Well considering that in the workplace we are told that our NATURAL hair is unprofessional and since the beginning of time we have been forced to emulate white euro standards of beauty or where head wraps, ORRRR shave our heads out of respect as systematic programming for white supremacy, NO it's NOT appropriate for Black women to straighten our hair or even dye it blonde! What I don't get about the dred-lock issue is that, while yes it's mostly associated with African cultures, it's been a common practice in MANY cultures over the centuries. It's a naturally occurring style for pretty much any hair type that's left un-brushed for a long enough period of time. I mean, Ancient Vikings had dred-lock/ matted types of hair styles. I'm just confused as to why it's being considered "culturally appropriated" when it's been part of many cultures for centuries.

In my opinion, culture is an identity as it is basically a human's way of navigating life. Culture influences every person's every day actions. But I do think that people are misunderstanding what cultural appropriation is. In my opinion culture is something that should be shared as it gives insight on another person's lived experience. To not share culture is to stop understanding of one another, which certainly won't help with any problems.

“Historians have uncovered Roman accounts stating that the Celts wore their hair “like snakes” and that several Germanic tribes and Vikings were known to wear dreadlocks.”
K- potato dreadlocks are *as far as I can tell* somewhat of a recent African thing and before were used by Northern Europeans far longer than Africans. However I can not confirm this
@pandaprince7677
6 жыл бұрын
Even historians would have a hard time figuring this out as some cultures had no writing systems ei. no way of keeping written history whereas others did. It gets tricky because many African civilizations did not have written history of any kind. (This is also commonly seen as the case with many indigenous natives in many lands prior to being conquered in general.) So there's no way of saying this definitively, but its certainly plausible. The point still stand that the girl was in the wrong and dreadlocks are in no way anywhere near exclusive to one culture or race.

CAN YOU BELIEVE- fast foward to now that they believe they are the only ppl who have curly hair and they attempt to police curly hair - they believe bonnets are their culture yet the word bonnet in and of its self is a French word ! Go figure ! I feel the black community in America by a large majority are genetically narcissist its so wild how they think - and truly give themselves way too talk of a pedestal to stand upon - they tend to concern themselves with dumb crap like " not like us " like no other race can dance or do things like them .. yet they have the highest rate of illiteracy in America- They are the largest consumers of goods and services they eat out ALoT and by merchandise at a much greater amount than other people- that's why they never see a return on their money they waste it all to appear as if they have wealth they chase brands to feel good about themselves- They don't buy homes - their kids fail at school but at home they have the newest gaming system ! I'm so sick of their narcissism and antiwhiteism and something needs to be done about it - There should be major consequences for their hate speeches they give online about white ppl - or the violence they do by proxy by calling for violence against white ppl - And white pll should stop buying their music too - that's what earns them alot of money and status in America and its also a great great contribution to the modern failure of American society- RAP music and stripper culture - hookup culture all glorified via rap - that's their culture and so many whites have bought their music and been Influenced so so much by it in the past 20 years its mindblowing divorce rates have trippled as a result - fatherless homes as a result- moms with children who have all different fathers this crap is bursting out of their community and into other community and its crumbling America- I got newsflash for every antiwhite out there though ! ❤❤❤❤❤❤ WITHOUT WESTERN KIND ❤❤❤❤ THERE IS NO WESTERN CIVILIZATION THAT THEY ALL LOVE SOO WELL ❤ AND WE ARENT GOING ANYWHERE AS A MATTER OF FACT A TREND IS STARTING AMONG OUR BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE THAT ONCE WAS THE NORM MORE OF OUR YOUNG ADULTS ARE SEING THE VALUE OF A MARRIAGE A STAY AT HOME MOM AND LOTS OF LITTLE WHITE BABIES BEING BORN ITS not happening at a rate I wish it would happen but atleast white ppl are going back to their norms of nuclear family and mom raises the kids while daddy earns the money

Not the reason why this country is divided, but I see your point. In my opinion, cultural appropriation isn’t about segregation. It’s about being proud of your own culture, and where you’re from and keeping it to those people so that their holidays and customs aren’t thrown out there as “OH LETS DRINK TO THIS” like what literally everyone does for Cinco De Mayo for example . The day Mexicans celebrate as a victory over the French is now celebrated everywhere by people who aren’t Mexican drinking cheap beer and fucking discounts at restaurants. I’m not sure if I explained it right, and I’m not saying what I’m saying is correct, I’m just giving you another perspective. Basically people should celebrate their own culture and be proud of who they are, not what they aren’t.

If anything it’s a compliment that someone likes some characteristic of your culture so much that they want to mimic it somehow. Plus, can you imagine how boring the world would be without Mexican food?? I wouldn’t want to live in that world man 😳

"You can't wear that because it's my culture" oh as far we understand dreadlocks has been around for thousands of years since ancient Greece, India and Egypt, way before it was even a part of the so called "black culture", if anything she is the one claiming/appropriating something that's not hers. Rastafarians coined the term "dreadlocks", some people wear it for cultural reasons such as the Rastafari culture, some wear it for religious reasons (Shiva followers). So to conclude, the black girl is simply wrong and should have left the guy alone.

