Ulysses isn’t exactly a precog, he can see the highest probability of future events. Meaning if someone (Hydra Cap) knew about this ability and were to metaphorically stack the deck to make certain events more probable, like framing a woman for an attempted bombing or set up a domino effect that would cause a Hulk-out (which Hydra Cap did), then Ulysses “predictions” would be manipulated. I feel like this doesn't really work though, like think about it; If Ulysses can see the future, and that future doesn't happen, then what he is seeing is a multiverse (or he's just inept and has nothing to do with scrying), in which case the vision is worthless if what he is seeing is THIS verse, then what he sees is guaranteed to happen, because the moment he scried it is the moment the future changed to compensate for his vision, and will play out the events as if nothing has changed. in fact, the future doesn't have to change at all, because it's already been altered from the beginning by the fact that Ulysses will scry it at some point in time
@LumemDH

@@andrecaldas1431well, yeah. That’s future precognition for ya. Some events are more precise that others (eg. an invasion from external forces you never met), but how can you see something that never happened? Honestly, Civil War 2 felt like such a contrived and nonsensical story since there's no need to take such extreme exploitation of Ulyusses's abilities, both Carol and Tony Stark. Carol was wrong for identifying and neutralising possible threats based on different outcomes. Tony was misguided for proclaiming that they shouldn't need to use such a gift and claiming it to be false constantly for some bizarre devotion to "protecting the future". Both sides don't seem to understand the apparent moral nuance and compromise the two can accomplish with such an opportunity to help the world. I mean, the way they handle the Hulk vision is so risky that it was doomed to fail, they could've just had one hero talk to Bruce quietly and treat him respect as a friend and explain to him calmly why they would like to bring him in for questioning and yet they bring an entire army of superheroes at his front doorstep so no wonder he was stressing the hell out. At least during the first Civil War event, it made sense why there was a conflict, given the political and severe ramifications of superhero battles leading to mass casualties.

The best part was Tony Vibe checking the future sight from Ulysses. He makes a fake suitcase bomb and places it somewhere in town. Ulysses goes nuts about the vision. Cpt Marvel Detains Tony and presses him on the bombs' location he doesn't break and holds out until its detonation time. Boom, NOTHING HAPPENS. Confirming Tony's hypothesis that Ulysses saw alternate realities. With his theory proven, he presented his evidence to Captain Marvel that the visions aren't accurate enough to act on. And what does she do? She doubles down and causes more harm and trouble acting on the visions to the point Tony sacrifices himself for Miles by running a 1v1 against Carol Danvers. Leading her into crashing out and beating him into a coma. And demoralizing everyone on her side because something just as bad happened they didn't see coming. Weak story for Danvers but PRIME TONY ACTIVITY. This is why i hate future seeing abilities. Because the person has the ability and use it, they see something bad. (And forget that the future is not set in stone (only the past) and that self fulfilling prophecies always happen when someone tries to do something towards something that has not happened yet) After seeing the bad thing, they then try to prevent it. They tell others. And problems come about. The future that should have been one of many (had they just let things play out) ends up happening and everyone pays for it. If i could see the future, i'd just keep it to my self and prepare in private for whatever.

This is why the 2nd Marvel civil war was bad as despite the death of war machine, the hospitalisation of She-Hulk, the death of Bruce, they still try to have captain Marvel say they are doing the right thing after that and at no part does she think otherwise even after a vision showed old man Logan stabbing honey badger and everything that lead up to that was captain Marvel's fault. He only did that after shield on her orders shot Logan with an energy cannon, hunted him like a animal, attacked him repeatedly and shot him up with enough drugs to kill a normal person. And she still says she's in the right, she made a new villain by falsely arresting a woman because of a vision then after becoming a villain from the false arrest then then did the thing in the vision. Tony explained in the most simple terms possible that if you 100% follow the visions then the visions are 100% going to happen the way they are shown but she still thinks she knows better.

If you have precognition, use it for yourself and don't use it to be a hero. A wise child once said, "Nobody exists on purpose. Nobody belongs anywhere. We're all going to die. Come watch TV." Thousands of people die every day. Life is cheap, death is cheap, and only the grind is eternal.

The issue with foresight abilities is that knowing something will happen can be the reason it happens, and doing nothing in that case can prevent the prediction from coming true.

This is one of the reasons why I’m not as big a fan of Captain Marvel as I was, she put her blind faith into the predictions and ended up losing three lives, and almost killing miles in the process, not giving up even after it was proven how it was a bad idea

It always blew my mind with this story that one of the biggest reasons the war happened/ escalated isn’t addressed in the main story. Cap was under the influence of Hydra at the time and he was pulling the strings behind the scenes the entire time. They didn’t mention it at all and the only address it in caps main title

I mean, Hawkeye isn’t exactly forced. He just promised Banner that should he ever show signs of becoming Hulk again he would, because at the time he’d been(if I remember correctly) a year in to not hulking out

No, because it just a possibility. Just because you might see a vision of something to pass. One second something could happen to completely change that outcome that you saw

What’s sadder is Hawkeye isn’t acting as a participant in the civil war he was asked by banner that if he was about to hulk out again to kill him before he could, they even design an arrow and where to aim to kill him. If I recall It was unrelated to the Ulysses thing, he just was trying really hard to be good. It’s actually a good plot point

The problem was they are constantly dealing with multiple universes and timelines and yet Carol wanted to arrest people based on a vision no one else could see.

Isn’t this a paradox ? Presumably this exact vision is what would have lead the hulk to killing people for being prosecuted for a crime he didn’t commit and he only does commit it because they’re acting on the future they made into a reality?

If you acknowledge that arresting someone CAN stop the crime from happening... Surely you can do other things to deescalate before it happens? Like, just asking Banner to take some sleeping pills for the day the rage is supposed to happen so he can sleep through it.

What makes these kind of stories worse is the fact that these are only "potential" timelines meaning it's not set in stone to happen and by actively trying to intervene they make it worse

That’s why I like the whole Nighteye arc in MHA. He has the same ability, and can see into the future. Because of this, he believes everything that he sees will, happen no matter the choices, but he ended up forgetting that someone can make a choice that completely alters/nullifies that future. Precognition is a cool ability if you use it to see into the future by a few seconds, like in a fight, but to see into the distant future and firmly believe that it will happen is not a good use and belief, as people can alter any event through choice
