I'm a native of Los Angeles and 57 years old. The first time I ever saw Lemmy was when Motorhead was the opener for Ozzy at Long Beach Arena when Blizzard of Oz tour was happening. The two coolest things about that concert was seeing Lemmy perform and seeing Randy Rhodes perform. The first time I ever went to the Rainbow bar and grill was with my uncle back when I was around 9 or 10 years old, 1974 -'75, my uncle lived on the hill about two blocks down the Sunset Strip from the Bow, we went to pick up a pizza for dinner. I had no idea what the Rainbow was about other than a restaurant, back then. Who knows who was in there that night. But my uncle knew the manager and doorman, being Sicilian, it was one of those things, you know. Fast forward eleven years, it's now 1986, I'm 21, my best friends are musicians and I do some drum tech and lighting, and very soon to be working as a doorman and DJ in one of the biggest topless dancer clubs in the city. The Rainbow was a second home, it was the place that we defaulted to, or any number of strip clubs, when there was nothing else going on or when we wanted drinks and food. Lemmy was a fixture in the bar. My buddy, Johnny and I sat and drank and talked with him on many many occasion. We knew a lot of the same people, and he was always fun to talk with about music and women and of course drugs and drinks. He would spend a lot time playing the video game that was in the downstairs bar, cigarette in mouth and drink within reach. If I remember correctly he drank Jack Daniels and maybe a splash of Coca Cola, those were foggy years. All through my 20s spending many many nights and even days at the Bow. Always someone famous hanging out and I followed in my uncle's footsteps, by being on a first name basis with the managers, Tony and Michael, and of course the female bartenders back then. One of my faves was Liz and then the waitresses were always good eye candy. Lemmy is missed by so many people.

Got to admit I choked up a bit on this one. Lemmy was honestly one of the most beautiful caring humans I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. I don't know how many times I've sat at that bar talking with the man and a few hours later taking more steps sideways than forward to get over to Clark Street leaving Lemmy completely unfazed. We talked everything from WWII to how I was doing coping with the loss of a very dear friend to suicide. He had a genuine desire to know and help any way he could. It was about 6 months after I met Lemmy there that I met Sammy and both had a huge impact on me. To this day I say say that Lemmy was the most honest, approachable and genuine rock icon there ever will be.

I was an usher at that! My ex to this day co manages Motorhead and although we hand't talked in years she reached out and said "Earl you are the only one I know who will know all the musicians on site so can you usher...?" Some funny antectodes -Gene Simmons wanted to sit in the front and his assigned seat I think was in the 7nth row. Put it this way he ended up in front. -Bob Kulick RIP literally would not get out of Slash's seat so when Slash arrives with this gigantic body guard(who by chance I knew from the gym)I thought what am I going to do next? I go to my ex and said "Bob won't get out of Slash's seat and put it this way Bob got out of Slash's seat when my ex had a conversation with him. The only other caveat is I did such a good job at the funeral a few months later the bass player from Dio Jimmy Bain passed and Wendy Dio who helped with Lemmy's funeral told my ex "get that guy who did Lemmy's funeral back we need him!"

Hey Jordan great video about Lemmy. Really like Earl too. Very good insight on his life and war memorabilia and his vices. He was also a very funny guy too. The one thing that I did notice is you mentioned when you got to the Rainbow Bar. You said he used to park his car there. Lemmy didn't own a car. That is why he had the apartment where it was because he would be able to walk to the Rainbow and could drink to his hearts content and could walk back home and most people in the know and was knowledgeable of who he was he never shot anyone down made time for his fans. And if you didn't know him. Most cat's would see Lemmy and once they sized him up they would realize that he was more than Formidable Size Man and think to themselves Damn better leave this Bad Ass Looking Motherfucker Alone. Good Evening We Are MOTORHEAD And We Play Rock & Roll. We're going to clean your Clock. Rest in Peace Brother Rest In Peace. Long Live Me Ian Frazier Kilmisteser .

Excellent, Jordan! I came to know about him later than I should have. Saw The Foo Fighter’s “White Limo” Video and was curious who was the man driving the limo. I can tell that he was someone of importance, even though I did not know who he was at the time. I just remember seeing those boots and I go “Oh my gosh ,killer boots! “. So I researched him and downloaded some of MotorHead’s songs. Then I saw the documentary as you mentioned. The one I saw also featured his son as well. I remember how touched his son’s heart. It was then one of the interviewers ask Lemmy what thing in the room is his most favorite, Lemmy said, “My Son”. Got to respect Lemmy, he was true to himself, he didn’t live by other people’s creed. He fashioned his own and stood by it. Life is too short to to play copycat.

