The old boys don't go anymore. It's all about the corporates and the coach parties. Their main reason they go is to get drunk. You go to any track in the UK and you'l find a dozen places to get a beer and about one or two to get a tiny, overpriced tea or coffee. By race 5 the coach parties are fighting each other and the corporates are staggering around making fools of themselves (mainly the women). Hardly any go to the parade ring and a handful go the winners enclosure. Racing caters for people who aren't interested in racing.

Absolutely spot on. The real racing crowd is slowly becoming a thing of the past & I just don’t see it ever being the same again as it was for decades. Times are changing & the younger generations have a different view of racing. To top it all off, the costs are ridiculous & as Matt Chapman says, racing isn’t doing nearly enough to bring new & younger people in.

If my wages had gone up by the same percentage I would now be earning £120k…guess what Cheltenham?!.. I ain’t!! If it wasn’t for the booze buses they now attract the attendances would be even more reduced because real racing fans are stopping going but of course they are only interested in beating last years ££££ figures!! Jockey Clubs own bar was charging £6.50 for a sandwich, £3 for a can of soft drink, £1.70 for a chocolate bar!! Cheltenham increased racing from 3 days to 4 days which diluted the quality of races over those days in pursuit of the dollar! Cheltenham are pricing out those with a limited expenditure & if they continue with the price increases the attendances will continue to fall.

Treating its paying customers with utter contempt. Charging owners £20 to park, Then charging £30 to be towed out of the mud bath of a car park. Ordinary racegoers being charged the same to be towed out. Prices of food are frankly extortionate for mainly average or second rate food. Alcoholic drinks extortionate, soft drinks and tea, coffee again extortionate you cannot use cash except for betting. A over priced , second rate racecard. Thats just for starters, Drug use at this and other meetings there is common place. One of my sisters who was there this season. She went into the ladies to finding well to do women in their 30s and 40s sniffing white powder in groups. High as kites! They didn't care and the toilets aren't checked regularly enough. Its now a place to be seen , A cash cow for the industry and they frankly don't care. The way to hurt them best is by publicly showing these thing to people and hit them un the wallet. Betting structure needs to be looked at on course to attract proper racing punters. Lots of proper punters now stay at home due to much bigger odds.

I've never been to Cheltenham but looking at the (still) large crowds is enough to put me right off. Far too packed, very expensive apparently, it must be hell trying to watch the racing, get a drink, a bet on, a bite to eat etc. No thanks. I went to the National at Aintree once and never saw a thing, far better watching it on the TV. You listen to TalkSport and they try and paint a picture of what a great time they're all having. I'm sure they are, but they're in Corporate and don't have to pay for anything. Uncompetitive racing most of the time doesn't help either, these days it's normally a case of which Willie Mullins horse are you going to pick. I forget the race but he had 7 out of the 10 runners. My favourite meeting is at lowly Catterick, in November, for their first National Hunt meeting of the season. It's great. OK, the racings nowhere near Cheltenham level but it's far more fun.

After 3 days gone with the first two days a non event. Willie Mullins 50 runners 6 winners Dan Skelton 8 runners 4 winners. Congratulations on reaching 100 winners WM. However, after 29 years since your first CF winner. After flooding the the cards with 40 plus runners each year for the last 10 yrs. It can be safely said you are also the trainer with the most losers in Cheltenham Festival history.

Drinks to dear , accommodation to dear , parking to dear and you could be left in the mud . Was there Thurs Friday and if it wasn't for the Irish we had no atmosphere at all . Where are the English owned horses , we dont have horses or the class to compete with Mullins etc , WE ONLY HAVE OUR SELVES TO BLAME

I don't go anymore, 4 days? too many places to hide, no competition. Food, drink, and accommodation too dear. The crowd has changed, too much Charlie, the place to be seen, that will change. £30 for parking? £30 to get pulled out of the mud? 4 days too much, bring back the 3 day festival. A week in the sun all-inclusive, cheaper than a few days at the festival.

I used to enjoy going to races as I was a mug gambler. I loved a punt, got excited watching the race, picking winners etc. Since discovering Betfair exchange, I have learnt a better way to make money from horse racing. I would rather be at home sat in front of a computer making money than going to the races as gambling was the main reason why I originally went. The gambling landscape has changed forever. For the same reason I don’t go to greyhounds or football matches anymore. Gamblers are staying at home.

Lots of deflections by the panel here. It has nothing to do with uncompetitive racing. Put the ticket prices down to 2015 levels you’ll get similar crowd numbers. There are other factors of course but that’s #1. I went Tuesday- it’s way better now actually as smaller queues. £15 for a pasty and soft drink - £7.50 Guinness zero - they are scamming people and thankfully the punters have responded. They deserve what they get

I used to go to Cheltenham but it became ludicrously expensive. Taking into account train travel, food and drink, betting money on top of the admission ticket it all adds up to a very expensive day out. Unpredictable weather can ruin the whole experience so better watched on TV. I won't be going back.

Exactly mate, same as that. Parking, entry, food, drink, it's all a complete rip off, extortion. They completely take the p!ss. Facilities are inadequate, 3 or 4 deep at the bar, queues for the toilet, ridiculous. I was there about 15yrs ago, all of the above factors, I had an epiphany and said "d'yu know what, never again!"

Its the cost. We used to go down every year from York but a combination of cross country not doing advance fares and the entry fee going through the roof post covid, killed it. We watch in pubs all week instead now
