This is NOT a spear point as the tip is not centered (though it is close). Also, if you want to get technical… a spearpoint is a drop Point varient 😬 anyhoo, The Drop Bear is on fast track to becoming my favorite crossbar lock knife. This model in particular (along with other Drop Bears).

A) Did you think how many more youtube hits you would get were you to ask? B) It can't be a spear point or a lance because "double edged" knives are illegal in Texas and manufactures do't feel like hiring a lawyer every time somebody else breaks the law. C) I've found a chisel point or "Tanto" style to be amazingly practical in bush crafting applications because I usually do need a chisel.

@@Monsoonpain The Buck 110 is offered in clip point and also drop point ( I bought one ) ! In 2001 I bought my second BenchMade folder and it had Titanium scales and the grind was a modified drop point sheep’s foot , I’ve used it ever since ! I switch off too ! I found a Buck 110 from a custom run around 6-7 years ago and it had nickel silver bolsters , coco bolo scales and the melt is clip point grind but it’s D-2

I have other grinds too that are well suited to different tasks and one Scandi grind that I really like which is a drop point ! One SOG fixed blade is a compound grind , I kinda like it for the main blade being a hollow grind but goes into a flat grind the the last 1”&3/4” to the tip ! That section is on a downward line from the top to the tip ! A master blade smith in Japan designed it , he has many design awards , it has to grow on you as you use it , then one day I went oh so that’s the purpose then I got it ! It’s model is Kiki !

@normanmallory2055 - D2 version of a Buck 110? Wow....hadn't heard of that. I heard of D2 variants on the Buck fixed blade (119), and I own the 110 in S30V and traditional 420HC....but I bet that D2 is a great performer and a great collection piece !
@normanmallory2055
5 ай бұрын
D-2 is a tool steel and 35 some years ago more like 40 a knife maker brought it in on a custom blade , it’s not talked about so much now as there are better melts ! 24 years ago I picked up my first ATS-34 months later 154-CM both are very close melts and have fine points ! 10 years ago the S30V 50V and 90V were coming in ! I bought a BenchMade 940 designed by Osborne and it has S30V melt , it’s really good on what an ALL ROUND STEEL SHOULD HAVE . ! One can add $100.00 plus to the same knife or more with S90V blade , depends on what a person wants ! Over time I’ve added a VG-10 melt on a folder and like it fine ( the blade is laminated) sharpens well , holds an edge well , doesn’t corrode! The 440 families of steel keeps the price down but it’s short on quality but easy to resharpen ! I have one fixed blade that has AUS8 melt which falls in the 440 family ! Knowing that as I liked the design I bought it anyway knowing I would have to sharpen it a lot ! I have 2 fixed models by Tops and they use 1095 or 1075 melts which has been used for knife making for 100 years , it has to be heat treated to get the 58-61 RH and it’s fine otherwise it’s too soft ! One by Scar Blades ( love that knife ) and it’s 1095 melt heat treated , if that same knife had S90V melt it would be pretty close to a $1,000.00 knife ! I’ve owned Buck folders all my life mostly the Hunter and Ranger problem free , fixed models the same !

Isn't slicing, in every respect and aspect, a matter of blade and point sharpness and edge retention? The drop point only centers force for stabbing, but adds almost nothing else. It's like cute pink leashes for cats... more about "cute" to the buyer when the cat couldn't care less.
