I like the champion of light theory. It infers that in Nakomi’s first age, she may have failed and tried to seal the Bore with only women which allowed DO to ruin Saidar, then when Nakomi was reborn she wielded the threads of the pattern to seal the Bore. And that age was our past age which is why some people fear witches, but not warlocks.
@r.t.hannah9575

Someone asked Brandon Sanderson if Nakomi was a Wandering Jenn type character inspired by Jewish mythology. He responded “nobodies asked me that before but it’s clever.” And that they were “sniffing around the right tree.” I think she is an agent of the creator or the champion of light as you say and has pattern bending powers made evident by the burning coals and supplies appearing and disappearing. She bends the pattern because she’s granted this power as an agent or because she has manifested the pattern herself in her own age similar to how Rand did while fighting the DO. I think both her and Rand are immortal and will now spend eternity within the pattern “tending to nature” and the pattern itself.
@pieromancer909
5 жыл бұрын
I believe Nakomi is an avatar of the Creator just as Shaidar Haran is an avatar of the DO. I know that it's said in the books that the Creator never, ever interferes with anything in the pattern, but I don't know of RJ ever cementing that in a real life interview. As far as I know, he virtually always just gave "read and find out" as his answer to any questions about the nature of the Creator or the DO. The Creator can't be a part of the pattern or exist within the pattern anymore than I can be a part of the blanket on my bed. If I wanted to truly become "part of the blanket", I'd need to put some of my essence into a thread and weave it into the blanket. The thread wouldn't be me, but it's the closest I could get to actually being part of the fabric. I believe Nakomi is a thread woven into the pattern specifically for the Creator to use to be able to touch or experience the pattern more directly at times. I do not believe anything Nakomi did would count as interfering, either. She simply made Aviendha some food and had a curious conversation with her. She didn't appear to Rand until he'd already finished all of his work. I also think it's important to make a very big distinction between "doesn't interfere with the pattern" and "doesn't pay attention to or take interest in the pattern". As for Shaidar Haran, since the DO can't create anything within the pattern (or presumably without), I believe Shaidar Haran is a pre-existing thread that he's twisted to his purposes. He uses that corrupted thread just as the Creator makes use of the Nakomi thread. Anyway, all of the other theories have always just seemed like a lot of mental gymnastics to me. I believe Occam's razor applies here.

Nakomi being a Champion of Light from another age would imply that Rand is going to live into the other ages as well, but we know he dies so he can be reborn during the Age of Legends. It's possible that he and Nakomi will be able to affect the real world from the world of dreams and so wouldn't have to be immortal for this theory though. I think Nakomi's identity can be summed up a bit easier. Robert Jordan liked to go online and read fan theories about the various mysteries in his books. We also know he drew inspiration from a number of other books - notably The Lord of the Rings. Nakomi was created after Robert Jordan knew that he was going to die, so she is probably nothing more than Tom Bombadil's counterpart in the Wheel of Time - a mystery that will live on and whose identity will never clearly be answered.

I think Nakomi is a Weaver. She is setting up the loom for the next Age Lace. In one of the books, it was said that Manetheren had to fall so that the Dragon could be raised in Emond's Field. Just before Nakomi shows up at Avienda's camp, Avienda is considering that the Aiel must return to the Waste, regain their strengths. Nakomi does a 'bread and fishes', nudges Avienda toward a future where the Aiel participate in the Dragon's Peace. Nakomi is one of the Pattern Makers.

I actually had a thought when reading Egwene's "Last Stand", and then later saw a reddit post that gelled something for me. Spoilers: What if Egwene's Flame of Tar Valon, which was meant to be a perfect counter and balance to Balefire, also acts in some way opposite of Balefire when someone is killed by it? Balefire burns the thread out of the pattern, and then will retroactively "undo" that thread's presence in the world depending on the power of the beam. If the FoTV is the opposite counter, what if it gave some sort of post-death permanence to the person killed? Sort of like an ability to influence the pattern after death? Egwene is friends with Aviendha, has a strong connection and respect for the Aiel. Egwene is sort of Rand's counterpart already...

