John Webb: Best tunes. First time I've seen/heard a race car with the stereo going.

Seems like he's wasting his time with the music blaring. The music is muted by what he is supposed to listen to (engine, tires, scraping, etc.), and the sounds he should pay attention to (like the rest of the riders do) are muted by the music. What's wrong with listening to a healthy V-8 and gaging your throttle usage by listening to it, the tires, the rocks being kicked about, etc.?

Both of the Gomez bro’s had a great line. But Shannons car is super tough! Also it took some skills to keep that can am together on that trail.

Have to say that Jason Scherer did it best. It might not have been dramatic from a spectator perspective, but from the technical side of the equation doing it without a front locker was mint!! Kudos!!

Shannon and Cody did the best maximizing their vehicles, the brothers took the best/aggressive lines. Pretty cool to see all the different designs, ifs/irs vs straight axel.

What I saw? Solid axles still best in the rocks KM3s & Trail Grapplers both kick ass I have the 39” KM3s on my diesel JT. It has a trailing rear & long arm front on tons and damn near unstoppable in the rocks but the body is too big for this crazy stuff.

It seems to me like you drive an IFS truck much different than a solid axle. With a solid axle I tend to drive for the rear axle to have the best bite, but with the IFS rigs they seem to drive for front axle placement, and have really soft and flexible rear suspensions that follow along. I'm thinking that in a mixed terrain race like KOH IFS is the way to go. Strait up crawling I'm still going to give the nod to solid axles. That being said I really like how far these IFS rigs have come in the past few years. I could see fully independent suspension rigs ruling this race in a few more years. Just need to develop the parts and learn how to drive them.

id like to see a cut down rivian skateboard with rear steering & long travel do this competition. I have a feeling it would kick ass if geared for 40s

I think you're right; if you watch almost every IFS car is lifting tires. Not such a big deal going downhill but trying to go up and that's no grip. But of course that's just for the slow technical stuff. The IFS guys are more than making up for that in the fast parts it seems. As they say, horses for courses.

The only rig shown here with an IRS was the Can Am UTV. In prior years, I've seen a couple of full sized vehicles with fully independent suspension. But it seems they don't fare as well. I see a couple of potential problems with A-arm suspensions. The A-arms start to tuck the wheel inboard quite a bit if there's a lot of extension during travel. Also, the CV joints have a limited angular range. An alternate design that may weigh too much and have too many breakable parts, would be if BOTH the differential floated (like a solid axle), AND the differential had an A-arm suspension attached to it, instead of to the frame. The result would yield tremendous articulation, roll control, spring rate variability, etc.

GREAT FOOTAGE!! I guess the prior years weren't challenging enough?? That's 'cause 'Kings Veto' makes the other ones, like 'Chocolate Thunder' look easy. Other than the UTV, none of the full sized vehicles had an independent rear suspension. A couple did in past years. I hoped that would prove advantageous - apparently not. Webb's music was annoying. Like his competition, he'd perform better listening to the engine, tires, scraping, etc. rather than trying to drown it out
