It's "rare" because she probably knew she couldn't sing the damn thing live. Instead of sticking with the exceptional studio version, she unfortunately turned the song into a seedy nightclub "conversation piece". I don't know, perhaps she thought the lyric was too introspective to go over well with audiences? Or perhaps she simply talk-sang because her voice was cracked to shit and she wanted to make it through the show and the tour? Maybe both those things? In any case, this is a much better performance than the other video from 1991 here on KZitem.

teppolundgren if you know whitney, she rarely sticks to audio versions, they’re to simple for live concerts and she was a god in lives. Nothing was wrong with the arrangement.

I don’t understand you ppl. Whitney goes out of her way to deliver a new version to a song and makes it interesting and y’all ppl say “she couldn’t sing it live” or some other bs. Y’all are just boring af if y’all want the studio version every damn time. Imo this was waaaaayyy better than the studio
