I find him to be the most compelling character for an ending, especially given the DLC. SPOILERS: The Dung Eater seems like he’s just imposing the Old Hornsent Crucible culture over the Erdtree, more so replacing one order for another, albeit through a violent method. Not any substantial change or improvement, only revenge. Fia is more ambiguous, as the Rune of Death was already freed, which would fix the problem of eternal life. Her focus on those who live in death is then questionable, made somewhat concerning given the continued spread of deathroot and its problems. The Age of Fracture is probably one of the worse endings, fixing nothing and continuing a decaying status quo. The Frenzied Flame is the worst by far, the ultimate surrender to despair and nihilism. It decides that the world is lonely and painful, and that you somehow have the authority to decide that no one should exist at all. For a good ending then, it really comes down to Ranni or Goldmask, both who have concerns with higher powers. Ranni seems to be more oriented to a hatred of the imposed fates by Metyr and the Fingers, with Goldmask being concerned over the actions of Gods like Marika, Miquella, and Ranni herself: beings who possess immense power and who can cause immense suffering as a result of their decisions and the consequent revolutions. Ranni’s solution is more obviously humanist, taking the Elden Ring and running away to allow people to make their own choices. It doesn’t overtly fix anything though, leaving problems like the Scarlet Rot and Deathroot to fester and trusting that things will somehow work out in the end. It also doesn’t implement any long term solutions, only one that lasts as long as she manages to survive in the stars. The Crucible Age didn’t last forever, nor did the Erdtree’s, so what happens when she falls? Goldmask takes a look at the bigger picture. How many people died because of Marika’s decisions on who she did or did not like? How many would die because of Miquella or Ranni? He puts a permanent stop to this, removing the ability of these insanely powerful gods to cause mass carnage due to their fickle choices. Ranni vs Goldmask is the age old question of revolution vs reform, and while revolutions might seem more exciting, more often than not they only serve to brutalize and destroy the very people it hopes to help. You ask me who I trust between the man able to communicate with the Greater Will itself when all others were tricked by Metyr or the woman who murdered her brother? I’m going with … all day

Couldn't have put it better myself, people are *WAY* too quick to think removing "emboldened ambition" means folks lose all free will. The idea is creating a system in which fickle human pettiness can't carry devastating metaphysical consequences like it did in Marika's Age. What I love about Ranni and Goldmask's endings is that they're the best, yet come from completely different angles. -Ranni from a "selfish", individualistic desire to reclaim her agency at any cost. It gets expanded into wanting to free humans from the meddling of the Gods. -Goldmask from a "selfless", collectivist desire to create a holistic Order wherein all can find a true place and be equally welcomed, all of which is supported by his profound and deeply personal faith. Ymir's comments about us all being children of the Greater Will is what fully sealed the deal for me. Goldmask is basically a human Two-Fingers who figured out the wifi password.

Not really. Marika, though a Goddess, was just a Numen at the start, so she was as dumb as any other person. Gold order's ending is probably the most pure & righteous ending...for better or worse. Essentially the golden order worships not Marika, but rather her patron...the god of order. This is evident with two finger messengers representing the golden order and three fingers representing the chaos god because together they're meant to be nature itself. The issue is vessels have free will and so can abuse said order for personal vendettas. In other words the god of order wanted more control; which is evident in the selective breeding for emperyeans and marikas confinement to the tree. Gold mask desires to perfect the ring in removing the human element so order can reign pure and true. No more whims of mad kings and Queens just pure righteous authority.
@ringomandingo1015
2 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t say the God of Order wants more control, rather it needs to correct the instability in the world because of its nature. The Fingers probably are just diplomatic and aren’t even necessary for the Grace of Gold to exist. Goldmask was a fundamentalist, part of the GO that believed in the perfection of the GO under the Greater Will. However the increasingly obvious problems within the GO culminating in the shattering created a crises of faith within the fundamentalists. Some, like D, became fanatical and sought to erase anything that exposed the GOs imperfection (such as those who live in death). Others, like Miquella, became disallusioned with the GO and chose to abandon it. Goldmask however arrived at a simple truth. If the GO is perfect, and the current GO is flawed, then the current GO is not the true GO and needs to be corrected. And discovering the link between Radagon and Marika was an epiphany moment for him, leading him to discover the GOs main issues can all be traced back to Marika and her family. So the "ring" (rune) he cultivates is a protective ring that prevents tampering of the elden ring from even gods such as when marika removed the rune of death and gave great runes to her family members. A man who never gave up on the GO, T-posed against the gods themselves, and was proven right in the end, as his perfect order ending is described as a new golden age.

Goldmask always had the 2nd best ending, imo after Ranni. If I had to pick a Mending Rune, I'd prefer Goldmask's ending. That being said, I still think that there should've been a "true ending" where you combine all three of the Mending Runes. There are things about each ending that I think are important. Goldmask makes it impossible to tamper with the Elden Ring further. Fia's Rune reintroduces death to the world, and Dung Eater's... well... his is complicated, but from what I was able to gather, it turns everyone into an Omen, which effectively makes it impossible for the Greater Will to eat their souls upon death.

Golden mask is like a Sage. A bit like Midra. And his face too look a bit like a frenzied flame. I can’t stop thinking about people who wears a sun means something but what ? I can’t be sure … 😢 but look like they know something more about the golden order.

To everyone: The rune of perfect order is THE WORST ENDING POSSIBLE. If the elden ring is mended with it - everyone will be made to be as stoic and immobile as goldmask. Nothing will ever happen ever again, and nothing will ever change - everything will be in perfect order This mending rune gives the worst ending possible in the game

So goldmask basically fixes everything wrong with the golden order right? And now the erdtree's grace reaches everything in the lands between so basically goldmask made everything better for everyone because in that ending everything looks golden and perfect

EVERY single argument against goldmask is from ranni fans, definitive best ending instead of “my child will go on a meandering quest for ME as I seduce him in marriage to destroy the very gods and wander the stars for eternity forevaaaaaa haha!”

He sorta reminds me of Midra

Ok so is that why he looks like that? He’s been persisting in the lands between for so long without absorbing runes that he became like everyone else in the lands between with there accursed immortality? Or did he sneak back in in a way he wasn’t supposed to have.

38:48 Sarah gets caught in a lie, and right here you can see a flash of panic on her face before she makes up a very flimsy excuse, then rug sweeps the whole thing by going "whatever" in a tone that sounds like she's annoyed at the cop for having the audacity to question her version of events. She clearly gets angry when she isn't automatically believed, even though she isn't acting trustworthy at all.
