This actually isn't too bad for a mineral sunscreen. It's harder to get the pigments correct in minerals sunscreen than it is for foundation, plus this doesn't really give coverage.
@oggtastic
Жыл бұрын
The base of a sunscreen is naturally white because zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are white and is what provide the sun protection. It's really, really difficult to create a dark tinted sunscreen without a white cast because you'll need to add black to the pigment to darken it, but black + white = grey and that's what produces a white cast. There's no justification when it comes to foundation but sunscreen is a whole other issue.

For those who already bought a sunscreen with white cast make sure you moisturize your skin with a hydrating moisturizer and apply the sunscreen dot by dot or by mixing with the fingers which helps in spreading an even layer without any visible white cast . Hope it helps ❤❤

what you’re suggesting works by ending up applying less sunscreen than you need to properly protect you. it’s not very good advice if you plan on going in the sun or the uv index is 3 and above basically. better just apply the whitecasty sunscreen and put makeup on top

There is something that has to be discussed because I think people fail to understand it. Mineral sunscreens are made with zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. Zinc oxide is also a white pigment, so it'll leave the white cast on almost everyone. I'm very pale myself, I often struggle to find a shade pale enough yet I still have white cast from mineral sunscreens. Now that we know it imagine how hard it is to create a nice, dark and deep shade when you start with a decent amount of white pigment. It's just extremely difficult, so instead of bashing a brand let's appreciate their efforts and wait for more. And I'm not attacking Monica by any means, I'm very glad she's showing there are options, but I just wish people in the comments would also look at the technical side of makeup and skincare. Unfortunately for now there are mostly if not only chemical tinted sunscreens that are dark, but let's hope for the best. The makeup industry developed so much over the last decade or even less that it's probably just a matter of time to get dark tinted sunscreens that are mineral for all dark skinned beauties

It's because the active base of sunscreen is zinc oxide or titanium dioxide which is what provides UV protection. Both of which are naturally white. To add a dark tint to it you'd need to add black. White + black = grey and therefore a grey/white cast. It's super difficult to make a dark tinted sunscreen without leaving a grey cast. There's no excuse when it comes to foundation but sunscreen is super tricky.
@KingKikikoi

Nah avoid tinted sunscreen. Use a really good spf that doesn’t give a cast then use your normal foundation on top. It has way more iron oxides than tinted sunscreens anyway which is why people seek for tinted options to counter blue light.

Im not even mad because even on pale skin zinc oxide is difficult often leaving a weird gray sheen. Im usually in the medium dark to dark range. Its next to impossible to make Zinc oxide dark enough to match my skin. There are plenty of tinted sunscreens without Zinc oxide now that match my skin. Supergoop just came out with a really good one. If you are dark like me just give up on physical sunscreens. Zinc oxide is never going to be able to get dark enough to match especially without a gray hue.

Don't do this. You won't get the listed SPF. You're literally watering down your sunscreen. Also, it changes the consistency in unpredictable ways. You may be robbing your sunscreens ability to create an even coat and ending up with patchy sun protections.
