Performances like this one prove how divine Whitney's voice really was. A lot of singers have great voices, but it's a true gift & art to touch people the way Whitney did.

Everyone that knows me knows that I will forever love The Voice. This song is a vocal acrobat of power, vibrato, head and chest notes. When you find a gem like these performances of hers something goes into your soul and all you can do is cry. For example go find a 16 year old Whitney Houston singing Eternal Love. She sounds like she had been singing and recording #1 hits for years. I listen to it at least 10 times a day. Check it out and let me know how amazing it is. And the background singers are not playing no games.

@@diorrboyyyy There’s no video of her singing it live when she was 16. It’s just the recording kzitem.info/news/bejne/tnqt34aoZqZ_oqAsi=IryzLBdLbZJeZdLp She does sing it live but she was around 23 or 24 then. In that audio clip of her singing it live she says she recorded the song when she was 16. Some lamb tried to argue that Whitney was 19 when she recorded it but when I showed him the clip of her saying she sang it when she was 16 he went mute. But this song is one I love and play on a daily basis.

Wow...I'm shocked that this tape has surfaced. I was working for the company that managed this taping (and all of the other AV) for this event - "The President's Dinner" - an annual event thrown in D.C. on the current president's birthday. We only found out it was her a few hours before the event. This song was meant to be performed only once and I'm sure that they managed that all of the tapes were kept under wraps. (I'm guessing the only legit copies are at the Bush Presidential Library.) I'm guessing that one of the production guys had a copy and leaked it. Thanks for posting it.

@@carmellah6180 Wow...that's amazing. If not for this record, this is really something that would either have been locked away in a private archive (i.e., the G.H.W. Bush Library) or it could have been lost to history. Since this was a privately funded event, there was probably no requirement that it be retained by the National Archives. This student may have done a real favor for posterity. Back when this was made, nobody could record video on their phones. The Secret Service had this place so clamped down that no one would have been able to setup their own camera. The only recording in the event was being done by the 3-camera switch that I was a part of...along with this gutsy student!

So glad you reacted to this! This is one of those hidden gem performances that only true Whitney fans know about. She is one of the few artist that are actually better live than in the studio vs someone like Mariah Carey, who is good live, but better in the studio. Whitney really is the "Gold Standard" for female singers. I would like for you to react to whitney singing saving all my love for you live in Japan. It's different than other live versions of the song as I feel this one has more of a jazzy blues feel to it. She also displays a lot of her head voice you love so much in this version. I know you get lots of request and may not get to this one very soon, but at least let me know it's on your list and I will stop bugging you to do it! lol The link for the video is below. You can never ever get tired of this clip...just like you pointed out and what got me the first time I heard it. is when that voice bursts out and cuts through the sub-par recording like a modern-day gleaming Excalibur; it just sounds so transcendent and transformative it is life-giving. Equally, when she just hovers above a note like a beautiful butterfly almost to the point that u think it might go a little sharp and then the sting of this beautiful vocal bumble bee settles with the sweetness of divine honey.. .Whitney was a veritable vocal Mohammed Ali in her singing abilities, with blessed chords that could fell you with one swift, left, growling hook, or sustain a note and encapsulate pretty much any orchestral instrument you care to name such was her innate musicality and musicianship. If you read the original comments accompanying this video, you will see one by a lady who had the very good fortune to be at this event, practically a table away from the stage, and to read her description with her mouth agape at this torrent of incredible sound pouring forth is to be utterly transported back in time and transfixed by what she was WHITnessing...praise be

They say this was her second time (and last time) ever singing this song. The first time was the rehearsal with the students. She was not to be messed with vocally. Two things I've always wanted to point out. 1. Why do ppl keep saying in her prime..... everytime and ever single year of her entire career whitney did something absolutely amazing with her voice! Things she did in her later years she showed or could not do in her younger days.... to me Whitney was always impeccable! 2. Whitneys live was always better than her studio's because live she was always allowed to show her 'OWN' crafts, arrangements and absolutely brilliant artistic vocal abilities..... Where as in studio she was more controlled and mostly told what to do. She was also sure and confident of her talent and live she transcended! Most other artists do better in studio because they are told what to do and developed and directed by a producer's arrangements and guide.... not mostly their own. Whitney was the raw true talent on a league of her own. She was a master!
