When I was new to the sport and looking to buy a bike I saw one of your videos. I didn't want a carbon bike. Didn't think I had the experience to take care of a carbon bike. I bought the Cannondale CAAD13, Shimano 105, and rim brakes. The lowest spec. Over the 3 years I have had the bike, I have added 50mm carbon wheels, a carbon seat post and handle bars. I just bought a carbon saddle. My bike rides better and is lighter, 7.7kilos w/pedals, than most of my friend's newer carbon bikes. And I can do 90% of the maintenance on my bike. Best decision, thank you.

I bought a Cannondale Six13 new in 2005 for 4000$ American. Saffron (orange) color with full Dura-Ace minus the replaced pedals and cassette which are now Ultegra. It weighs 17.5 pounds with bottle cages and pedals and still looks brand new with over 30,000 miles on it. Seriously only one small nick on the fork. Bikes this caliper are in the 10,000 range now. It shares duty now with several other bikes, but when I want to go fast and climb, this is my first choice. But at 64 years old, any day on a bike is a good day.... Cheers everyone.

If you don't mind external routing (ie. nothing goes into the frame) and are OK with not riding with wide tires, find a CAAD10 as it uses a 27.2 mm seatpost diameter, which would make finding your ideal seatpost way easier than the CAAD12's 25.4 mm seatpost diameter and I'm speaking as somebody who prefers the CAAD12.

I dont ride road bikes on a weekly or even monthly basis, but I think it is simmilar as in moutain biking: Companies like to introduce new things, because it is easier to promote something which had no time to be tested in the long term by average users. Since the things they introduce are supposted to be better, they are being called better by the mainstream. Both average people and pro riders get caught by big companies there: Sponsored riders ride new bikes with the new things, majority of the non sponsored ones want the same as it is the safe choice to choose something simmilar. Then non competetive average people with a bit of money want the same, because it has to be better if pros use it, right? And thats how the thing goes, unless you do or have someone who has their own point of viev and opinion, does unbiased research and testing, you wont be able to determine whats worth buying and what isnt. More expensive doesnt necesarilly mean better. Just because it is newer it isnt better. Not sure if you can relate, but an example from the recent cases is Shimano CUES. Comparing it to even M610 Deore groupset is a joke or a crime, depending how serious you look at it.
@jurekgadzinowski2895

I would like to add that as much as some things might be called gimmicks, bigger range of newer groupsets is a good thing. less than 400% of range like in the mid 2010s simply isnt efficient when your route includes both steep uphills and downhills.

Why Are Cannondale Selling Such JUNK Road Bikes Now? Answer: Because Cannondale isn't Cannondale ever since the bankruptcy.
@Accu53Mation
Жыл бұрын
Cannondale destroyed themselves by investing too-damn-much into R&D during the late 1980's and through the 1990's. And all of that R&D, to revolutionize the bike industry, had zero-amount of production bikes, that were practical and affordable to the consumer. Anyone remember the Raven mountain-bike? Yip. The R&D cost of that model was nearly Trek's entire net profit for 1999. R&D, bankrupted Cannondale as many back in 1999-2005, saw little point in paying $5K, for a bicycle(though today's woke culture, I guess it's quite logical to pay $12K). Still. Cannondale frames are constructed in the very same overseas manufacturer, that Trek, Marin, Specialized, Giant, Cube, Rock Machine, are made. Don't be surprised to see Cannondale bikes in retail stores within a few years.

The Systemsix is fast, in a way that you can really feel unlike a lot of modern bikes. Once you get up to speeds 20mph+ (and especially 30mph+) it maintains speed better than any other road bike I’ve tried and there is also a notable amount less effort sitting in the draft. It’s great everywhere you can keep the speed up, it does however feel a bit heavy and sluggish on the climbs where your speed has dropped and doesn’t have the nimble feel and responsiveness of a nice lightweight climbing bike which is my preference. A good bike for fast chain gangs and relatively flat races, but I wouldn’t choose it for every day riding.

Just bought our boy a CAAD 3 I think its from 2003 or so for $300. Its the yellow color cyclocross with a headshok and that thing is in excellent shape and he loves it. Went on a ride the other day over 30 miles and he was drafting off my ass the whole time. Much better quality than my 2022 Topstone which has been in the shop about three times in as many months.

Correction: Its a '99 Cannondale XS800. Not sure why I typed that instead of actually looking at the serial number. Just dropped a few hundred more dollars into it and its still going great for him.

Serious question: Is there any newer disc bikes out there that you do like? I’m guessing the Tarmac isn’t one 😂

Agreed...and a good looking bike too. Good period for road bikes, and that Cannondale reminds me of the Colnago Mega Master and VIP 2000.

I can tell you speak the truth, new sub here, I was buying bikes since I was 18, I'm 55 now, I stopped buying anything 2014 or newer, I feel like it's just a scam now, they just want charge you the price of a good used car with a straight face! how does a one-ton car have the same value of 7kg bike?

Caad 10 Functional, affordable, and basic. Which means the required ingredients to make it happen. No unnecessary fluff, just my dream ride. Live it, live it. love it

That’s a bit harsh - I wouldn’t call the CAAD13 junk. But the older models certainly compare quite favorably with the current models. I definitely agree prices have gotten out of control relative to actual improvements in performance and quality. I think the only major breakthrough in cycling in recent history has been electronic shifting, and even that took a while for me to realize the benefits.

Think it was Lawrence Carpenter who recently paid 1000gbp for a bike service. Mapdec had bike where the Campag battery had died. Replace the group set?

I don't mind other channels selling out those superbikes. Cuz at the end of the day most consumers back of with the price tags that comes with it. With the exception of those oil princes, no one starts biking with superbikes.

Yep you're right they all got to greedy, I'm doin up my 2007 Trek SLR mtb atm, it's still 3-4kg lighter than anything metal nowadays, today's mid priced mtb's are ship anchors and anything worth considering big money.
