I use both standard and claw mixed, I switch between the two regularly. In more casual games I use regular, but if I’m in a competitive atmosphere I will switch to claw mid battle, mostly for dropshotting. It’s funny because I never thought to myself I’m ganna switch to claw, it just kinda happened naturally. I didn’t even notice I was doing it for a while.

I've always naturally been able to just switch to claw in the middle of play when I have to. I never really had to specifically practice it or learn new muscle memory and I've never really had any issue with pressing the wrong button. It might be because I apply it in other non-shooters like Smash Bros too, or it might be because I'm a guitar player and my hands are used to changing position for different techniques.

I've actually reached the same conclusion as you and ditched my old modded control a couple months ago in favor of a regular one plus claw. My analogs began drifting a little bit already (as I use them for stuff like sliding, melee and they're not very durable anyway) so after seeing this video I was going to treat them like disposable peripherals and get a new one... then I realized I live in Brazil and can't easily sell them (no big retailer buys used stuff here) or just buy a new one for 40 bucks (they cost at least R$200 here, which is about 65 dollars).

I was spectacle about going claw at first. I had just changed my controls for Titanfall 2 (the game I play the most) and thought that would be enough. However, my tactical, which due to the change in controls is bound to A, was difficult to use and I kept on losing melee, now bound to B, due to my inability to get to it in time. So, I tried out claw grip. For about a week, I sucked, but after I got used to it, I now play much better then a did before the change. Thank you for the advice, Luke.

I'm surprised people say they find it uncomfortable or even painful. If you have any pain holding a controller claw style you are simply doing it wrong. It's not demanding on the hands at all. It's not a tight grip on the right side, a lot of people have their right hand pretty loose while the left hand holds the controller. Any trouble trying to get your index finger to reach the face buttons means you need to move your hand up a little more, as in when holding the controller rotate your right hand upwards in the direction of your thumb. Another starting point is to lie your middle finger along the right bumper and then see where your hand naturally grips the controller in that position, then adjust from there.

Yeah this is very true, I have had my Scuff Xbox one controller for about a year and a half and I can tell that the sticks are completely worn out, my left stick doesn't even make the click sound anymore, pressing down on it is like trying to press it down when it's already pressed down and a lot of the time you can't even tell that you clicked it. I tried my best to keep the controller in perfect condition by putting it in its case everytime I stopped playing and even then it still ended up messing up, there is especially a lot of stick drift which means that the stick wouldn't completely stay in the middle meaning that you would be slowly aiming to the side without even touching the stick. I probably will end up just buying a regular controller since It does sound like an easier option especially since I already know how to play claw. So yeah for everyone wondering this is very true and a very normal thing for a controller to eventually be worn out to this point so just stick to the original controllers as your aim is very important, thanks to everyone who read this and have a nice day/night :D

I appreciate someone bringing this to light. I have for many years taken apart controllers to fix, replace parts, and simple clean up. I can attest to the thumbsticks; they're essentially the same as the standard controller. because I'm cheap and I know how to do this stuff (this takes a set of skills, and I'd recommend some training before attempting). Every 4 months, I open the controller and clean out the thumbsticks modules with rubbing alcohol and q tips. after 8 months, I replace the modules. this isn't as tedious as most would say, but this is a option if you want to keep up with your elite controller. there are other tips I can give. but thanks for bringing this to everyone attention. it's always bothered me how Microsoft advertises this controller, knowing the parts inside are essentially the same as the standard controller. breakdown: if you're a tech nerd like me, and know how to fix shit, buy the elite. if you don't have these skills. stick to standard controller.

On that note, I have a story, I recently also got another standard controller because my other one was FUBAR. The right thubstick had a broken spring and had therefore made my Spartan slowly look upwards, the bumpers moved sluggishly and my X and Y buttons were so used that one press required 5 seconds of rising back to proper position just so I could chronically press the button again. It was HORRIBLE and I was POOR so I had to at like that for about 3 1/2 weeks. I feel like everyone should know that section about controller wear and tear, thanks for forming those who did not know!

I have had wired controllers all my time with xbox one, i hated getting batteries for xbox 360. I take care of my controllers, i barely dropped it and the spring never breaks, even if i fidget with it. Claw grip is for people who can't flick their shots. I play on regular and i tap A and flick my pistol shots.

I thought claw was how first person games were played until a friend pointed it out to me.

same thing happened to me when I got two new white controllers, my accuracy was so much better than on the black controllers I got two and a half years ago

You're right about the controller thing. I can't walk backwards in FPS games.

Controllers need chrome silicone springs, long wear life. I never grew up playing, just considering it now lol I'm 23 Firearm recoil buffer springs wear out using spring steel after 10k or so. Chrome silicone has around a 500K to 1M cycle rate for buffers. That sucker would never die lol
