At 6:10 the lower race on the Campagnolo headset on the Cunningham was drilled out by Charlie to facilitate a Grease Guard grease port, this was before the introduction of the WTB Chris King Grease Guard headsets.

I’ve got an ‘86 Fuso with full Campy SR. Super bike, super fun. For a short time Dave Moulton built frames at/for Madison.

I have a custom bike from Echelon Cycle Works. It was a guy in Pawcatuck, RI that I found on the web in around 2005. He doesn't seem to exist anymore. Anyway, I met him and he measured me up for my custom frame, custom paint. It's built with Campagnolo Centaur components. It's a great bike that I love to ride. Let me know if you want a photo. It's lugged steel, btw.

Andy Gilmour of Tucson, AZ should be at the top of your list. Hundreds of frames built with incredible paint jobs. Hands down the best.

Which hand-built bikes are my favorite? ^Klein. (the top-of-the-line are very, very good). *Buchanan (picks up where Klein left off). *Trecia (quite possibly the ultimate).

Peter Mooney (just retired from building sadly) is a criminal omission. I've had the pleasure of riding a few of his bikes. I'd link pics, but youtube likes to nix those.

And has it really made racing any better or more interesting than it was in the Merckx/Gimondi days?

Too many (including Serotta), but Seven gets cred for still being there and doing an incredible job. Old School? My two faves are 'Frank the Welder' in aluminum and Tom Teesdale in steel.

Just sold my 2003 J.P. Weigle custom steel road bike. Tough decision to sell it but it was hardly ridden. The new owner appreciates it as much as I did. A work of art.
