Grant's has been one of my rail scotches at my house for a while along with Teacher's. Both are very pleasant drams at a bargain price. Thanks to you, Ralfy, I have also added Vat 69 Gold to that list. I am amazed at how enjoyable the bottom shelf can be!

I just got myself a bottle of Grant's Triple Wood. The nose was as expected for a blend like this but the palate...blew me away. I prefer this over the more expensive Glen Moray Elgin Classic Peated Scotch that I had yesterday. For it's price point, this whisky is good value for money.

Story time: I watched this review when I was in China and in desperate need of a good whisky. They did not have much variety and I looked up reviews for everything they had. After watching this, I immediately bought the bottle and subscribed to this lovely channel. Thanks Ralfy! You helped get me through what could have been a rough time! :D

Thank you so much Ralfy!!! I am at a stage in my life where I am on a tight budget, but I also have a taste for finer things. Your videos have really saved my butt. My first dram of Grant's I tried straight with no water, it left an after taste that I wasn't pleased with, I tried my second Dram with half a teaspoon of water, perfection!!! I now have my go to for a cheap buzz scotch... another note, I loved your review on the Canadian Club 6yo, I loved trying it and wouldn't have if not for you!

I was leaving town for my family reunion, remembered they drive me crazy, and decided to pick up something to wind down the evenings after a long day of dealing with nutcases. I picked up a bottle on the way out of town, and when I got to the hotel I had a glass. Even in the plastic hotel cups it tasted fantastic. Not as complex as some of my good Irish stuff, but smooth and full bodied. What a great value! Thanks for turning me on to it.

Just about halfway through my bottle of this, I bought it about 2 months ago, I have been really enjoying it, I think I might have a couple drams of this tonight, maybe more than a couple, it's very enjoyable for someone who doesn't have a lot of time to spend having a good drink of whisky. It's a treat for me :) I enjoy it very much.

Nice review Ralfy ! After watching your review I went out to buy a bottle which was readily available in our government owned liquor chains in Canada. The first thing that hits me after a nosing is De Kuyper Hollander Gin, funny no one has mention this after reading many online reviews on Grant's FR. Jim Murray of the Whiskey Bible fame give this a 94 and says it is a “A stunner of a whisky” !

Just picked up a 1L bottle of this whisky from my local Sainsbury's. Grant's Family Reserve has been renamed as 'Triple Wood', but it's the same whisky. Can't say I'm all that impressed. For the price I paid, it is acceptable. It starts off well, but often has a lingering, astringent after taste that I find non-too-pleasant. For cheap blends that are consistently smooth all the way down and full of flavour, and based off my limited drinking experience of blends, then I'd recommend 'Highland Black 8 Years' from Aldi, 'Queen Margot 8 Years' from Lidl, and 'Whyte and Mackay' from wherever is cheapest and nearest at the time, with the first two being the best in my opinion, but the 'Whyte and Mackay' is still a solid cheap blend. Edit: Yeah, this isn't terrible by no means. It definitely has its pleasant aspects, just marred slightly by the 'motor oil' effect, which I don't always get from it. Meh, maybe it'll grow on me?!

Hey Ralfy, I thought I'd share some trivia which you probably already knew but Grants was the official whisky of the Gordon Highlanders Regiment which sadly was stood down in 1994 to form the Highlanders which again was amalgamated into the super regiment a few years back :(. The inscription of HOLD FAST which is featured on the crest of the bottle is from the Gordon Highlanders Regiment. Although the Regiment no longer technically exists the brand of Grants Whisky still carries their motto.

I bought this as my first bottle of scotch and I like it. It is easy to drink and goes good with ginger ale. I am on a second bottle. The other bottle I purchased after watching review 277 is the Highland Park 12 year old. A little challenging at first as a first time Scotch drinker, but it blossoms very nicely with a little water. As I get to the end of the HP, I am going to give Old Pulteny 12 yr old. Then when the Grant's is low, I am going to splurge on the Buchanan's Deluxe Blended Scotch.

Interesting. And I agree a hundred percent with this review, which I find reassuring because it means that my whisky taste buds are not completely bonkers. Grant's does make a refreshing change from the rest, which is just as well seeing as I stocked up on the ale cask when it was going for only £9 a bottle for a couple of days at a leading supermarket not too many weeks ago! (Nothing like a recession for sending you back to blended Scotches!)

Been looking for a scotch with some spicy notes that will blend well with autumn deserts & holiday after-dinner cigars. As we head into these last months of the year (2019) I think a change from a peaty drink is in order. I recently enjoyed a couple of glasses of Carlyle, a budget whisky for under $20 U.S. It also has notes of baking spice with a well-rounded palette I found easy & enjoyable. But perhaps I'd like a scotch that contains not only spicy notes but also retains some smoke or peat in the background. Once I tried an islay I became a fan it's hard to turn away but I'm thinking the cooler months allow for a change of pace. If anyone else has a suggestion I'd be very appreciative.

It's one of my favorite cheap NAS blend on the market, #1 in my personal taste rank (NAS Blend Category). It gets even better with a teaspoon of water and you can get a nice taste, very nice flavours on it, ice just ruins it. I tell ya, it's not a very popular brand around here in Brazil, not every supermarket has it because it's not a fast selling whisky like JW and you can often find it on discount bundled with a tumbler glass or an ice bucket, people around here love Red Label.

Can you recommend a scotch as far removed from beer as possible, or will I have to give up on scotch and settle for bourbon?

really good introduction to whisky drinking imho. I've never been able to stomach peaty malts and absolutely loathe glenfiddich. this however has all the qualities you need to get people to drink it: its cohesive as you say, has a strong kick but its sweet and grainy on the tongue. didnt get prunes but got toffee. over ice it really grows vs neat. its very very drinkable and good way to get people in to whisky. I found I started to pick out more flavours as I got used to it. gateway dram!

Hi Ralfy. just a heads up. regarding GFR it is a very inexpensive blend ($16) not sure if you've sampled it lately but it has slipped over the past 2yrs. Highl E150 count...almost an electric orange & very sweet. So simple in its form w/an uneventful development. this chappie I'm afraid has fallen into the very lowww 80's.(that's being kind) ...but not to fear maltmates, GFR can be rescued w/just 1part Ardbeg10. Hallo Ralfy. Thank you for this review. I bought a bottle of this Scotch, but when I brought it home to my surprise I discovered that I have a "TRIPLE WOOD" version, which is explained as being matured in three different types of wood. But does this actually mean that during the mature process the whiskey is actually poured from one cask to a different one three times? I always thought that whiskey should stay in one cask during the whole mature period...

When grading the whisky, do you take into account the price Ralfy? In other words, if you give this one 85/100 and a much more expensive whisky gets 82/100, does this mean Grant's tastes better? Or is it more value for money? In Belgium this Grant's costs 12.50 €

***** Indeed they do. There's the duties & taxes, but also some whiskies are positioned at a different price setting in certain countries.
