Bro, I'm the "easy gainer" phenotype, so almost the polar opposite of you. I can sit down at a buffet and continuously eat for hours. I once ate about 12 plates of food at an AYCE buffet. I pray daily to have your "problem" where eating would be something I could forget about or treat like the habit of brushing my teeth.

Thank you for sharing so openly. People seem to view eating issues as either "eat more" or "eat less." There are so many layers to weight gain/loss, and as you describe, some of those layers are mental. Plus it all sounds clear-cut on paper, but it's easier said than done. I'm sorry for all the harassment you've gotten due to your weight; that sounds awful.. Hoping you can find something that works for you so you can meet your personal goals and find some peace. ❤ Side note, I am also someone who can't eat in the mornings. Drinking coffee is about all I can do until about 1pm. I'm on the WAY opposite side of the weight spectrum from you, so I guess it can happen to anyone!

Moving out definitely helped, but I only really ever cook when my partner comes over or I specifically crave something. It is very difficult to maintain my weight, I've lost 25 kilos in about half a year, then gained them right back without changing my diet because of different birth control (that shit sucks). this! my partner and i both grew up with ED’s, his is mostly related to his autism so it’s closest to having avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (also referred to as ARFID) and almost 10 years ago i was diagnosed with “eating disorder otherwise unspecified” (EDNOS) - it’s now known as other specified eating and feeding disorders (OSFED). so many people, unconsciously, hear eating disorder and still default to thinking about anorexia nervosa and bulimia, disordered eating is a spectrum and it’s also so very intertwined with OCD

The stomach needs to be trained to eat more. Think of it like a muscle the less you use it the smaller it gets and the more you use it the bigger it gets. Now i'm not saying to do anything extreme like you did with those meal replacement shakes. Take it slow start by eating every day even if its just once a day for three months then double the size you eat that for three months. Keep increasing the size every 3 months till you reach a normal size plate. now if you want to do this it is up to you.

lots of people start vaping to try to quit smoking, but they still have a nicotine addiction and the vape stuff probably isn't ideal for lung health. The scent pen is designed to help people quit vaping by providing a displacement activity. When you crave vaping, you can use the pen instead, get the nice scent and fidget with it to reduce stress, it can help to distract people from the nicotine craving. Quitting nicotine is really hard, people need all the help they can get.

ARFID stands for avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder. I have ADHD and ARFID and I simply do not like to eat. It's a chore and boi oh boi... the ADHD brain loves nothing more than avoiding chores. Might be worth looking into.

I dont know why im so fascinated by your eating journey but i really appreciate you sharing so much, its important for people to realize that others have different body types/metabolisms and its not always due to a disease or deficiency. i have ARFID so i also HATE eating and its helpful to hear someone else describe it because not many people relate. eating is a chore so yeah, i can understand the desire to not have to eat at all. ive realized I dont eat enough calories a day, due to both not finding food interesting and not being hungry. my weight is still a healthy BMI despite only getting around 1000 calories a day maybe? goes again to show that everyone is different, because i may be a healthy weight but i feel awful from not eating (lightheaded, etc). the past year i have been eating the same things for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in order to force my calories in. somehow im not sick of it yet, but its not fun thats for sure. Anyway your journey is really interesting, all the work youve put into it is motivating. congrats on your progress so far, and best of luck

Your putting too much thought into this bro, first of all eating shit fast food from door dash and complaining about the way you look dont go hand in hand, if you want to grow you have to learn to eat for function and not enjoyment. Fast food isnt going to do it and its killing you literally nothing good in any of it, same goes with the soda terrible for you, neither are good for growing healthy muscle, also just stuffing your mouth with food isnt going to do it, just smashing calories isnt going to do it , you need to figure out your basal metablic rate, research it you can find conversions online, once you know how many calories you need resting , then you only need to up that amount according to how much exercise you do , upping it 600-700 calories should be fine for you, then you need to monitor your protein intake , recent literature has shown that anywhere from .7g-1g of protein per body weight. So multiply your body weight by .8 then thats how much protein you need to eat a day to grow muscle. Then the last part is to figure it all out . Find a way to get healthy food and the amounts you need . You will grow . It takes discipline bro, if you do it right it will work. It you take the lazy junk route , you will be stuck were you are.

