I was eight then and lived in Cambridge Avenue near the park and five minute’s walk to the Spanish City. It was a wonderful place then to grow up in. Your picture of the rock bathing pool brought back lots of happy memories.

In 1950, I was 4 and every year until the age of 14 I travelled from the Midlands with my Mother to spend two to three weeks during the school summer holidays at my Grandfathers house in Atkinson Road, Benwell. It seemed like most days were then spent at Whitley Bay or Tynemouth on the beaches playing with the local kids on the sand or in the sea, which never seemed to be cold considering that it was the North Sea. My last visits to that area were in 2004 and again in 2014, it was really sad to see the state of the beach at Whitley Bay, Tynemouth beach didn`t seem too badly affected but the general changes in the area came as a bit of a shock.

Good to see Crow's Big Dipper in operation. Old man Crow used to walk the whole of the track each day to check it for safety, even when in his 70s. What a showman. I also remember being almost paroxysmally sick on the Dive Bomber ride. Who ever invented that should have been imprisoned in one for a month.

Your right it was warmer in those day's, you took a boiled egg or a sandwich if you were posh and ran around all day enjoying life, how times have changed and some may say for the better, but i doubt that saying very much. Happy times, Good times and without a shadow of doubt, healthier times.

0:27 I remember as a kid racing in a cub soap box race near that paddling pool. One of the 'cars' crashed into the pool. I think it was the car belonging to the 9th W/Bay. Luckily I was in the 6th W/Bay
