like a normal Piledriver where you can land between the knees, and the way they hold you makes it look especially painful.

One of my favourite chops was Big Show against a heel Alberto del Rio with Charles Robinson as the referee. Show pinned del Rio in the corner and held him in there with his hand under his chin. Then comes the finger to the lips- "SHHH"- followed by this gold-almighty slap to del Rio's chest. What added to the theatre was Li'l Naitch selling it as though he took it. Del Rio had what we call "GT Stripes" for the rest of the match- and probably half of the rest of the night! A slap is a stinging pain, but the chest to the buckle or getting slapped on our back is a deep throbbing pain. Thanks again for another great video, Maven.

Maven wasn’t a wrestler when I watched intently as a kid and he was on his way out when I got back into it. But his candor and well-spoken explanations of the business make him one of my top 10 people in the business.

iirc the story behind the inverted alabama slam to the head was that when they practiced it and he was run through how to take it, they did it at half speed. Because Drew had a harder time getting him up into the move at half speed, he thought "Oh I need to help him with the move" so he threw his weight forward. Of course at full speed physics and momentum wind up doing more heavy lifting, so the extra help over-rotated him onto his head.

Also, 20 minute video! Awesome! I know it's probably hard to come up with longer videos, but I appreciate it, and you. Thanks Maven!

I learn more from a single Maven video than I did from years of watching wrestling. Love this channel!

I just want to take a moment to say I appreciate how you didn’t take opportunities to act high and mighty or be incredibly harsh to Mr. Lamia when he had information incorrect. Very classy.

If you look at the Bret bump, there was no turnbuckle pad, that had to hurt, the ropes going around his arms but that metal had no pad.

Apparently Riddick Moss and Drew McIntyre did practice the Alabama Slam, but when they were running through it Drew rotated slower, and Riddick assumed that Drew needed more assistance to get the rotation for the move. (This is according to Riddick's interview with CVV)

Love you Maven. I was a fan. I've been watching wrestling since Wrestlemania 3 and really fell in love with it. My favorite wrestler was Ultimate Warrior and tag team was Demolition. I stopped watching around 2010. I lost my love for it and don't really know why. I'm glad I found your channel. Again, big fan bro. Thanks for shedding some light on the business.

There is a reason that basically no other wrestlers have adopted Bret's chest-first turnbuckle slam. And to think that he used to do it in every other match... Truly the best there ever will be.

I have a buddy that used to wrestle in a local indie. I asked him how you keep a chair shot from hurting. His answer was you don't. They just hurt.

While I've never had it done to me by a well-known wrestler, I once got to spend a few minutes with a wrestler from VCW, a local promotion here in Virginia. I asked him what's the safest move he could demonstrate on a regular civilian like me and he decided to show me how a chop feels. He instructed me beforehand that all I had to do as the receiver of the move was simply to relax and that this would really only hurt if I were to tense up. So I stood there good and loose and he proceeded to give me an overhand chop to the chest. While it smarted a little, it actually didn't hurt. It knocked the air out of my lungs but I immediately regained that on my next inhalation. I did feel the hard shock of the impact and it still made a sharp smacking sound even though I was wearing a shirt but it otherwise felt perfectly fine with no lasting pain. If that's the worst properly-performed move a wrestler can take, then I'm in the wrong line of work.

You’re still one of my favourite WWF/E moments ever. When you eliminated undertaker at the rumble and he that proceeded to kick you up and down the arena and the iconic popcorn vendor moment

I like how both of the example clips you used for indie ring construction were Kevin Owens/Steen matches. I don't know if that was intentional but it was funny