Thanks for doing this, a REAL view into the man, the myth, the legend, there's very few who epitomize Rock N' Roll. Longtime Motorhead fan since probably about 1980(their cover of 'Hoochie Coochie Man' is probably one of my favorite covers), a HUGE influence to my playing/lifestyle, etc. The first time I met Lemmy was a gig with the Cro Mags, and Lizzie Borden @ The Channel in Boston, I think he was playing the CENTIPEDE video game(Glenn Danzig and I would play the ZAXXON one). I would move to California briefly during early 90s and always would visit the Rainbow, but I would never bother Lemmy because I respected him. For those interested, read his autobiography WHITE LINE FEVER.

Lemmy could often be found in various Portland bars playing video poker. He LOVED video poker! He would also come to Portland every year to celebrate the birthday of adopted Portlander Clyde Lewis of Ground Zero Radio -Clyde was also the voice of Toxie in several Toxic Avenger movies which was something that helped bond them as buddies. Sometimes when Lemmy was “off the grid”, he was up here in Oregon laying low and bar-hopping just to decompress…

He and I used to discuss the differences between WW1 and WW2 sometimes. Super-informed about war craft of that theater.

Never been a metalhead and don't know who the guy is but I just watched the documentary Lemmy, very entertaining. I think he may have been the inspiration for Spinal Tap. Thanks for the tip.

I ran into Lemmy on the street one day here in San Diego California a few months before he died. Was a surreal experience. I never did know why he was here in SD.

Jordan, thank you so much for doing a vlog on Lemmy. I was so excited to watch this one. Lemmy was a hero of mine who I met once, and saw perform three times. He's one of my top five favorite musicians! Image my surprise my name was mentioned as a patrion supporter on the day that you did the vlog on Lemmy. Really made my day thank you brother!

Lemmy lived in a flat in Greenfield Road in Colwyn Bay in North Wales! His best friend was a guy named Hayden Bannister! They both left Colwyn Bay for London and ended up roadies for Hendrix! Hayden got messed up on Acid and later died in a car accident!

I went to a Motorhead show in Portand Oregon in the mid 90's and saw Lemmy at a strip club. Walked up and shook his hand and he was a really nice guy. Fast forward a few years, same strip club and going to another Portland Motorhead show, I was sitting and the bar and in walked Lemmy and he sat down next to me where the bar video game player thing was ha. Will always remember those days. He, to me, was the #1 rock god.

When I lived in California in 2003 I probably went to the Rainbow on Sunset over 100 times. Their food was to die for and of course it’s a cool f’ing place to be. Literally EVERY time I went there Lemmy was there as well. If I didn’t know better I would think he lived there. He would stand there by the bar basically talking to the bartender all night.

Was listening to Henry Rollins’ podcast about Lemmy today, and he mentioned that Lemmy moved to a different apartment even closer to the Rainbow before his death. Not sure if that’s true. He also told a story about Lemmy finding a tour suitcase in his apartment that he “lost” years earlier because of how cluttered his place was. Said it was like opening a time capsule ;-)

Motorhead was definitely the loudest band at Bumbershoot, the Seattle music and arts fest held every summer at Seattle Center. For reasons I will never understand, the festival organizers decided to schedule Motorhead for 10:00 AM at the stadium. I'm working security, and at 9:00 AM I'm on the other side of Seattle Center and I hear the Motorhead walk-in music echoing off Queen Anne Hill. The first song was Hells Bells by AC/DC. Fine music for a Sunday morning... I cut my breakfast short. Their set was louder than anything else in the festival, because they discovered a loophole in the City of Seattle noise ordinances for outdoor venues. The volume for the PA system was regulated, but the stage monitors were not. They put way more sound thru the wedge monitors on stage than the rest of the PA. And yes, there were numerous complaints from nearby homeowners. I'm guessing the city closed the loophole after that.

I loved Motorhead. That was the first concert I ever went to was, I'm too old to remember who the other bands were. I remember they both sucked and I remember being deaf for 3 days after Motorhead and burned from the fire in the alley from 2 days of partying and freezing. Good times man

I really liked your vid. Good vibe. I disagree that it was "sad" that Lemmy died 2 days after he found out he was terminal. I dont think he would find it sad either. Just right. Can you imagine the lifestyle change he would undergo to have to fight cancer if he had a chance? He would not have done it. Hell, maybe he already knew years before?

I enjoyed your video however some of your information is wrong. . Lemmy did not park his car at the Rainbow. He did not drive a car that I know of but I could be wrong. The reason he lived so close to the bow was so he could easily walk there and back. Plus with all the Jack he drank he would have been way over the legal limit. He also went to Barney's Beanery where he could drink a elephant beer with a side of Jack of course. I know this for a fact because I went there with him a few times just as friends. . AND WE WALKED. Lemmy was a gentleman and a true good friend. He always had time to wipe my tears and give me brotherly advice . He was that way to so many of us. We became his family not by blood but by honor. .
