No vaginal birth aren't usually 'normal life next day'. Some few people can recover in that little amount of time but not the general population. I’m on the other end of the spectrum where i was brain washed about vaginal delivery being the best and not being given any information about c section. Nurses became very friendly with my sis- in-law, one day my sis- in -law told the nurses that she wants normal delivery and she is doing all the yoga and exercise and she is prepared for pain. One of the nurses told her quietly that the doctor of the hospital prefers c section. My sis in law did not pay that much attention as through out pregnancy, doctor told her that everything is normal. 2 weeks befor due date when she went for normal check up, doctor told her that her Blood pressure is high and should go for c section today. My sis in law thought but i am feeling absolutely fine. So straight away inn10 mins, they went to family doctor who showed them that BP os absolutely fine. Well, she realised that nurse was correct. Gynea was trapping my sis in law to c section. My sis- in law went to different gynea and told them to charge for c section if they want to but she wants normal delivery. New doctor said there is no c section, you are absolutely fine. She had normal after 10 days with no complications. Women needs to be educated about their health so that they can take thier own decision. But in india some doctors only see their benefit, less time mor money, less staff usage.

Labour pain is the most natural thing while delivering a child. How much ever you use epidural to kill the pain while in labour, at the end without the pain you cant deliver the baby. Idk if you know, they would stop epidural after you are 10cm dilated and ready to deliver. Only when the pain starts you are allowed to push the baby out and have to wait for the pain to be back again after few seconds to push the baby again. So pain is gain, the gain is you are rewarded with a baby at the end.

I always wanted to give birth naturally but I got scared listening to people, including my Dad who is a gynecologist, that it is very painful and I would not be able to handle it, as i am overweight and sedentary. My doctor had not spelled out C-section and even tested me for vaginal delivery but also told that the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck, which may complicate matters and got me admitted for delivery early due to liver issues. I told her to try for inducing labour but before that my water broke with meconium in it, and claiming that the baby is in distress, I was made to undergo emergency c-section. Thankfully, I have had no complications or pain afterwards. Most women like me are either scared or they are misguided by others including the doctors. Ignorance and fear for the wellbeing of the child and the mother makes us agree to whatever they say, because they are supposed to have our best interest in their minds. Unfortunately, sometimes that may not be the case. I would suggest all women planning to have a baby talk to your gynaecologist even before you start trying to conceive.

@@90nandithasuresh12 Yes, in my case, the c section was definitely the right decision. Yet, my water broke after midnight when I was already admitted in the hospital and till then, my doctor had not discussed anything about the delivery, what are the pros and cons of each procedure and what are my options available. She hadn't even offered her professional opinion about which might be better for me. Also, after my water broke, my husband asked for the doctor twice but was told to wait till pain increases. Finally, I asked him to get the nurse and I explained everything and insisted that the doctor check me. Otherwise, who knows how long my baby may have been distress and what effect it might have had on him. But I am eternally grateful that they responded and the entire medical team worked hard to save my and my baby's life, and I am also fortunate that because of their expertise, I didn't suffer any pain or complication during or after delivery. All I am saying that apart from all that, my doctor and all doctors should discuss the workings of both normal delivery and c section with the expectant mothers so that they can make an informed decision.

Being educated, it's each mother's right and responsibility to assess her childbirth options from her OBGYN. Her consent is essential for a C-section. Childbirth Counselling is essential and ethical legalities understood. Being a public sector medical undergraduate having no benefits whatsoever for a C-section, I can assure you being a premier tertiary health care institute, there are cases where C-section is essential to save mother's life several times. Every child and more importantly the mother is precious.

I've seen this trend of c sections as a mode of delivery by my doctor friends, the reason being unable to tolerate labour pains, bypass foetal distress ( told by an obstetrician herself ), few wanting to deliver at an auspicious time of the day. This is a bad development. The obstetrician tries her best to convince her patients to opt for normal labour but the final decision is by the patient. Many a times the obstetrician doesn't want to sit and monitor the patient who has set into labour and wait for an untimely emergency c section, so she directly advices to go for a section (from my experience in a small set up). It's confusing whom to blame here.