If Nakomi is an incarnation the Eternal Saidar Champion, in the way that the Dragon is the Eternal Saidin Champion, then that avatar probably would have a similar, mythical beast for a name. My guess is "Unicorn," and here is my argument: In the 90's a brilliant Arthurian fantasy series with a really unique take, written by A.A. Attanosio, began the series with the book "The Dragon and the Unicorn." The opening of the book says something like "There is only one Dragon," and it kind of refers to the devil if I remember correctly. Anyway, given how Jordan was an avid fantasy reader, and clearly used his favorite stories for inspiration, my suspicion is he read these books by Attanosio too. So if there is a lottery for what prophecies about Nakomi in her age might have referred to her as, my vote is "The Unicorn." Incidentally, doesn't it suggest that at least in some rotations of the wheel, Saidar actually gets tainted? An age where of really dangerous, insane witches threatening world stability, and a martyr like figure has to sacrifice herself to cleanse magic? How does that play out? Is that Age just a misogynist, patriarchal magocracy before it's broken? Is there some dominant, military polity with weaponized, male, channeling slaves? Yikers. Fanfic writers enjoy!

A JENN AIEL - Possible but doubtful, they are gone unfortunately. If any still existed then Mr Jordan would have undoubtedly expanded upon this earlier in the books. 3. A PREVIOUS CHAMPION - I just cant see it, why would the pattern need the three ta'veren. Why would a previous champion who would had lived for a minimum of 4000 years allowed the events of WoT to happen. The breaking etc. Would a millennia old champion who could manipulate the pattern its self to alter reality allow the Breaking to happen. I seriously doubt this. THE CREATOR - Or an aspect of this being. Yes, I can see Nakomi being a vessel akin to what Shaidar Haran was for Shaitan. This would fit nicely and give us a suitable counter point to the strange Myrdrall. Yin and Yang, Saidin and Saidar. Nakomi and Haran. It would also fit with Nakomi's style, leading but not telling, being involved without being involved. This is the theory that I think best fits Nakomi.

How about a combination of the theories? Heroes of the Horn remember their past lives while they're in the world of dreams. If at some point in time a Hero learns to change the pattern, then, they'd remember how to do that while they're between lives, at least for a long time. Verin was a reincarnation of the female champion of Light, but because this time around was the Dragon's turn, she only played a background (though still critical) role. She dies, wakes up in the world of dreams again, remembers her past and regains the ability to change the pattern, which she then uses to reach into the real world and make a couple of subtle changes, or perhaps more indirectly pulls Aviendha into a dream to do so (and appears at Shayol Ghul to Rand because the pattern is weak enough to blur the realities, there). The Wise Ones do know how a dreamer can pull someone into their own dream, by the way, Egwene mentions having learned how in an internal monologue at one point.

I recently heard an idea that Nakomi is actually Egwene. This would conceivably be possible because she was consumed by the Flame of Tar Valon weave. This weave is the opposite of bale fire. Since bale fire can retroactively burn people from the pattern, it might be possible that the Flame of Tar Valon could weave someone back into the pattern at some earlier point in time. If that's true then it's possible The M'Hael is alive as well. I like this theory. I have to admit I was a bit bummed that Egwene died. I was kind of hoping she would end up to be the longest reigning amrylin. I forgot how to spell head of the white tower. So it would be cool if that weave aged her and spat her out in an earlier time.

Hey, first of all great content. Really happy to subscribe and learn how others have perceived this series. When hearing the fan theory it just fell in place for me if go by the theory of nakomi pulling aveienda in her dream, it shows she has some control and knowledge of the dream world. Keeping that in mind, and what hawk-wing says to Julian about others being added to the heroes of the horn time to time. May be after she poisoned herself and her arc and sacrifice she became one of the heroes and where do heroes wait !! Hence she pulled Rand in the dream world at the last to tell him he did right. Is it ever explained why the dragon was brought up near 2 other extremely ta’veren people? Are Mat and Perrins souls part of the dragons rebirth every time? It talks a lot of them being a triad and one leg topples, they all fail which made me think they were all necessary for the win. So was it coincidence or is this always the case?
@No-Ink

Despite Rand being the Dragon, he is only one person. For things to happen as they did. More people were needed. Which is why the Pattern set Matt and Perrin to be who they are and what they did over the course of the story lead to two very important points to protect Rand from death during his fight with the Dark One. The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills.

