Awesome work Dustin, really enjoy the approach with speedlights, makes product photography more reachable to the hobbyist and still get professional results, I learn a lot from you. Your speed of delivery when taking the photos and explanation is perfect. If you moved the video around the setup more though it would be even more perfect :-) Please show more behind the scenes? and try Lee 216 paper rather than cotton diffusion? If you did a playlist or even a subscription site to slow down your photoshop session that would be amazing! Thank you! Just tossed you a tip on PayPal.

THANK YOU Matthew! I think a slowed down post-production session is a really good idea, I will do something like that in the foreseeable future! I recently upgraded from the nylon diffusion to savage translum plastic which is a bit pricey but very milky diffusion. Always really appreciate nuanced comments about our production, so thank-you again very much. Loved the example you sent me on flickr, super sharp detail which is the crux of the tutorial using brief flash durations at lower powers, did you use 1/128 - 1/32? Looks great! Feel free to send future shots over to hi@workphlo.ca, I'd love to see. ✌️

Hey Sam thanks. I actually had it custom made as I live in Canada and couldn't find much! It is really useful for convenience, though the same lighting principles will apply if you were to bridge a piece of glass over 2 tables.

Hi David, I actually made this custom to set clear plexiglas on -- it's a pretty simple design with a football field-goal style shape. It required bending metal pipe, wish I could link to where they are for-sale. I am seriously considering a workphlo shop as a few people have inquired. Best of luck! Resting normal clear acrylic between two tables will do the same thing, albeit less conveniently.

baby wall plate is what you need @david bailey, its not what he is using but its what 90 percent of people use. the "right " way to shoot this is on black plexi anyways, not clear.

Awesome Videos! I watched them all! :) Could You please tell me which size of a stripbox is best for bottle photography and other small products like cosmetics? Is 90x20 enough or maybe 120x30 ?

My stripbox is 8" x 36" and is wonderful. Smaller like that, is better in my opinion.

Hi, how does that black flag work to make the edge of the bottle sharp? What is its relationship between the light source and bottle? Does it just need to be near the bottle, or does it need to be near the bottle and blocking some of the light? Thanks!
@workphlo
7 жыл бұрын
Achoo Well the edge of the product reflects a spectrum of area behind the bottle. By putting cards near the bottle, the edge reflects the dark crisp tones.
@Sedifet
7 жыл бұрын
workphlo thanks a lot I'll test it. I've been having trouble making a mask in the way you've been highlighting in your videos as the light was bending a little around the bottle a little therefore not giving a very sharp edge, so now I know how it's done!
@workphlo
7 жыл бұрын
Right on! By placing a single stripbox without a diffuser far behind your product you can obtain a similar result -- but definitely use black paper/card for a quick way to remove side-spill! (-:

I now easily do this in photoshop, so all my customer has to do is send me their label in mail and I can create any studio shot now. No need for all this work now and a lot more control in photoshop. Most of my customers also do not prefer the hard light white strip band on the bottle. Just a tip.

Thank you! That shows that it takes time to cover those techniques. People should value the expertise of a photograph. It's ok trying to DIY, but I see that the winegrowers I work with bring cheesy pics of their bottles. How could one aspire to internationalise their exports with such a crap material? Ask the work of a pro! A good marketing is an investment!