Tribe Sail : she could have died in labour, if you are right then my all the mothers of india before 1990 in villages would have died. In those days home birth was The only option because of no doctor in next 10 villages. Labour is a natural process. First time full labour cycle can be as long as 30-36 hours. Why western women undergo normal birth more than c section? Doctors in developed countries where medical facilities are free are under no pressure to go to different city during their shift or to make money. A mother is given a plan book, where she expresses what kind of birth she want( c section, normal, pool birth, in shower, with partner, without partner or with support person( i think called doula ). If every thing is fine, midwife recommend on normal birth. You can even choose home birth. Midwife comes to the house. Pain management is discussed with midwife 21 days before birth. Hospitals in europe countries do not admit mother for birth until she is in 3rd stage of labour. Women stay home in pain for first and second stage which is about average 8-12 hours long. They do not die of pain. Doctors say only come to hospital when they pain is constant every 4 mins and last for roughly 45 seconds. I personally know women india who went to hospital on first few pains of labour. If water breaks then it should be quick rush to hospital. All the women who give normal birth and bears pain fo not die.

I am a pediatrician and want to point out a few stuffs from the point of view of the parents who want a safe birth to a child after nurturing the fetus in the womb for 40 weeks. Firstly the parents are educated about everything about fetal n neonatal outcomes from the internet but counseling regarding obstetrics stuffs are done less. Secondly when a woman lands up in a labour room with pains n doubt in mind n apprehension most of the times she gets verbally not so calmed down or is shouted off on by those at LR to deliver in many of the facilities. And thirdly as many women have prior gynec issues n opting for ivf its like a rise in "precious pregnancies" which of course they do not want to risk by hours of labour. In gist i do not support inadvertent use of C section myself. But before thinking of cutting the numbers of c sec down, we shld address the reasons behind auch choices instead. Proper counseling by obstetrician and neonatologists and anesthesiologists before hand and availability of painless or less painful options for delivery wld b helpful ones in long run.

i was lucky that i had good doctors and child birth educators to guide about normal delivery, while both the options were on the table, the doctors were encouraging for normal delivery unless i developed some complication towards the end. They stressed the fact that having normal delivery will enable me to return home in 2 to 3 days, whereas in c section it may take longer depending upon the healing. i almost chickened out in the middle of labour and asked for c section, but the doctors and staff said that normal delivery is one time pain and i get to be with my baby immediately, whereas in c section it will be painful after the surgery and i may not be able to hold the baby also. so yeah i was guided properly. however the same is not true for all, in some places it has become a norm to do c section, they scare the hell out of you, my relative was so scared that she didn't even consider normal delivery. same with another relative. broadly what i have observed is that this kind of practice is geography specific, and by that i mean that practices vary place wise.

I asked many doctors for epidural anaesthesia... Being denied by each doctor. They said that epidural can be harmful for the baby and increases chances of instrumental delivery. The other option of giving vaginal birth involves episiotomy i.e. being cut down there and doctors dont feel the need for consent to cut you down there. My personal experience of caesarean section was really good. Atleast it is predictable. A women going into labour and opting for normal delivery could ultimately end up on caesarean table even after enduring excruciating amount of pain.

U know what , normal delivery can happen with u halfly sitting or semi sitting by support of pillows behind ur back on bed, if u have birth by half sitted position by spreading ur legs out, the baby comes out more easy due to gravity too as compared to giving birth in sleeping position , and this half sitted birth can occur on hospital beds only Not all women have deadly labor pain, labor symptoms can be like u how u feel in belly during vomit , etc too If pain is too much u should know there is a painkiller medicine called epidural given by injection, but Indian hospital don't give u that Women should be allowed to walk, squat down or as such to ease labor movements inside labor room, but all these things are not done , nor available nor allowed to do in Indian hospital, if u ask for it, doctors turn hostile lol U KNOW WHAT, In some years back Doctors even didn't show mother her baby after delivery and also used to feed cow milk without parent consent, and not give baby to mother for first breastfeeding in first 1 hr, instead they fed cow milk without telling u And now they don't even allow natural birth to occur, even if no complication is there, they instill fear in u so instead of giving right reproductive education and promote ceserean to earn money There are various other techniques like sitting or semi sitting, or walking to ease pain and induce good labor movements during delivery, taking epidural painkiller if ur pain is beyond ur tolerance, using a vacuum pump to pull baby out if mom is sleeping (like shown in 3 idiots), giving oxygen mask or breathing balls to woman in devery room to easen pain, allowing one of her relative like her mother to calm her, etc. Cesearean happens if there is extreme complications like transverse horizontal baby and all But hospitals don't give u an option at all

If the awareness of appropriate pain relief are offered early on, like in US,Canada, countries in Europe etc - epidural, entonox (laughing gas) etc and their side effects during Vaginal birth vs. the side effects of C-section, then more women would opt for Vaginal births

I had a c section 34 years ago. It was necessary at the time but definitely it caused health issues. I feel that counselling service should be part of the expecting parents and the medical personnel interaction, specially for first time parents. Today people live away from parental homes and do not have the care and support that they traditionally had from their families. Professionals need to step in and help. There could also be groups where they can share experiences and concerns. Good advice and proper information is a must in making an informed decision. However qualified the medical personnel maybe they need to respect the patient's right to make an informed decision.