I like the idea that Nakomi's a female champion. You make an excellent point about the series drawing from Yin and Yang, and if the Dragon is always male, then there should be a female counterpart just keep things even.

Idk I always thought that if anyone was the female champion it was Egwene or maybe Nynaeve. Though I always hoped that Nynaeve was one of the heroes. I do agree that there definitely should be a female champion
@Negentropy369
5 жыл бұрын
@@masonmiller5394 The idea is that she is the female champion of ages that the dragon is not spun out. She plays the same role as the dragon during her age(s), so she would never incarnate normally into the same age as the dragon and could therefor not be Egwene or Nynaeve. This would further imply that when we meet her in the story, she is existing in the same state that Rand exists in at the end of the series. Though, thinking about it, while I have no issue at the core with the idea that the Champion of the Light can attain a kind of immortality if they survive and win their fight, if Nakomi has been in that state since her last age, that would make her at the least 2000 years old, as ages 2&3 are both ages of the Dragon. Also, I wonder how they would come to "die" so they can be incarnated again when the pattern is ready for them to be champion again. Like do they just instinctively know that their next life approaches, and lay down and die or something...? Or... I dunno. Sorry I went on a bit of a ramble. Replying to your comment got me thinking more deeply about the theory. I always liked this particular theory, and also the idea that she was a physical embodiment of the creator. Who knows? It's fun to ponder on though, hopefully one day Mr. Sanderson will be able to give us the truth.

@@Negentropy369 ah my mistake. That does make sense if the champion attains immortality through awareness of the dream after defeating the dark one. I meant that as more along the lines of a counterpart to the dragon rather then the one to face down the dark one herself, that's what I get for looking through comments before watching the video. Like the possible world where the dragon and amyrlin rule side by side.

Yeah I think of it as the dark one threatens the world every age So since in the second age no one knows who the dark one is so i think the champion of the light from the first age "won against the dark one" The creator has a female champion and a Male champion yin yang and all that So in the first age the creator sends out a female champion she wins and get power like rand and can manipulate the pattern In the second age the creator sends out its Male champion who we know as lews Theron Lews Theron for all intents and purposes loses his battle against the dark one So his soul continues being recycled until he wins

This actually makes narrative sense. It would give a purpose to the whole Birgitte storyline. The idea that people can be pulled *out* of TAR as well as pulled *into* it. There was no Checkov's Gun moment where Perrin pulled every wolf out of The Wolf Dream for the last battle (unless I missed something huge?? it's been a few years...) and this scary powerful thing was never seen after the Birgitte Incident. It would make sense, if Nakomi is a female Champion, that she would be able to do this at will in the ages where she rests. It would pull that idea full circle, pun intended!

There is one character who upon dying gave herself up and joined in the light. Rand hears that characters voice while fighting the last battle but is unclear wheather it his own thoughts or the character speaks to him beyong death. That character is well versed in the world of dreams, if not for the duties brought upon her would choose the life of an Aiel wise one and due to the nature of her death could become a conduit for the creator or the life itself. And Sanderson gave more homage to her passing than any other death, so it seams fitting to boost her some more.

While it has been several years since I last read any of The Wheel of Time, and I cannot quote specific events in the books atm, I think the idea where Nakomi is a remnant or more precisely a memory of the Jenn Aiel. I think she is an entity bound to the terangrial a watcher who was bound to guide the aiel wise ones into the future after the Caracarn returns. It is also possible she is a Jenn Aiel from the future itself. While it is stated that temporal manipulation is not really possible as the affects of balefire could not be undone and is absolute, the fact remains that balefire itself is a massively destructive form of temporal manipulation ( or more precisely a form of destruction so devastating it have temporal affects). I would also like to point out that the madness suffered by Rand also seemed to be a temporal mind link between him and Lews Therin and not just an overwriting of memories from past lives like Matt had. Unlike Matt who just remembered things Rand had active Communication with Lews Therin. I also believe this is demonstrated in the flashes of Lews Therin's life we are given when he appears to be lost in thought or communicating with someone unseen. I think the "madness" derives from litteraly being in two places at once and not being able to comprehend or separate the two. Another thing I wish to point out is that Rand also had "psychic" or "telepathic" communication with both the Dark One and what I believe was the Creator during certain events in the books. These voices do not fit the character of any of the forsaken and most definitely not Lews Therin. And who besides the Creator or his champion could stand against the Dark One.

