As a Physician you should be savvy to the Pharmaceutical s that you are prescribing to your patients. Bupe is an opioid, although a partial agonists, an opioid none the less. A dissociative like RX "K" would obviously produce a dangerous high when combined with an opioid. The physician should definitely NOT be held responsible. The patient knew EXACTLY what he was doing. He wanted to produce for himself a nice, warm opiate high while still claiming to others, and himself that he was still sober and in recovery. Us addicts know every pharmaceutical cocktail recipe....

During most of my youth, my mother was ill and mostly bedridden with untreated pain from multiple painful conditions that can't be fixed. I had to physically fight her, as a kid, to stop her from doing something to stop the pain that I don't know if I'm allowed to say in YT comments. Over a decade ago a doctor prescribed the infamous Purdue opioid. I think it saved her life because it got her out of bed and exercising, doing gardening intense enough I can't keep up with her. He dosage hasn't increase beyond the initially prescribed amount. She doesn't seem high or loopy. We agree she probably is physically addicted by now, but at 77, so what? Never in my wildest dreams did I think she would this long and in pretty good shape considering. I agree that Purdue did awful things to a lot of people and those people deserve justice; but in our zeal to do right, I hope it isn't forgotten that for some fraction of humans, such strong drugs might literally extend their lives and greatly improve quality of life. Mom's doctor will be retiring soon and we both worry the scandal will have made it essentially impossible to continue getting that medication.

About dr's staying in their lane... my rheumatologist wanted my anxiety treated...I had to stop anxiety medication to be able to have my chronic pain treated ... my rheumatologist made me get a non controlled anxiety medication buspare approved by my pain dr who was the one that took my anxiety (controlled medication) away. Thankfully my pain dr agreed and my anxiety is so so much better. Why my pain dr did not suggest this medication when he took the other one away I will never know.... but I appreciate my rheumatologist trying to be respectful of my pain dr and also trying to make sure I didn't void my pain contract and he was still trying to help me where no one else was and it was definitely something that needed to be addressed and effected all of my other health issues... they all effect each other... And I also wish all my specialists would try to all be on the same page and treat me as a whole and know what the other are doing. Would be much better care and a lot safer

I’m not able to get any opioids to help me with the chronic pain in my knee which is deformed by arthritis. Pain is just part of my life. I will be able to get help when I have my knee replacement surgery on the 23rd of July. I have been putting it off since I had a hip replacement after being denied surgery in March 2020 due to the pandemic for 2 months. Doctors will not consider prescribing it for any reason. I have needed pain medication since I ran out of the medication for my hip surgery. It’s like doctors are only trying to cover themselves from prosecution more than care for their patients. I am not addicted to opioids because I have had several surgeries from trauma and had no difficulty with stopping taking them. Those who are addicted have no control over taking drugs and take measures to procure them illegally. Doctors have taken the rap for addiction deaths that were not the result of their prescription. I am so anxious to get my knee replaced. I’m 70 years old.

By my last one surgery I was very aware of what I needed to manage pain but they still sent me home with a bottle of Percocet. After my hysterectomy my pain was 100% from pelvic floor muscle spasms but they wouldn't give me muscle relaxers. Instead they have morphine and/or fentanyl? I get injections in my pelvic floor and the immediate pain is from muscle spasms, yet they give narcotics instead of the muscle relaxers I'm prescribed to take every night. I have to bring my own.

I live in AZ and the laws here are very against opioids. I'm praying that my “new” doctor on Monday listens. It’s my 2nd time seeing her and I didn't realize she manages pain and has for 24 years. She's a real DO/MD. I recently realized Ive been receiving care from a non MD/DO facility run by a Physical Therapist (because there's no instruction guide to the medical system) anddoctors are limited by AZ laws but they want your money. So they don't tell you there are options. Everyone tells you to advocate for yourself but due to opidiood bias most doctors want nothing to do with opioids. When I’m trying to explain, I NEED HELP! They hearthen assume, “yes she needs mental help!” When my anxiety is always a response to medical PTSD. I'm a multiracial, female, that has medical pTsD. I am only triggered in medical settings because I've been abused by medical professionals. It’s insane.

Hopefully only Matthew Perry. Nobody forced him to take drugs. It's not the Dr.'s or the pharmaceutical companies fault, either. I'll be on opioids the rest of my life. They are the the only things that enable me to have a normal life. Most opioid deaths were not caused by opioids alone, but by mixing it with alcohol or other drugs. They were counted as opioid overdoses. It was never as bad as reported. Now it's Fentanyl and Carfentanyl which are. Maybe it'll take the heat off drugs that people with chronic pain need. @@Steve-ev6vx that is a pretty judgemental statement. Opioids work very different for chronic pain and I can verify it's totally possible to have no effects like the " euphoria" and in fact it goes all to the pain and makes quality of life more normal. Everyone processes drugs different and some have a high tolerance or fewer receptors effected. It can increase quality of life and have no side effects besides constipation, in fact normalizes life and gets people up out of bed. If a medication helps someone for 9 years, to just take that away is cruel. It most certainly can not make people " high". She's still very young. Sometimes it takes a while before people are ready to stop using. Has she tried CBD oil rather than MC flowers? Could be worth a try, alleviate the anxiety without the "high". . At that age she's very influenced by her peers. Getting her into a support group where she meets peers who have the same goal, to change their behavior. Therapy might help too. I was like your daughterat the same age, my addiction issues stemmed from being S.A'd when I was a child/young teen. Has she anything like that in her past? Worth trying to find out why she's driven to avoid reality and life. She's still young, there is time and her brain is still forming. Often that's part of the issue- growing from child to adult is very hard for some people. I wish you both the very best of luck. Stick by her- the love you show her maintains trust and truthfulness. Do draw firm boundaries though, some behaviours do require consequences but be strategic about it. Negotiation can work wonders with the right communication. Maybe you could both attend a few sessions together with a counsellor to mediate the agreement. Be kind to yourself, it's very stressful on parents and the constant worry will wear you down. I know both sides of this- my youngest daughter started on the same path I was on, which of course is my greatest fear-(No cptsd fortunately, more bulemia/anorexia and cutting herself, which was absolutely heartbreaking). She's finally been diagnosed with bi polar/bpd, I am the same, same build, same personality type, as was my mother and her mother before her- all very similar re physiology and behaviour patterns. Do you know if there isany history genetically of mental instability in your family? It could also be worth doing a bit of testing to see if any base chemicals are messed up in her brain. Again, good luck to you both, netfriend. You will both make It, hang in there. Parenthood can be so damn hard sometimes. x Edit: realised you didn't state her age. May be a different situation if she's older, but most addicts are still hurt little kids inside, it's why we readily take things that stop us feeling so much.

