I love this lineup of Whitesnake but no one can play Bad Boys like John Sykes -- he wrote it and recorded it. John just has that powerful "ooomfff" to his tone.

Coverdale asked him in the early 2000s before he put this lineup together but Sykes wanted 50% of the money! His ego is out of control which is why he can’t work with anyone or release anything. Real shame.

Totally agree with Manaloja. I had the pleasure of seeing this lineup up close in 2005 and was completely blown away at their energy and tightness. Aldridge went into a killer drum solo in the middle of "Crying in the Rain" (I believe), at one point throwing away his sticks and pounding on the set with his bare hands! Friggin awesome!

I agree, one of the best. Also, it was not Zakk Wylde that originated that large pinch harmonic bend/squeal, John is the original of that technique that thousands of metal and rock players incorporate in their sound -- and he also plays a Les Paul.

@@inddarbarreto1746 Actually Doug's technique is the most ergonomically correct way of playing there is, he uses the so-called "thumb behind the neck" fretting hand technique where it's placed very low and not wrapped around it 😉 It originates from classical guitarists and feels looser on your hands and your fingers are standing straight onto the strings. Not many people do it, but it's actually how it is 'supposed' to be funnily enough 😜

Nah it definitely started before then. I remember reading an interview with Ian Paice and he said the funniest moment when he was in Whitesnake was when one of Moody/Marsden came up to him just cracking up in the middle of a song because DC acting like Mr Sex Machine and using the mic-stand like it was his extended member, stroking it and what-not, yet the first 10-15 rows were nothing but young guys.

Aldritch and Beach actually play the riffs correctly, something Vandenburg, Vai, Martini, and whoever else haven't been able to do since Sykes. If you watch at some of those other attempts, you'll laugh your ass off. The riff isn't THAT difficult (though yes its a killer riff)

Reb Beach and Doug Aldrich had the best chemistry by a LONG shot. Vai and Vandenberg in the 1988 Donington Show proved that despite both their unique levels of super talent in very different areas of the guitar they could not play in sync with one another whatsoever.
