After the I. Crusade, the Christians, who established a kingdom in Jerusalem, started to work to be permanent in the region. The county was far from meeting the needs of the period in terms of military power and population. After the establishment of the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem, a significant part of the Christian population who participated in the expedition wanted to return to Europe. The Muslims, who were forcibly removed from the city, had not yet been removed from around Jerusalem. This Crusader population, who insisted on returning to Europe rather than staying in the region, was causing the county to weaken demographically. This is all brought forth the Knights Tempes. The organization was founded with a group of 9 knights under the leadership of Hugh de Payens, with the goal of securing the Holy Land. The lack of resources about him had turned the organization into a structure full of secrets. Still, there were three main sources about the organization. The Chronicle of William of Tyre, the Chronicle of Michael the Syriac and the work of the British Archdeacon Walter Map. All three sources described the establishment of the organization differently. For example, William of Sur said that the founding staff was nine people, while Syriac Michael claimed that there were 30 people. Walter Map, on the other hand, made no mention of the number of founding staff.