The day before my wife’s delivery (which was promised by the obstetrician to be normal vaginal), the anesthesiologist came into our hospital room and told us to be firm with the OBG doctor that it should be a normal delivery only. We were both taken by surprise since both my wife and me are doctors in Bangalore city ourselves. We had no reason/indication to believe a caesarean would be necessary. But at the 11th hour the OBG doctor forcefully carried out the caesarean. We felt terribly betrayed. The obstetrician competence metric called “normal vaginal to cesarean section conversion ratio” should become mandatory throughout hospitals in the country. Also there is a tie up between radiologists and obstetricians. The obstetrician sends her private patients to the radiologist and the radiologist gives a report “oligohydramnios” or less water which is an indication for cesarean. It’s a symbiotic relationship. How do you break the back of this racket? The obstetrician sends more and more of her patients to the radiologist and the radiologist returns the favor by providing a safe indication for doing a caesarean.

Ya, risk is called a risk for a reason. Risk doens't mean 100%, but it's a grave chance that the doctor has to inform of. If something would have happened, people like you would have beaten the doctor for not informing about the risk, or not insisting for an option like C-sec if the risk was known.

Our bodies are equipped to deliver naturally with minimum intervention. Women have been doing that since time immemorial. Knowledge and support go a long way to instill confidence in the mother. The midwife and doula practice is very common in the west and should be encouraged in India as well. It’s a big support before and during labor and even postpartum.

I wish we could have consulted another Gynae instead of going for C-section of my wife. Doctors are actually looting public creating fear of anything and everything. The doctors wanted my Mom to go through a normal surgery . And I couldn't come out . They started injecting excess amounts of oxytocin which significantly increased her pain . And I still didn't come out . My mom's blood started leaking into my body . The doctors didn't notice this and they finally decided to give a c section . They day I came out I was almost black and I started spitting some black fluid . Which is my Mom's blood along with my own blood . I was put into the incubator for 7 days . My mom had to literally undergo the pain of a normal pregnancy and perform c section.

We need doctors who care about the patient and not about the charges. Doctors these days scare the family about all the risks that are involved if they don't go for C-section. When asking them, they always say that C-section is safer no matter if everything is normal for mom and baby. Doctors should guide appropriately to the patient instead of scaring them and leaving them no choice.

Also if we look at it psychologically, pain is has a subjective component to it. That's when along with the fact that different people have different pain sensitivity, there are also their beliefs about how they can handle it....for example "I will not be able to handle it", "this is beyond my ability", "there is no other go than to avoid it" etc. These beliefs can have a huge impact on mood and anxiety levels, which in turn affects how one is facing the pain (opting C section v/s normal delivery). Just like one of the doctors mentioned about counseling and most of them mentioned about 'information giving,' I guess it's time we start using it as an integrated approach. Some weeks before the delivery, if a gynaecologist and a Psychologist work hand in hand with the woman am sure the rates of opting C- section over a potential Normal delivery for the fear of pain will come down drastically.

Who really desires to have a C-section something is wrong with your information maam maximum women want a veginal normal delivery but c-section are pushed up by situations complications and sometimes purposely done by some hospitals and some doctors as it's done in my case if I get a proper support I would like to share upon my birth awareness that in my case my c-section has being forcefully pounced upon me creating the worst situation of getting to happen placenta previa, all doctors know if patient is doing a proper follow-ups and getting all reports clearly u can know that example, my placenta was lowering in my 5th month sonography report as I am the only working women in my house as well even earning and I was transparent to this to my gynic but she did not inform me to rest I am 35weeks now uptill now I have done 5 sonography from my 3rd report it started showing placenta lowering I got to know about this in my 4th report that too from the diagnosis doctor till the time it happened to become lower lining placenta previa after that I started gaining knowledge From my phone about placenta previa, I got 5th report done because I could not believe I am having something as such just to reconfirm, finally my doctor told I have to do c-section as through out my delivery I was just wanting to have normal veginal delivery as I had one successful normal delivery 10yrs back and having one daughter this is my second pregnancy, due to covid I don't want to risk my life in any government or trusty hospital so I choosed a private hospital, why do some doctors do as such just for the sake of money this will definitely come unto her perhaps i would definitely spread my story where ever possible.

