It's not from 1978 but Last Hurrah for Chivalry is by far one of the best Kung Fu movies ever made. Directed and written by John Woo in 1979, and has one of the best stories along with some really bad ass fight scenes. As for your list, I totally approve. I'll even let you have Born Invincible, despite the fact it stars Garbage Wong (as me and my friends called him back in the day) I've been an old-school Hong Kong Kung Fu movie fan since 15 yrs old. (not counting Bruce Lee's movies from my childhood) "5 Deadly Venoms" was my first. It absolutely blew me away and I become hooked. Challenge of the Ninja/Heroes of the East might be my most watched, and in my personal top 5 hall of fame. I own almost all of these movies on DVD. "Poison Clan Rocks The World"

There was also a 'Snake in Monkey's shadow' that came out about that time. This movie and 36th Chamber of Shaolin was shown in theaters in India, almost at the same time. Gordon Liu was Liu Chia Hui in the credits. I remember when someone who had already seen the movie told me that there is no "36th chamber" in the movie, only 35, I was disappointed -- but saw the movie anyway. :-) I remember Jackie Chan, not from his earlier movies, but from the funny movie The Cannonball Run which came a couple of years later.

Yeah probably. Either 1978 or 1979 for me, although remembering that Heroes of the East, Drunken Master, Avenging Eagle and those venoms movies all came out the same year kinda puts it into perspective that 78 is probably the best. I'd probably add Snake & Crane Arts of Shaolin. While close to plotless, it's interesting seeing a full fledged traditional KF Jackie movie that isn't very mucked up in comedy and silly stuff. Oh, and Warriors Two.

I loved these movies growing up. I was 16 in 78 and remember one movie in particular sticks in my mind, but we were all stoned at the drive in and I can't remember the title. Just that it involved I think was 7 sisters, maybe 5, maybe 9?, pretty sure they were mentioned in the title. They were trained assassins and I think they were the main character's personal guards/harem, and they may or may not have been actual blood sisters, it may have been a sisterhood. I just remember one of them wrapping up an attacker in a vicious looking thigh high leg lock to the head in the harem quarters or something. She was on her back, holding both of his arms and he was in the kneeling position, his face looking at his feet. She had him good, and his trousers had either been snatched off at some point during the fight, or he was a rapist and took them off himself, when one of the girls put what looked like sharpened almonds, but could have been wooden darts shaped like almonds, in her mouth and proceeded to machine gun spit five or six of them like darts into his right butt cheek as seen from the right side. It was hilarious, every time one hit and stuck he'd scream and both his legs would fly up in the air. I think I passed out from laughing at that point and do not remember anything else. But I would love to see it again.😅

Help! I’m trying to find 2 separate (I believe they were separate) Kung Fu films from the 1970’s. Couldn’t remember any actors, titles, or even production companies because I was so young when I saw them. Definitely was on a late night Kung Fu TV matinee. 1: Craftsman (slightly heavyset) has to complete the Emperor’s door or gate. The cruel Emperor’s men proclaim the hammer as a “weapon”, forcing the craftsman to finish “hammering” the door spikes with bare hands. 2. Seeking revenge Kung Fu student practices on a metal (bronze) Wing Chung dummy… a few select punches are used to “unlock” metal “testicles” that fall out of crouch to signify that technique has been performed correctly. Bragging rights to all winners! Thanks 👍

I think its the only movie Bolo Yeung ever directed, which is a shame, cause Its incredible. Its really the most unique kung fu flick ever imo, unlike any other, due to how dark it is tonally, and the fact it has a biblical theme through out, which no other kung fu flick has. @@MartialArtsTheater3000 well thank you, greatly appreciated. I really wish “Kid with the Golden Arm” was released a few months earlier. It was an amazing movie but unfortunately made in 1979.

For my money, Eight Diagram Pole Fighter, Crippled Avengers, and Touch of Zen are better films than The 36th Chamber, but it's still a masterpiece and this is still a wonderful list here

Arguably a different genre, but the Lone Wolf and Cub movies in 1972 and 1973 were the best. A masterclass in 70’s Japanese film making. Baby Cart at the River Styx is the best one and is scored with a funky synth pop futuristic sound. Realistically depicting high pressure arterial spray which is what happens when arteries are cut by blades was a graphic realness that king fu films lacked.

I would've added The Invincible Armor even though it came out in 1977 a year before very good movie

Heck yeah Gordon Liu in Hero of the East showing Japanese vs Chinese fighting and weapons. And yes no one dies and is still badass.