Omg I'm commenting so much, this is my favourite topic obviously sorry: i follow someone called One Handed Cooks, they post a lot about batch cooking and feeding kids and also making food less intimidating for kids. The cutting it up made me think of it. Giving yourself less and breaking meals up into less food more frequently could help, or maybe it would just be a ballache, but anyway - batch cooking and always having snack bars around that aren't shit might help. That might be a few steps on from where you are right now. My dog is currently refusing to eat his raw food because he doesn't like it enough and will do it for days. The starvation as genuine alternative isn't even just a human trait 😆

We're all different, maybe you need to accept something about yourself that you didn't previously want to. I am a personality type that is often called a "human doing" instead of a human being. And because of that, some people don't like me. I am kind to people, but I focus hard on work and it's really my greatest strength.

long time listener first time commenter! i was moved to leave you a comment because the way you described your eating habits and rituals reminds me of myself. i heard the part where you mentioned they diagnosed you with OCD, but i wanted to help spread awareness about ARFID because what you are going through sounds very similar to my experience. i hate to be yet another asshole commenter arm chair diagnosing, but my eating disorder consumes my life and not having a name for what was happening to me was ruining my life so i try to spead awareness about this rare eating disorder where i can. i have avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) and can not eat a lot of foods. ARFID essentially boils down to your brain classifying some food as "non food" or being unsafe and you can't eat it. for 20% of people with this disorder it "extends past the plate" meaning that you have to eat off certain plates, or with specific cutlery, etc. people with ARFID often have highly ritualized eating habits like not allowing food to touch, being a precise temperature, eating the crust first then the topping part of the pizza, eating the crusts off sandwhiches first, etc. it's unique amongst eating disorders because it's not motivated based on how you look - it's more akin an extreme phobia than other eating disorders. ARFIEs also tend to be content with eating the same food all the time. it felt so alienating not understanding that there was a name for this disorder that has impacted me deeply for my entire life. i thought i was just an extremely picky eater, and it induced so much anxiety always having to explain myself to people when eating around them. for a decade i sought out different doctors and answers about what was wrong with me. about every 6 months or so i would try to google different phrases to find answers. one day when i was in my mid 20s i got a hit - it was ARFID. it changed my life forever learning that there was a name for what was happening to me. i felt vindicated for all the shit i went through from all the assholes pressuring me about food. it is fairly newly discovered as a disorder so a lot of doctors don't understand much about it. i wish you so much peace and love for your journey. whether you are a fellow ARFIE or not, eating struggles are no joke and take so much effort to work through. you are so strong and i truly admire you (not just talking about the eating struggles, it's so inspiring how you have this ability to get shit done).

I can actually confirm that the question the doctor asked is reasonable lol. Small balls can mean low testosterone (aka, the production plants are atrophied) and small pp can also mean low testosterone because less testosterone leads to less random erections (which actually stretch it out and are needed to keep it from shrinking). However, someone can be massive and still have low testosterone as well as the opposite... Also, as someone who once had male levels of testosterone, I can confirm that testosterone doesn't really impact your physical activity much, and you can still get reasonably buff and strong without it. It's mostly down to how much weight you're lifting and how much you eat.

22:07 This is so interesting, because for me it's roughly the same experience. Once I start eating, I have a very limited timeframe where I "want" to eat before my body completely stops dead in it's tracks and doesn't allow more. It doesn't matter how much I ate, it's the TIME it took me to eat it. No matter what food, eventually the texture, consistency or just the smell of whatever is in front of my face becomes disguting after 10mins. Never really thought much of it because it's so normal for me. I never eat in restaurants and if I do, I never eat an appetizer and basically finish my meal as fast as I can. It is awkward for sure, because some people actually take like 30 minutes to finish their plate, meanwhile I'm sitting there eating as fast as I can to finish as much food as I will need to be satiated just the right amount. I just accept the way I am and often eat standing in the kitchen because it's sometimes not even worth it for me to sit down and eat as I finish my food so fast. Luckily I still enjoy eating and this never caused me to have any weight issues at all.

