Who are the Faces in the Dead Marshes?
Dead Marshes. The corpses lie in the swamp, unrotten, seemingly preserved for eternity. You won't hear the calls of birds, and the still air remains undisturbed by the movement of fish in the weedy ponds. It’s taken lives, so many lives.
In today's video we look at Who are the Faces in the Dead Marshes?
The Dead Marshes, a haunting and desolate region in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, are characterized by their eerie and foreboding atmosphere. Located in the eastern part of the Misty Mountains near Mordor, these marshes are shrouded in a perpetual mist that lends an otherworldly quality to the landscape. As depicted in "The Lord of the Rings," the Dead Marshes are a treacherous expanse where the spirits of those who perished in the ancient Battle of Dagorlad are said to linger. The marshes are dotted with flickering lights known as corpse candles, which are said to mark the locations of the fallen. Anyone venturing into the Dead Marshes risks being ensnared by its boggy waters and haunted by the unsettling specters that haunt this forsaken realm, making it a perilous passage for the characters on their journey through Middle-earth.
