Production or assembly? China do a lot more than assembly. Especially the new titanium sheet phone which is notorious to work with which I doubt India can work with. Foxconn is also loosing competition to Chinese counterparts and Foxconn don't represent the entire Apple supply chain. Overall too few information to really see this shift to India. India still have labor law tougher than China ehich I dont see improvement in the foreseeable future.

Apple would likes to shift more of the production to India and faster to de-risk. But China is a very big shoe for India to fill and that will take years to ramp up the skills, manufacturing ecosystem, and cut the terrible redtapes. Right now Indian government wants Apple to change the charge connector on older iPhones which is idiotic. Cheaper labor does not mean lower cost if the workers are poorly skilled. Chinese workers are some of the best and most productive in the world.

I agree, and then it will increase the same thing that happened in china case, and after the peak, think of another country instead of India, the best bet is only diversification. You just can't rely too much on one. I think they should go max 25-30% of their iPhones in India, more than that, you start to become dependent.

Meanwhile Vivo, oppo, OnePlus and Xiaomi are assembling their phones in India. What you say is just nonsense. In fact, it took a pandemic for Apple to consider assembling their products in other regions, not just India. While the whole world opened to work after vaccination, china did a terrible job in controlling COVID 19 and continued its lockdowns and restricted people's work. This is what triggered apple. And India is way better since there is no dictatorship government. In case of scrutiny, Apple can challenge the Indian government in courts. Now imagine doing that in China. Lol.

@@bobpritham2660 Do Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi assemble their phones in India by themselves or by local (Indian) partners as demanded by the Indian government? I'll let you do your homework. Whether a country has a dictatorship government or not, it has nothing to do with its productivity. Working ethics of East Asian (Chinese, Korean, Japanese) far exceeds Indian. Legal action means time and money so you'd better find workers who can comply and follow the procedures, LoL.
