Thank you for making this great video. I was able to repair my Whirlpool dryer after watching this. My heating element had a break in it along the spiral section that was hard to see at first glance. Thanks again!

How do you take the electrical connections apart? There was one on the top and one on the bottom. Do you force them apart, or is there some trick to it? Do you mash something in, or pull something out to release the electrical connection? Thank you

what Dr. Repair didn't tell you is that he broke all the clips that hold the teardrop trim when he removed it. in the end of the video he puts brand new trim with clips back. so make sure you order a replacement trim or have a glue gun ready if you plan to do the same trick.
@Reddgonald
Жыл бұрын
What he didn’t tell you is that you never needed to remove that trim. You can replace the heating element from the front access panel. You also shouldn’t be playing around with checking the voltage on an energized 240 V dryer. There should be a paper inside the access panel of your dryer that explains to check the circuits with the electric off.

I saw this and tried but the top 1/2 of the element cage had a part on the top back that tucks up under the rear so I didn’t think I could. After taking all the steps in the video I see know that that flange that sticks up is actually a clip that would have come loose with the entire element cage if I had pulled hard or slid a butter knife to release the clip.

Why in the world are you telling people to start poking around at the electrical components of a dryer while it is still hooked up to electric? First rule of electrical repairs is turn off the breaker! The instructions that come with the dryer tell you how to test with it turned off. Also, you don’t need to take the whole dryer apart to replace the element. You can replace it from that front access panel.

Personally, I'd leave the entire machine together and do this all from the back. Or just unplug the terminals on the heater assy. and remove it out the front. No ned to remove 3/4 of the machine and break all the plastic clips to do this.

A little after 4 years of being published this video is still delivering great knowledge. Without this video especially the great diagnostics commentary I would have misdiagnosed my issue as being fuse related. Turned out the heating element was shorted. Same typical symptoms e.g. everything but the heat worked. The recommendation to check for 240v at the element leads in order to rule out a host of other potential issues was gold. Thank you! A note regarding the clip breakage. In my experience it wasn't the clips that would break. It was the plastic tabbed attachment points. Looks like the factory does a spot melt of the tabs to affix the clips. 5 of mine detached from the tabs. Enough of the tabs remained to position the clips. I used some strips of Gorilla duck tape to hold them in place. Seems to work just fine. Again - thank you!

In regards to the teardrop trim - at 2:55 the technician states "you're going to break off some tabs when you remove this - it always happens. He (just like when I did this at home) has every tab still in the slots. Then at 12:55 the tabs for the teardrop trim "disappear". He never shows how to reseat it. It looks like at 15:55 he just hangs the trim back on with no tabs at all. Anyone have some advice on how to reattach this trim?
@Appliancevideo

JD He tells you at 15:59 to snap the teardrop back into place. They are all snap tabs, unless you bust a few taking off the cover. Please help us provide more videos to our site by posting ApplianceVideo.com on your KZitem, Facebook or Twitter account or add us to your circles. If you are in need of any parts please support our parts department on line at savemoreonparts.com/ or call 1-800-830-5465 7-days a week until 11pm Eastern time. Thanks again your support. JDHogfan Of the eight (8) used to secure the teardrop - 7 broke. I used 5-minute epoxy to set them back on the cowl. The way the piece is designed - it's going to break every single time. - Alf

I used a two part epoxy on my two broken clips. They are now much stronger than the remaining clips. It is a very poor method of attachment by the factory. They use very small tabs and just melt the plastic with a shouldering iron, to try and hold them in place
