This kept me from overwatering my bell peppers, and Jalapeno's. I'm a new gardener. My instinct told me to check the soil and see if it was cool and moist. It was for the most part so I didn't water it. Thank God I ran into your video. It was confirmation that I did right.

When they started breeding for looks and ability to travel, they bred out flavor. A recent study showed that the gene that causes ‘green shoulders’ on tomatoes also adds a lot of tomato flavor. And I completely agree with you about home grown tomatoes! There are a few other veggies that taste dramatically better when extremely fresh. I have noticed this with cilantro, and sweet corn too. I live in Texas and cilantro is so useful, that I grow it to have it handy. It’s super fragrant just picked. And the old saying about corn holds true, “Don’t pick the corn until the water is boiling!” I don’t grow corn down here, but I have fond childhood memories of just picked sweet corn. It’s a flavor you don’t soon forget!

I noticed that when I place them directly into the sunlight and they sat there for a while they started wilting 😣 I got scared so I moved them to the back yard where they get about 4 hours of direct sunlight. But after watching this video I will now place them in the front and just make sure the soil is moist. I want them to get the adequate sun time they need

You are so right about tomato off the garden vine. One year I had so many I resorted to dehydrating them for cooking and we were just eating them like potato chips and it was a flavor explosion every bite. I had some droopy squashlings today in plenty of water, which brought me here and thankfully it reminded me about mid day droop. They look fine now that I’ve moved them into the shade. About 8 hours direct sun in Florida. Thank you.

Another great episode mr Scott. I’m feeling tomato envy at this time! Here in zone 4 I have my tomatoes sprouted and under lights but it’s at least a month until I can put them in the garden. My single seed is a boxcar willie and it’s the only seed that germinated of that variety for me. I usually just grow small tomatoes like tiny Tim or other grape types due to our very short season, but this year I’m living on the razor edge and growing a boxcar willie if it survives. Mostly because I like the name. 🤣 Love the channel! Great to see you’re growing all the time!

I feel the same way about tomatoes! When I was a kid and we had a garden, I would eat the big tomatoes like apples. I'd wash one off with the hose and just go to town on that sucker. Now that I have a family of my own, I so enjoy my small cherry tomatoes as well and this year I'm trying the yellow pear variety as well. I actually have a cherry tomato plant with some green ones on it already that just sprang up on its own from a seed that apparently found it's way into another container but didn't grow last year for whatever reason. LOL I'm so excited for them to get ripe.

Thanks for the information! It's hot as ..... well, you know! In Texas, 102 degrees today! I only had a couple of cucumber seeds to germinate (the packet said they could be planted through this month), so I planted some in June, but they're not really growing. It was kind of an experiment, even though I was surprised that even two sprouted. I've been watering first thing in the morning, but within 2-3 hours, they're drooping, so I've been watering them again around noon and then late afternoon. They're only about 3 inches tall and not really growing, despite fertilizer and Epsom salt. I keep shade cloth on them part of the day too! Then, mid afternoon, the sun is on the other side of the house, so not in direct sunlight. I may try to let them droop midday and check the soil like you said! Again, thanks!

However, even though I do drench my plants good, I DID feel the soil before watering and it was so dry! I was shocked. I think it must be because I have them in such well draining pots/soil though. I wanted to plant them in the GROUND but couldn't yet since we didn't have our fence back up (Hurricane Sally did a number on ours earlier). Finally finished that last weekend so hope to get some transplanted soon.

I'm also growing in a 5 gallon bucket for the first time, this year. Great video, and information!

It is a natural condition but tomatoes usually don't do it until its really hot outside. Could be because its in a bucket, it is drying out faster. Check the soil for moisture at the peak of the day. If its got some moisture down a few inches, its fine. If not, probably need to water more in the mornings to get that soil moist.
