To gauge the popularity of politicians, you really need to look at how many people dislike them as well. YouGov have that data (there's a 33% difference in dislikes between the top two!), but for some reason don't use it in their ranking. So it's not TLDR's fault, but it needs mentioning if you make a longer video on this.

While I am not British, besides some of his foreign policy, he had a pretty decent platform and I don't know why the British hated him so much and kept voting for people who refused to invest in the population. Privatization of utilities, underfunding of public services and tax cuts for the rich have, in my opinion, hurt the British economy. Even though he was somewhat mixed on this issue from what I can tell, Brexit was also economic suicide.
@ChrispyNut

Because the owner classes were threatened by him, so it was constant smearing across the media and very little to debunk the BS from those supposedly "neutral" as well as being attack by the mostly right-of-centre majority in the Labour party. Thus anything remotely uncosted that'd benefit society as a whole was deemed an example of the idiocracy of Corbyn's platform, whilst completely unfunded giveaways to the rich and powerful went completely under the radar. So, the usual Capitalist BS.

He lost due to doing a poor job at handling both internal dissent in his party and media slander. Had he done a better job at communicating the manifesto pledges which the media easily spun as being a mash of random ideas and also stopped flip flopping on the issue of Brexit the defeat may not have been so severe or maybe even a majority. For as bold as he was, he wasn't good at PR.

@@ChrispyNut There's a lot of blame to be put on the Labour Right who sabotaged Corbyn because they want labour to simply be the less racist Tories, and the media held a lot of the keys but arguably Corbyn could've done more like picking a definitive side between the remainers and leavers in the party so the collapse of the red wall wouldn't happen. Do former politicians, who are still very much alive and well and living in the UK today count? The reason I ask, because the guy i have in mind is actually a former MP who still supports his political party but is a Mayor of a Northern English city - he's Andy Burnham the elected Mayor of Manchester. He's very good at making speeches and started quite well when he tried to run for Labour leadership at the time Corbyn got in, but his critical mistake was not sticking to his guns on certain issues. Unfortunately it made him look weak. But he was the MP who pushed for the release of all documents surrounding the Hillsborough Stadium Disaster in 1989, where 97 Liverpool supporters lost their lives and their families were betrayed by South Yorkshire Police. I also gather that he's proved very popular in his new role up in Manchester - not bad for an Everton fan from Wigan.

Remember, Biden didn’t beat Trump because he had low approval. His approval was very good. He beat Trump because of how high his *disapproval* was and Corbyn is no different. Ed Balls will always be my favourite from this list. I grew up in his constituency, and you’d always see him walking around Morley Town Centre chatting with people about local issues. He’d always ask my grandparents, who were in their 50s and 60s at the time, about retirement and their opinions on stuff like care homes and pensions, and he’d ask me and my brothers about school and kids activities in the area whenever we saw him. Compare that with his Tory replacement, who I’ve literally never seen in my life despite working in the town centre for a while in college and always visiting with mates - there’s just no question who was better! Ed genuinely cared about his constituents in a way no other MP I’ve ever experienced. He was one of the good ones, and it’s a damn shame he got voted out based on national politics dominating the scene post 2007, rather than for anything he himself did or anything his direct opposition promised.

Britain is a a very centre right country and has been for a long time Media in Britain is 70-80% right or centre right in their political view points this includes several of the most popular papers including the times, daily Mail, and the sun. It also has a large proportion of 40-60 years olds which are always going to be more conservative and so the papers swing that way this means that a far left man despite his popularity with younger people and many of the unionist older ex miners that suffered under thatcher, how correct he was in his view and how his vision would definitely would have changed britian for the better this was a time of rising nationalism ukip being on the up etc he was always gonna struggle. Combine that with the slander of put on him by the most popular new papers and you turn a pretty decent future into the current shit show we have today under the tories 15 years austerity and nothing to show for it but a lot of the rich being infinitely richer and a list of social and economic problems so long you need a file cabinet to store it. Personal I really like Corbin and his ideas I only disagreed with him on one fundamental point and that was the military. After bing in for 6 years you come to realise the military needs more money not less and a complete overhaul and modernisation project based around British and commonwealth need and not the business interests of Babcock and BAE

This is a silly way to poll the popularity of a politician, and an even sillier way to explain the results. The only thing being polled is how many people hold a positive opinion of the politician, but it doesn't take into account how many people hold a negative opinion of said politician, or have no opinion. This inevitably rewards well-known and polarizing politicians, and disfavours the ones that have less name recognition or who don't stir as many positive/negative emotions about them. Politicians like Starmer, Corbyn, Sunak and Johnson inevitably will get more people to express an opinion because they're better known, but there's a huge disparity between them in how highly regarded they are by the public, and how intensively liked/disliked they are by those who like/dislike them.
@albal156

Starmer isn't far behind Corbyn in that respect as hes disliked by 37% of people. Only gonna take 11% more to get up to where Corbyn is at 48%. Burnham is really popular but isn't as famous. @Scruffed

@@albal156 Not an entirely fair comparison, as Starmer is seen as someone who will soon be PM and is therefore under more scrutiny, while Corbyn is now just a person with opinions that one may or not agree with and that's it, and yet he still has -18 net approval. At the point when Corbyn was Labour leader and stepped down, he had a net approval rating of -60, which is not that far from what Liz Truss had at her lowest point (-70), while Starmer currently has a net approval of -8. Burnham and Khan at least are in office, and have comparable popularity to Starmer (Khan has -6, Burnham has +14), even though they're not quite as well-known and scrutinised as Starmer.