I have also heard of many cases when the woman wanted to have a normal delivery, but due to some medical reason she was told only c section is possible. Now, a woman can only trust and do nothing else. The question comes about integrity. Was it really the reason? If so, why are the medical complications more for woman in india? Not a single childbirth educator, doula or a midwife on the panel what a shame! Birth workers are essential if you want change anything at all on birth scene of India. If we relegate traditional midwives as backwards and uneducated we will surely hit 100% c section rate. Doctors rarely see an undisturbed physiological birth anymore in there training. Even ‘normal’ births are ‘medically managed vaginal deliveries ‘ that all they see. Where is the respect for physiological birth?

BIGGEST REASON WHY BABIES IN INDIA ARE UNDERWEIGHT IS CESAREANS. DON'T GO IN FOR CEASAREANS because usually cesareans take place before full term is complete. So the baby does not get to gain weight inside the mom. If your doctor says c-section is necessary because cord is around neck or there is meconium/poop in the amniotic fluid GO AHEAD AND GET A SECOND OPINION. I live in the US where doctors DO NOT DO cesareans at all unless there is a serious health risk. Both my babies were born full term by normal delivery. I was 53 kg before pregnancy and gained 11 kilos during each of my pregnancies. Was only able to eat vegetarian food during both pregnancies due to smell and taste sensitivity to meat, onion and garlic. Had absolutely no house help in the US so did all the house work until my mom arrived in the last month of pregnancy. Both babies were born after the age of 30. My older baby girl was 3 days over due date and when she was born after 18 hours of labor there were traces of meconium/poop in the amniotic fluid but the doctor said that is completely normal and ok. She weighed 3 kilos and 750 grams My son was born 5 days before his due date after a 5 hour labor. He weighed 3 kilos and 900 grams. My daughter had the cord wrapped around her neck once and my son had it wrapped around twice. When their heads were out the doctor simply unwrapped the cord. According to the doctors who delivered them the cord is so long that they are not going to choke on it. Indian doctors are forcing cesareans on patients for money and so they don't have to be in the hospital at odd times of day/night. Indian women are going in for cesareans because they are afraid of the pain. In the US we can ask for mild epidural anesthesia to reduce the pain.

In India, they don't give option of semi-sitting or a bit squatting to induce proper labour, even if suppose woman has neck spondilitis and don't want to give birth totally sleeping position, U are not asked abt which position u comfortable in, U r not familiar with and not even educated by doctors abt epidural at all So, even if u ask m damn sure, they don't have it, they turn hostile if u try to teach them all this knowledge If ur labor just started, they don't want to wait till 6-12 hrs of full cervix dilation and hence give overdoses of oxytocin, which make baby movements more dangerous, making ceserean inevitable Even if someone wants normal delivery only, they make u afraid, by falsely saying 'There is either mother or child condition', ur labor movements r too weak to push a baby naturally, baby is big, if u don't listen to us n something wrong occur to mom and unborn child we are not responsible, etc And most ppl don't have reproductive awareness and knowledge, similar to how they don't still have knowledge on own reproductive organ anatomies, sex edu and contraceptions, etc. So, ppl fear and say yes to ceserean Also, no facilities like birthing ball, the doctors don't allow preggo woman and her relatives to do their own efforts like letting her walk or squat or do sit-ups which are known to induce good labor before moving to labor room, it's just that once u go to hospital u lose autonomy over ur body and baby They don't even hive u bsby to breastfeed in first 1 hr, instead feed cow milk without parental consent

Let me explain: Vaginal deliveries are law of nature and nature has made it so that it happens smoothly although the pain and extreme pressure occurs but it is part of nature and not at harmful generally. C-section deliveries are helpful in case of complications as stated in video but what pollutes this system is the medical marketing. C-sections are told to the woman in many cases(many being extremely minor in which trained surgeon can get it normally instead) . Even most times just to bypass the pain that is absolutely normal in vaginal delivery and part of natural biological system of human, now that what disturbs the system . And this process gets popular among other women as they discuss with others. Fear is created very deeply for any mishap. Now this practice weakens the biological strength of woman's body of normal delivery and generation by generation as genes pass on further, human evolution will make woman fully dependent on C-section deliveries. If You still couldn't get it properly let me give an analogy: Fans when they were invented, made everyone dependent, then came coolers and now Air conditioner without which summers are impossible. I hope this would be helpful for all women