Bro I use to be like you with this everyone is equal and want a fair society. But unfortunately the world will never be like that. You have to look after your people’s. Every other race protects their own, apart from the black community. A lot of black people don’t even support black businesses. While if you look at every other community, they all support themselves. In London, I know Turkish people who get their hair cuts by Turks, buy their coffee and breakfast in Turkish cafe, and buy their shopping in Turkish shops. So when u think of it, the guy is bopping around with his Rasta haircut that is well known for its Rastafarian religious origins, and then not dealing with all the stuff that sister has to deal with. Why are white guys not walking around with turbins on their heads, do you think the Indian community would let that happen? I get that we want everyone to be equal, but it don’t work like that unfortunately. If two people going for job, one black, one white. The white person more likely to get the job. The majority of white people aren’t going to merge together and say we do nit want this advantage. They will pretend it’s not occurring while walking around with dreadlocks, saying we all in this together.

@@CalGotKicks Remember what I said about white person at job interview having advantage over black people in general,, and lot of white people won’t wanna admit there is disadvantage towards black people so that white people can keep the Advantage. Well Daniel druff (comment above) is example of one of those racists people who doesn’t want black people to unite and support their own businesses. He is trying to disregard what I said about black community supporting their own communities businesses by saying that huge corporations are advertising that they are promoting black businesses. Sounds like is trying to deter us by saying u don’t need to unite as uber eats have something on their page about black business where they have their own section. If they really wanted to support black businesses on uber eats they would not need to mention it’s black business, and just put it at the top restaurants at the top of the search. But it’s a pr trick. Also this racist is making covert racist comments implying black people are victims. This is the type of person who will avoid supporting black businesses in general. Hence why I’m saying black peoples need to support their own.

She was wearing western clothes and speaking English, which is a western language. Since she is of African descent, she should be dressing and talking like an African, right? As a white, western man I am offended at her appropriation of MY culture. NOT! "Cultural Appropriation" is a bunch of nonsense. Should we force all Asians to only wear Asian clothes? Should we force all Mexicans to only eat Mexican food? Should we force all Africans to walk around half naked? Of course, not. We live in a time when everyone is being exposed to all cultures. We then accept some parts of other cultures and reject other parts. If a white person wants to listen to rap while he eats Chinese food, then so be it. If an Asian person wants to wear a fedora with his traditional clothes, then let him. If a black man wants to open up an Italian restaurant, then leave him alone.

Did I say that Africans walked around without clothes? Well, some do, but that's not what I said. I said she was wearing WESTERN clothes. Do you assume that western clothes are the only kind of clothes ever worn all throughout history? That would make you more ignorant than what you accuse WHITE PEOPLE in general of being. Also, you speak of slavery and colonization as if you personally are a victim of it. Do you have stripes on your back from the slave master's whip? Were you on the slave ship or auction block? I'm sure at some point my ancestors were oppressed, but that doesn't mean I'm going to be perpetually outraged. As for English, I can tell by your profanity and bad writing that you hate it. That's fine. If you hate English, then stop using it. Learn Swahili for all I care. No one is forcing you to use English. However, if you want people to understand you, then use a language that they understand. If, as a black person, you decide to open an Italian restaurant, then so be it. Open any restaurant you like. I'm not saying only Italians should open Italian restaurants. In fact, I say you should open ANY kind of restaurant you choose. That way you will learn how to think like a capitalist instead of a perpetually offended and racist socialist.

It’s easy to have a docile people at your beck and call when you constantly remind them they contributed NOTHING because they are NOTHING. Amazing how all of these attempts to devalue black existence always loop back towards returning black people to their previous “peculiar” condition. It underlines the unfathomable sickness of “whiteness” and white supremacy

***** Maybe there are Black Italian restaurants, but I have never seen none. I’ve removed myself from a lot of the cultural appropriation debates because as a person of colour, it is fucking exhausting trying to have your feelings and pain constantly invalidated by whites. However, I’ve been hearing way too much “well, Black people wear business suits. That’s cultural appropriation.” Or, “well, people of colour speak English.” Or, “in African, they are trying to appropriate Western culture. Seriously, arseholes like the OP dont understand why you CANNOT make these comparisons. Why, for example, are people of colour speaking English and wearing “western clothes?”, you may ask. In many cases, COLONIZED countries were forced to adopt the culture of the colonizer while their own culture was violently removed. Residential schools, for example, forced African children to speak European languages, adopt christianity, and were forced to wear European clothes and adopt a European culture. Therefore, it is important to understand the history of colonialism and to understand that what you see as a parallel act of “cultural appropriation,” is really the product of colonialism. To equate those things is to deny the historical and continued violence produced by colonialism, and it is also a huge reflection of privilege. Forced assimilation does not equal the appropriation and the commodification of another person’s culture. These are arguments these arseholes dont understand,.

"Where is Egypt?" See this is what I have a problem with. Simply because Egypt is on the continent of Africa does not make it your culture. You don't get to claim an entire continents worth of culture simply because they have a similar appearance to you. I'm white but I don't claim Russian culture as my own because I'm not at all Russian. Indians don't claim Japanese culture simply because they're both on the Asian continent. The idea of a collective black culture that all black people share in simply because they're black makes no sense. That's not how culture works.
