James Russell When it comes to these kinds of industries, purely pursuing wealth comes at the expense of the whole of society. Obviously, from the standpoint of a business, its only objective is to increase its own prosperity. But the whole of society is also to be considered. A business that allows their (almost always) excessive greed to come at the expense of consumers and workers, is not one that is beneficial to society. It's not even that beneficial to the happiness of its main beneficiary, as happiness generally caps out at around 6 figures.

Since they all came from roughly the same era, they jockeyed for position of the richest American. Vanderbilt was the first richest, then Rockefeller. My question is didn't Carnegie eclipse Rockefeller when JP Morgan bought Carnegie Steel? Although I realize that Rockefeller retook the title when Henry Ford's automobile allowed Rockefeller to recoup gasoline from crude oil in addition to the initial by product of kerosine. (Lucky for Rockefeller since Edison's incandescent light was destroying his market for kerosine) Am I correct in saying that for a while, (months-maybe a year or two) Carnegie was wealthier than Rockefeller?
@justyntyme4308
Жыл бұрын
@@ramonsancheztorello7111 thanks! That era reminds me so much of today. I think their monopolies, etc., allowed them the money to connect science with technology and was the impetus for America becoming the greatest economy in the world. But, since they didn't really share their wealth with the average American working poor, they deserved their trusts to be busted. The dynamics are slightly different this time around with the businesses having learned how to buy out gov't. But a correction should come before the century ends. Maybe from a president or the supreme court. I do remember that members of the court regretted their decision that basically said that, in regard to campaign financing businesses had the same rights as people. We shall sée.

I sense that you are looking to provoke a reaction for this gross simplification. You missed the part about unrest in Greece and consequently Cyprus because of their close cultural ties, and Turkey taking advantage of this by with an illegal invasion from the North. Although it had a sliver of legal standing under the terms of the "Independence treaty" drawn up by the Brits. Yes it was no match and yes it was an illegal invasion, but this was 1974 before advanced satellites and during the height of the Cold War. America couldn't 100% count on Turkey as an ally and so wanted a base on Cyprus like the Brits. To achieve this ironically America funded Turkey to invade and has since admitted this under the 30-year rule. One of my Grandmas, who was being evacuated back to England with my 7 year old mum claims she even saw a few British planes also getting involved in the conflict to help Turkey. When she asked the soldiers about it they said "it was politics" even though they didn't agree with it. The Greek side of my family had links with the church and first priest, there are claims that plans for the island to be split existed as early as 1954, 'near enough' to the UN buffer zone that is still in place today. On the ground many Cypriots were in favour to join EU on the basis that the North would then be classed an occupied EU territory, but despite 'talks' there was no action and few people realise that EU is in fact partly occupied by Turkish forces.

Their wealth cannot be measured because they own storages full of gold. As for their actions, they've been financing both sides of war since Napoleon, because they control almost every central bank in the world. They have ties with the assassination of Lincoln, Garfield and JFK, because they wanted to take back the control of these banks. The one who fought most against them was Hitler himself. With the media control they made an overeacting deal of the jew genocide, while covering up the one in ukraine. Also they are directly responsible for the murder of Russian royal family and october revolution. And that's only a fragment of their power. Like I said, they control everything.

Of course they can quit! But thing is in the US capitalism is running rampant. And capitalism doesn't have the best interest of the workers at heart! A worker has to work to survive, and the only work available in this society pays him bones while the bosses are feasting on the flesh of his work meanwhile doing nothing more to earn it than pure and simple exploitation! The worst part is that the US is forcing this kind of society all over the planet.

I think the canal building project of Vanderbilt was needed to be added in. If a Southern Democrat invading Nicaragua (called a filibuster) had not seized his shipping line in Nicaragua, Vanderbilt would have beat the Panama Canal by decades. Also, the shipping companies that paid him off were being paid by the US government, when Vanderbilt himself received no money from the feds to run his lines. It led to the end of wasteful government spending on terrible shipping companies.

I would fully fund Simple History with a $5 Billion backing. Then I would continually buy several cars and preserve them. To make a badass car museum. The rest I would use to make a palace.
