We’ve all spent an hour and more trying to dial in a reverb pedal. I need to replace my MacBook PRO and I need to decide what recording platform to go with - thanks for this.

I once added a delay pedal into my reverb knob session and when I looked up, it was a week later! Awesome to hear that you're considering Ableton! On the MBP side, I finally upgraded my 2015 potato to an M1Pro. Rock solid and well worth it, in my opinion. And, $300 off on Amazon right now. I presume in the shadow of the M2 launch.

Thank you so much! Some pretty interesting Ableton stuff (non-guitar) in the latest vid if you get a chance!

This totally reminds me of my current rig for guitar. I’m playing through a Line 6 Spider Mk II 60. There’s a TON of modeling in that amp! Talk about fussing around with knobs for an hour… It’s cool for the nerd aspect and trying wild stuff but I also like the tube and pedal sound.

Nothing beats tube and pedal and hearing that blast of sound- but man, we’ve come a LONG way from Gorilla Practice Amps! Can’t be mad at that!

I appreciate your vid and I can see why Ableton Live works for you, but in my case, but the reasons you listed are the exact reasons I don't see Live working for me. I need a straightforward recording set up with robust audio editing . . . no Push, no Live Looping, no using a computer on stage, etc. That being said, I am stuck in the endless search for "MY DAW."

i love Ableton live for live looping. I´m just wondering what audio interface are you using. I´m wondering if the SSL 2 is a good choice. What´s your choice? Thanks!

sorry it took a minute to get back-- was on a bit of a YT hiatus! But, I'm just using the old trusty Focusrite 212-- The SSL2 is great as well. I think most of the interfaces at this price point are going to get you similar (or close to) results...which are all damn fantastic. So, I think a lot of it comes down to what software you get with it. The SSL has a fantastic offering, with Ultra Analog/Amplitube/Lounge Lizard, plus Melodyne in there. I use all of those all the time. Novation, on the other hand will often get you Ozone, and now they have that Plugin Collective thing that offers monthly downloads, which I got Massive from for free. Both the SSL and the Focusrite (at this price point) don't let you loopback audio. which is the real killer feature-- but we won't find that until we hit the next level up. That's something I'll be looking at when it comes to upgrade time!

@@TheoreticallyMedia thank you. I really appreciate your work. I just bought the sl + 2 and I love the sound and the capability to monitor channel 3/4 on the second output headphone. Cheers!

🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤ But yeah, ableton or reaper. Both are solid choices. Side note, your channel is really good - going to get a lot more subscribers for sure i'd say.

Excellent to hear! Ableton is so much fun! Funny enough, I also ended up picking up a small midi keyboard, and it’s actually made me a better keyboard player. I’ve got this theory that if you learn some keys as a guitar player, that knowledge transfers in a weird way back to guitar. Like, you just end up seeing the fretboard differently.

Ha! I gotta admit, I love that drab olive green...plus it had like, 12 pockets! Sadly, I say "had" because I wore it too much and it fell apart in the wash.

100% valid, although I was talking to a pal who recently switched from FL to Ableton, and his take was that he would have saved a ton of money on plugins if he’d just started on Ableton. Like, there’s more stock stuff built into Ableton? That said, lifetime updates are sweet. As long as they don’t pull a Bitwig!

I use FL also but thinking of trying Ableton because I've heard it can be better purely for guitar
