Good video. We carry saws on dirt bikes to clear and build single track trail. We typically carry 200, 201s on ride days and 260, 261s for work days. You can do a lot with a top handle, just slower . Ive had to double cut lots of 20 to 20 inch logs and even cut notches and get through 40 to 50 inch logs with them.

Hard to keep running? I worked as a Line Clearance Arborist for over 8yrs. Used the 200T every single day. I never once "ever" had a stihl 200T not want to stay running. Do u guys have it in winter mode? We never put ours in winter mode, and they never struggled in the summer and days it was well well below zero praying it wouldn't start. And it did! All my stihl saws were full choke couple pulls a sputter then half choke one pull with brake on. Soon as it started, u pop the brake let it high idle for a few seconds and it would rip until u ran out of gas. Lbs

Great comparison guys! Both look like great saws. Got a Stihl top handle a few year back but rarely use it. Guess I like my 261 to much!😆 I seen a chainsaw injury list once. One of the most injured places on the body was the hands. Couldn’t figure out how that was until I ran a top handle for awhile. Found myself reaching out pulling limbs with my free hand. Nothing ever happened, but I see how it could. Take care!👍🏻

I can tell the Bearded guy has much more experience with.a saw. He definitely gave each saw a lot better chance. Then the other guy, thats why u heard the saws hanging up so much for him. When using the dogs on a larger log. U basically guide it down and pivot as it goes. U let the saw do the work! You are only there to guide and operate the trigger. Just because it has dog's on it. Doesn't mean u can put all ur weight into it. Theres a bit of finesse, that needs to take place. To find that fine balance. That goes for every chainsaw out there, on any type of wood period! The saws talking to you, its on you to understand what its saying/asking from you. Im an ex Line Clearance Arborist. I did the work 8yrs professionally. And i still do a few side jobs here and there!

They are actually very different saws. I own and have run both. The husky is more powerful, cuts faster, and runs a 16 inch bar comfortably with plenty of power to spare. The stihl has always been reliable, but would struggle with a 16 inch bar. I imagine the husky will be reliable as well. For a big top handle, with plenty of power for professional use I would recommend the 540xp mark 3.

I have made quite some trees meet the ground the last few days (doing so with a McCullough CS35) I do think a top handle saw would indeed be nice for the limbs and branches, a top handle is more manoeuvrable so would make it easier but the tree trunks that’s still up to a normal saw to chop up

Good comparison. I am going to be buying another top handle soon. I have an old 192t that I really like but it is becoming too much work to keep it running for the day. Was thinking about a 202tc-m. 16” bar. After watching this I am going to look into the husky. I own many saws. Both breeds. I have never had an issue with a pro model sthil. My 192t is not a pro model and the body is plastic. The 201tc has a metal body. Don’t know about the husky model yet but for me spending this much money on a small saw I prefer the metal body. And you can always change the drive gear to make it cut faster.

Exactly! Any M tronic is worthless. I have about 30 saws and all of the M tronics are crap. I do have a 261 M Tronic that has been good so far. The 661C and 201TC are pure crap in my opinion. I've had so much trouble out of them. Mainly the carbs. I have 4 saws that are broken down right now do to carb issues. Which is bad enough if you can find a Stihl mechanic. Of the 4 Stihl dealers within driving distance of my house, only one will work on them. And he is always several weeks out on even a simple repair. All the other Stihl dealerships even say they don't like working on them and they just want to sell a new one. I've had several saws at a dealer for well over a year and I had to finally go pick it up and just part them out. We professionals need another option for saws. I like Husky but there are no repair shops for Husky in my area either.

Great video concerning the two top handle 40cc pro saws. The Husky is probably faster because it uses a 0.043 gauge chain versus the Stihl 3/8 low-pro chain. That is the one thing that keeps me from buying the Husky is the 0.043 gauge bar, semi-chisel chain, and sprocket that needs a 1/4" file to keep sharp. I'd much prefer the 0.050 low-pro full chisel chain (not the safety chain!) that Stihl uses. Trying to determine what a dealer is going to charge to convert the saw to 3/8 bar, LP chain, and sprocket.
@765Guys

@@765Guys I've run .043 on a pole saw. It doesn't hold up as well as 3/8 LP, can't be sharpened as often as cutters are not nearly as long, and I have not been able to find the chain in full chisel. I am interested in converting the Husky to 3/8LP so it is the same as my Snellerized 201T.

Very good point! Something most novice chainsaw users will over look. After 8yrs of being a Line Clearance Arborist and using Stihl 200T the majority of that time. I'll live and die by my stihl! It's gotten me out of some hairy situations! I know a slash cut is technically forbidden, but my stihl saws were so dependable and reliable that I could comfortably make a slash/spear cut. When cutting brush and small trees above the powerlines, we'd use the slash cut when possible. And I always trusted my stihl to get through without any bogging whatsoever!

Dangerous for ignorant and incompetent people! A lot of tree trimming companies have forbidden them for in tree use as well. Because people one hand them, and don't pay attention to wtf they are doing. It kicks back and cuts them easier because there's only one hand on the saw. If the company hasn't forbidden the Top handle saws, they are strict on one handing the saws! Usually ends in a write up etc etc. But I know Asplundh is one of the biggest tree service companies for utility work. And they don't even purchase them anymore. Which sucks ass! Because their rear handle brothers are just more inconvenient in a tree. I'm an ex line clearance Arborist. 8yrs I did that work year round. It pist me off, having to suffer because of the incompetent arrogant fools. Who ruin it for everyone! These are professional grade saws. No residential/wood cutter should be allowed to have them imo. Because the general public are extremely incompetent when it comes to safety.
