Richard Montes was overwhelmed when he arrived at Whitney High School as a seventh grader. After all, Whitney High is one of the top schools in the country. But after overcoming a traumatic childhood which included the deportation of his father, Richard wanted to compete with the best and the brightest. Congratulations to Richard for winning the ACSA Region 14 Every Student Succeeding award.
“Challenges are just a part of life,” Richard said. “They come and go all the time. But you’re not going to gain anything. You’re not going to grow as a person if you just sit around and complain about them. Cry about them. You have to actually do something about them. You have to try and better your situation.”