Due to illness, it is difficult for me to gain more kilos. But I realized some time ago that maybe I don't need to. I don't know my exact body fat percentage, but maybe around 17-18%. Looks like I'm skinny fat too. It shows on my stomach if I eat more for a while. But this might mean 2-3 kilos, maximum. It is not visible anywhere else. But basically I have a thin body. Of course, this shape has improved thanks to training for some time, but I want to improve it further. I don't think my weight will be more than 1-3 kilos compared to the actual. But I will have less fat on me. So my abs will also be more visible. I don't think your body shape is bad. If you keep training, it can only get better. It may not be significantly, but this is what God gave. I wrote to one of your videos (maybe) that you should eat more. But maybe not. Maybe you just need to maintain this weight and you're done. That's how you look. Extra weight is not necessarily good for you. If you feel good in your own skin, and you can do your daily tasks more easily, you are less tired, you have already won.

I struggle to put weight on and have never been able to. I have never been confronted by a doctor over my weight because they 100% expect me to be very thin because of my health problems. My mom only cares that I put on weight to gain muscles to get a girlfriend but I told her over and over that I straight up cant and I'm asexual so good luck with that.

I was a kid who was made to eat and shamed for not eating because I had similar issues. My kid is the same. He gets a lot of sugar. His baby teeth have suffered a bit, but he's now old enough that he has a good menu of foods he'll go to and he will get adult teeth. I am OVERWEIGHT. I eat all the time. I can't leave a plate uncleared. I eat without realising, but particularly when I'm unhappy or bored or need something else. I have railroaded my "I'm full" senses and I can out-eat my muscular athletic husband. Your mum really did do the best she could. We did kid meal replacement drinks for a bit too. School anxiety made him worse, but that's another story. I guess you already know about ARFID. He isn't diagnosed with that but I could have been. He is autistic tho. The Asperger's flavour.

As someone who has been focusing on gaining muscle for quite a while, high protein and healthy fats was a godsend I will literally just cook up 2 kilos of chicken or steak using butter to cook it In and then add cheese 😆 Being adhd I really struggle with ensuring that I eat meals, I will more likely just grab what is there so it would either be a case of not eating or eating junk I'm sorry to hear that you've had such an odd relationship with food and your weight and I'm glad your trying to push past all of this ❤ You can definitely see that you are successfully gaining weight and your looking really good Ps I'm loving all the current deep dive informative content that you are currently making

Alex, proud of you for such awareness and acknowledgment on these various issues. As long as you're happy, if working towards a goal is what you need then so be it. However it's not about the goal, it's about the journey :)

on the therapy thing, not claiming you're autistic, but we all know the speculation: autistic people often have bad experiences when they try to have therapy from a therapist who doesn't know much about autism. For anyone who has some autistic-ish or adhd-ish traits, if you do want to try therapy, I'd recommend trying to see a therapist who has experience with autistic and adhd clients. You're not necessarily having therapy /for/ autism, but you want someone who can roll with the way your brain actually works and won't get frustrated if your brain isn't the same as most people's.

I struggle a lot with food texture along with the fear of my food being spoiled without me knowing. I have found through trial and error what my “safe” foods are and always have a couple on standby just to make sure I am still about to get calories in, even if it’s by 3 packs of peanut butter crackers and 1/2 a bag of marshmallows lol

All of this probably just means that you are at the correct weight for you genetically speaking and therefore you should just accept that and try eating smaller meals that you feel comfortable with, which i know can be difficult considering the American diet. Maybe you might want to consider moving to France.

I love that you metioned how you've experimented with your diet, trying unconventional things tailored to yourself. As someone who has had an equally "bad" relationshiop with food throughout my life, and have gone up and down a million times, I've finally made steady progress in a sustainable way. The biggest breakthrough or revelation I had was the simplest, but it goes against everything that's been pounded in our head societally about diet. Just play around with your food, and don't feel shame in things that end up working for you just because it doesn't follow the really rigid ideas of exactly how we should be getting our daily calories. Believe it or not, your body has a pretty good idea of what it needs most of the time, and I find that most people just refuse to listen to it, or just don't even know how to. It seems to me that to make the most sustainable progress in changing your body, you don't find what works for other, you find what works for you. That may sound really cliche, but I find that the people who preach that are often the same ones that look at you funny if you tell them you eat anyway besides 3 equally spaced out meals with corresponding foods that are "appropriate" for the time of day. It's all arbitrary, standards of how you should eat were made by people who are not you.

Have you ever tried 100% juices of various types? Example: Martinelli’s apple juice, which is literally just apples, no added anything. Gets you natural sugar, and no bubbles if you aim for still juice. I also wonder if things like orange juice without pulp is easier for you to drink than any of the pulp options? I wish you all the luck.
