I love seeing kids that know what they're doing when it comes to steam. You can teach a squirrel to run a diesel locomotive, but we of the steam breed is a well educated bunch. We have to be, you're sitting on a hot pressure vessel that can and will blow you apart if you don't give her what she wants. No wonder we refer to them as "she" and "her!" ***(DON'T TELL MY WIFE I SAID THAT! XD)***

In Spanish we use gender for all nouns and a locomotive is certainly a girl. We say 'La locomotora' where 'La' is the female article for "the"

This is a very nice site and operation for being on the property of one family. I hope some arrangements have been made in wills for its continued existence. There was a very nice family owned operation in Northern Illinois just south of the Wisconsin state line and when the property owner died the railroad died also.

I hope to get myself a live steam locomotive after I get out of High School. Hoping to get something that's medium-sized, easy to run and maintain, and pulls at least respectably well. Any ideas? I'm not very handy and I don't have that much money so building one myself from scratch or a kit unfortunately isn't an option.
@Qkumber

depending on what gauge youre looking to model in, there is a 5 inch gauge Australian design called a 'Blowfly'. Its a simple yet powerful tank engine, not too big or expensive (only about 4 grand in material costs if you buy all the parts off the shelf) yet still powerful enough to pull over a ton behind it. I have seen them scaled up for 7 1/4 inch track, depends what gauge you have access to.
@harryrobinson2901

It’s always better to build a smaller engine in a larger gauge, than a bigger engine in a smaller gauge. What you build is up to you, but if you are a beginner I’d recommend building something without internal valve gear.

+davidgabriel211 These locomotives are one off, custom builds which are extremely expensive. There is not an online store where they can just be ordered. Contracting out a similar locomotive to the one in this video would probably run upward of $25,000-$30,000 to have a professional machinist build the engine ready to run with a lead time of at least a full year (most likely longer).

+Bonnie Bunny A HUGE (private) camping ground / business estate and amusement park With it's own little town-like setting, c/with streets etc. Near REED LAKE, White Creek, West of Cedar Springs Airport of I-131. ie: Aspen Ave, White Creek, Michigan And all it took was a little research, and ten minute (virtual walk-a-round) "looksee" Done via Google Maps, (& their satellite overviews / street views), to find it. As I am half a world away from there, (in the southern hemisphere), in New Zealand. I am wondering why no-one ELSE could easily find it ? After all, it's NOT difficult to access GOOGLE MAPS. www.google.co.nz/maps/place/Aspen+St+NE,+Cedar+Springs,+MI+49319,+USA/@43.2530717,-85.5783852,655m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x8818e2cf4e5120d3:0x88465806edb562db
