How long have you (MakeThatChange) lived in Canada? I was born and raised in Toronto ('m 68), and trust me, Canada today (2024) is not the same country. I've lived in NYC, San Francisco, Ft Lauderdale, London (England) and Amsterdam, and moved back to Canada approximately 25 yrs or so ago. I don't even recognize Canada, this isn't the country I grew up in. The country I was proud of. All Politicians, Liberals, Conservatives, and NDP, the Banking system are corrupt. We're completely surrounded by corruption and most Canadians don't even recognize it, let alone acknowledge it. We're overtaxed, and every social system, including the Health Care System, is falling apart. And by the way, the Health Care System is falling apart because Politicians want and/or are helping the system to fail so they can privatize, making money on the kick back. Corporations get huge tax breaks, literally paying NO TAXES, placing the burden to carry the country on the middle class, which by the way is all but disappeared. Tax dollars are wasted by all three levels of government. In Toronto, Olivia Chow (NDP) wants to spend over 8 million dollars to rename Dundas St, because a few idiots are triggered when they see the name. Those idiots need to get therapy, which by the way, was once paid for through our Health Care System. That money can bet better spent elsewhere, where it is needed. It amazes me how ignorant and uneducated people are in Canada. They have their heads in the sand. I don't know how old you are, but you don't look much older than mid-30's, and I suspect you have been in Canada no longer than 20 yrs, at the most. So, you have NO BUSINESS talking about how great Canada is. You don't know what a GREAT COUNTRY Canada once was, and what a terrible country Canada has become. You're also don't mention that most Immigrants (approximately 35%) leave Canada with the first 5 yrs and either move to the States or another country because they realize there is NO FUTURE for them in Canada unless they've immigrated here with a LOT OF MONEY. Real Estate is sky-rocketing, Renting is through the roof, Labour Unions are being destroy and gotten rid off, Company Pensions are becoming a thing of the past. Banks pay no interest on accounts, yet, charge service charges for every little thing, even to close an account. Education is becoming way too expensive, maybe you think it's cheaper here, but trust me Tuitions have skyrocketed and you just brushed past Student Loans, like it was nothing. Today, most people will spend 10 to 15 yrs to pay off their Student Loans. Should someone want to leave their house to their child when they die, that child will have to pay Capital Gain Tax at 22% of the property value today. It's impossible to get ahead in Canada, or at least not in way one once could. I'm fortunate, I was born in 1956, and mad a LOT OF MONEY before all these corrupt changes came to fruition .Today, young people don't stand a chance. If you're going to make a video, KNOW YOUR SUBJECT!

The people in Calgary are easy to strike up chats with and I see lots of different ethnicities and cultures (as a caucasian). A Canadian lawyer who led his career in NewYork came back to Montreal to care for his aging parents. He told me that for his career, New York was better, but for retirement, Canada was better. Another person, American lady immigrated to Canada because she couldn’t afford the medication which she needed to stay alive and well. My neighbor’s son moved to the states at age 37. He worked in California, then moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he bought a house. Weather and career opportunities were his two reasons for moving out of Canada. I don’t know if he will stay there permanently considering the unbearable heat waves hitting this part of the country.

There's probably a lag on how US election cycles affect immigration, since one doesn't just up and move to Canada one day, it can take years to line up the pieces. My wife and I do consider the possibility of political violence in our calculation to move to Canada, at least as much as any frustration with policy or political deadlock. One thing I was surprised to see not make the list was climate anxiety. Maybe people just don't understand how bad it's going to get, but Canada is poised to be a great place to ride out a hotter planet, for ourselves but particularly for our newborn daughter.

I think you are giving a skewed look when comparing Immigration numbers during Trump and Biden Administration. Since the Trump Administration. There are two major factors , which contribute to Canadian Immigration from U.S. The overturning of Roe vs Wade. And aggressive Anti 2SLGBTQIA Conservative State legislation. Both of which can be traced back to Trump Administration/ GOP far Right influence.

I'm not overly political but I admit the political climate here in the US is wearing on me. Both sides act like bitter sports rivals that can't stand anybody across the aisle. That extends to more politically active voters. Of course I don't know what it's like in Canada though I have seen the UK parliament and how crazy it can be there

Do all immigrants who move to Canada. Thanks for the 24/7 Traffic. Overcrowed grocery stores, malls, concerts or any other event. The destruction of community centres, hockey arenas, grocery stores and hospitals, just to build more condos. The elimination of any culture of community. All local pubs gone. No need for amenities that the city has to pay for like pools or arenas anymore. They keep using the excuse "aging population". What ever that means? But I think we have that covered by doubling populations in major cities.

What zoo do you live in? I cannot think of any Canadian town or city that does not have functional Arenas, community centers, City Halls and grocery stores that I can zip in and out of easily. Yes traffic may suck in some cities but that is not unique to Canada. What on earth are you going on about?
@rosssmith8481

@rwilsonweir5697 All these things are true. And all have happened in Surrey. 3 grocery stores, all within the city centre are gone. Since this post is 3 months old, there is an update. The last bowling alley will be closing soon. The recreation centre with a pool and Gym are schedule to be torn down soon. We also lost a roller skating arena. The 7 story outpatient hospital is a condo tower. Instead of concerts all the time like they had in the 20th century, we have a cover band playing in a pub considered "an event" now. Maybe you think society is better in the 21st century. But from my perspective there is way less culture now. Of course they cancelled the Santa parade again. Actually Vancouver only has protest parades now. No more sea festival. Italian days is a day. When there actually is a concert, you pay $500 to see singing and dancers, but no band. I couldn't care less where the immigrants come from. They could all be Irishman each carry a million dollars. It doesn't matter. Packing more people into the country solves nothing. Why should I have to pay for housing with my tax dollars for other people. I don't like socialism. Like they say: "Socialism is great until you run out of other people's money."

@@rosssmith8481 Well that is very disappointing to hear. I actually used to live in South Surrey back in the early 90s and White Rock was delightful and while Surrey was beginning to grow it was a functional community. Sad to hear that so much has changed.

As an immigrant in canada I completely disagree, canada is a worst place to live high taxes, less mo ey for your pocket, expensive rents and no chance to buy your own house due to super expensive housing and little to no opportunity to move up. Labor focus industry with a govt focus in making a modern age slavery lifestyle.

I have lived in Japan before and they have a better system than the USA as well with a government single payer system.

As a gay person, I moved states in the U.S. to get to a more welcoming area. I still would prefer living in Canada because the politicians seem to despise those in the LGBTQ community or they stay silent on the issue. Mass media likes to keep the issue going as if it is a two-sided debate on whether or not gay, bisexual, lesbian, or trans individuals should have any rights at all. It isn’t a question, in my opinion. I don’t really think either party truly stands up for LGBTQ people at the end of the day. Democrats seem to be quiet most of the time. Republicans openly bash the LGBTQ peoples.

@@mathematicaleconomist4943 Yes, but if you are one of those richer Canadians then the lower pay and additional taxes would be much more than what you would pay for health insurance in the U.S. This would be the case if you were making $100K per year, which isn't even rich these days. I didn't feel any safer in Canada than in the U.S. so I'm not sure what peace of mind you're talking about.