I don't think Balefire and timetravel a mutually exclusive tbh... If your in the present and your friend gets taken out by balefire it doesnt matter if you go back to the past to change it as they never existed in the past. I think the only point you could ever see them again would be the exact moment of their removal from the pattern, if at all.

I like the theory that it’s Tigraine, I can’t remember off the top of my head but Tam never said anything about finding Rand next to his dead mother right? Which is odd because if she died giving birth you’d think she’d be right there next to him...ugh I just had an image of a bloody birthing fluid snow angel, yum...moving on, could be she was told what she had to do for the light to prevail and dream walking runs in the family, although I suppose Luc/Islam were given that ability so maybe a stretch, but still like the possibility that she is actually Tigraine.

Nokomi reminded me of a character Tracey Hickman and Margaret Weiss inserted into a number of their novels. I read them decades ago, but in the series about Haplo and the Sartyr, they had this goofy wizard character who would flit in and out now and then. The same character made appearances, I think, In their dragonlance novels. Again, I read these 25yrs ago or so, so I apologize. The character’s name started with a Z and was Zed or Zeb or something. He seemed to represent a Creator like entity who made cameos now and then to push things in the right direction. I felt Nokomi was a nod to this character.

You are on the right track. Just as Rand becomes a "guardian" of sorts for the next age that is starting, Nakomi was the guardian of the previous age, her job is done, now its Rand's turn to nudge the world a bit here and there and hopefully prevent the world from making the same mistake such as 'forgetting' their history and re-open the bore. Nakomi means "Who a my" in the old tongue aka "Who am I". IMO she is a Jenn Aiel as a Google search suggested the Japanese name translation as "菜" is greens. "瑚" is the name of the ritual. "実" is fruit, kindness; or just vegetable seeds? Not exactly sure but since the Jenn Aiel were directly involved with the ritual of the green song at least there is some direction to a connection there.

Perhaps a necro post but what I keep thinking is Nakomi is a servant of the light but from another age yet to come, though many full turns of the wheel have most likely happened. If Jordon would have lived he may have written another series based on the 4th, 5th etc. ages and that's when we would be introduced to Nakomi and other influential beings from those ages. This would be a massive Easter egg that readers of the first series would have jumped on with great satisfaction. That would also explain why he didn't want any info on Nakomi to get out.

I believe Nakomi was supposed to play bigger role or there was supposed to be much more foreshadowing and eastereggs about who she really is but this was all lost because of Jordan´s death. So I would say neither your neither Verin theory is correct. I believe she was some sort of her own person. But we will sadly never know who or what exactly.

I read it again. The crystal ter'angreal in Rhuidean is a computer that programs the Aiel chiefs and Wise Ones using Tel'aran'rhiod. Somehow it connects to the rings ter'angreal in the White Tower and in Rhuidean. Nakomi was either a vision programmed into Aviendha, or a simulation in Tel'aran'rhiod that became visible for Aviendha because the Pattern is weakening near the Last Battle. It isn't clear whether Nakomi was actually influencing Aviendha to try examining the crystal ter'angreal, or rather to think about the future about the Aiel. I presume a computer that programs people wish to influence the events also in the future, after its tasks are accomplished.

There is never, ever in the books even the slightest hint of a female counterpart to The Dragon. Jordan insisted in the companion book that the Soul of the Dragon is always male, if the books themselves weren't clear enough for some. Balance? There's no need, the Dragon isn't really in the Pattern, at the end he clearly stands out, or melts, with it. The Dragon IS the balance (he did hold Saidin, Saidar, and the True Power) (His banner was that of balance, Flame of Tar Valon/Dragon Fang).
