in 1918 sinn fein won the majority of seat in the irish general election, they refused to take their seats in the british parliament, instead creating the First Dáil, and promptly declared independence, the british cancelled the result, so in a true democracy the majority of parliamentarians decide on issues, so by dismissing the will of the majority of people, the british ensured decades of discontent, and war,

great song...wonderful version. they have changed the words slightly from the original to make it more modern i suppose and i believe that the sinn fein that the song refers to is the old sinn fein of 1918. however great version 5*

@donlemc I know you wrote this comment a while ago but info please, do the Brollies still represent Sinn Fein now, they seem to be such a nice pair, and Anne's voice is so lovely !

@ynotbreasonable Not so. Ireland was politically separated in the early 20th Century when Catholics and Protestants divided into seperate camps, so I think that is what this song is saying, It is not rubbish so keep your insults to yourself !

@ynotbreasonable Your facts may be correct, I would have to look them up, but don't call this song and its content Republican rubbish, as that makes you a bigot. By the way, I ate an orange today and it was sweet, not from your neck of the woods of course !