My pharmacist spent those 5 days apologizing to his clients instead of filling prescriptions. His pharmacy fills for the local Hospice services, has always been honest and never a complaint. I had a miserable 4 days and now book my appointment at the beginning of the month. THIS doesn't address the problem and harms patients.

I study package inserts and it gives full information. Off label is important to quality care when on label meds don't work. Great discussion.

I had taken Effexor for depression for many years. Once my physician and I decided to switch to another medication for depression, the withdrawal process was very difficult.

Chronic pain patient, in the UK, who at times has really struggled to get medications -- have been scrutinised as an addict by some. (This was primarily when I was only diagnosed with: fibromyalgia & myofascial pain, plus ehlers danlos signs, endometriosis and adenomyosis, and some mysterious undiagnosed pain.... ...... Since having been diagnosed stage 4 cancer (age 43), the palliative nurses will phone doctors to sort medication if I'm struggling.... ...... Prior to being recognised as stage 4 cancer, really struggled to get adequate pain relief, as the mystery pain was a mystery and I wasn't believed in how bad it was. Have found that psychiatric services (PTSD, but needed brief inpatient at one point) were immensely sceptical about physical health issues, and would not put in place reasonable accommodations... Tried to tell me I didn't have illnesses I've had since birth.

It's hypocritical for CA to pursue this while its cities distribute free drugs to addicts. But that's CA thinking.

Buphrenorphrine is like Suboxone or Belbucca. These are anti addictive drugs. Not totally a opioid. We are under treated so badly these days. My drs response? Maybe i should go into assisted living at 67!

I just got dropped down on my statex without anyone telling me until I got to the pharmacy. 20mg drop a day is quite a bit for me. Now I'm going through withdrawal for no reason. What a great system we have in Ontario Canada.

Soon we will not be able to get pain meds because some people will abuse them.

If they were concerned about abuse then why are they trying to stop pain medication for Hospice patients who can be just days away from dying. There is someting else going on because the govt. does not care about the people . They never have and never will.

Here is advice from an older physician who has practiced and been board certified in internal medicine, hematology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, hospice and palliative medicine and medical acupuncture(without board certificcation) and who has had multiple serious medical issues personally: With the exceptions of normal body constituents such as water, lipid, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, insulin, thyroid hormones, and so on, NO DRUG belongs in your body and ALL of them are by nature poisons. They ALL have potential toxic effects, and there safe and effective use comes through pharmacologic training and experience. Alcohol and other”recreational substances” are included in the very long risk of toxins. Live your life as best to you can to avoid them all, and if you can’t avoid them, make VERY SURE that the goals of your care should include at ever visit a discussion of what you can do to get off them and how to determine when the risks of using those drugs outweigh the desired benefits. No doctor worth 10 cents will avoid such discussion. After all, your life is the life that bears the cost.

I have chronic pain from RA and Felty's Syndrome. My Rheumatologist has told me, to my face, anyone looking at my x-rays would know I need opiates for pain control. Will she give me what I need? NO!! If I am in active treatment with the biologic I get the pain goes down. The biologic wastes my immune system on the B cell side. So when I have to rest my body from the biologic, Percocet does not control pain. Up until a couple years ago, I was being treated by a pain clinic and treated like a drug addict and I was mentally ill.

Let them prosecute. Doctors will simply not prescribe. You cannot prosecute a physician for not prescribing a drug that has potential for abuse, even if it is being used to treat opioid use disorder. if the prosecutor is so gung-ho about coming after people whose job is to dose people with very dangerous medications to treat addiction, then why stop him/her? Someone will have to pay for this tragedy, after all! I hate to say this, but “it is what it is.” He was taking a prescribed opiate and he OD’d. Right now, we can only treat opiate cravings with opiates which carry the risk of death. That’s not the doctor’s fault. I say, prosecute. Sit back and watch the fall out. This country is just a mess. Welcome to America. I love it. Word of advice? Do everything in your power to avoid addiction. Because even treatment for addiction has become politicized.

I've been taking Lexapro 20mg for chronic depression for 8 years now. If I miss a day or two of taking it I will start having brain zaps! Can there be long term un-reversable side effects from this drug?
