My 4.25 ran like a beast for the first 1000 rounds bone stock. Then upgraded with some Atlas and EGW goodies then sealed the deal with a Ghengis Komp from Monsoon Tactical...I gotta say it runs like a dream!!! Couldn't be happier!!! Its a Prodigy...I just wanted it to be the best version of itself. I'm looking into the Platypus now that they offer a bull barrel option (: God Bless America and the 2A

Same here !!! My 4.25 was great right out of the box. I have 1400 rounds through it. Replaced with EGW sear and disco, the mag release and a Dawson 11 lbs. recoil spring with Wilson buffer. Tuned the sear spring to give me an absolute 5 lbs. very very sharp trigger (for carry) with the take up and reset adjusted on the stock trigger that gives me short take up, sharp pull and very short sharp reset. I could not be happier !!!! It is now my favorite pistol and it is hard to fire my 17 Glock and Spinger Echelon because the Prodigy just spoils me !!!!! And kudos to you on the porting !!! It will take me some time to achieve my "matrimonial money laundering" level to get that work done. Well done on your prodigy !!! Well done !!!!! 🙂

I have the 5” with an RMR and X300. I prefer the 17 round mags and it has run just fine out of the box. I’m 5’5” and wear Med gloves. I have zero issues mitigating the mag release and slide stop. Little by little, I can make upgrades as I’d like. There are plenty of gunsmiths who have ignition packages as well as custom slide putting. Even a company that can cut the 5” slide and make a flush fit comp. Depends on how much you want to spend at the end of your project.

I have to say….they are very impressive in person. I just played with one at my local shop and I am still thinking about it. A few years ago I couldn’t fathom that Springfield was going to have not one but THREE guns that actually make my head turn and strongly consider them. (Echelon, Hellcat pro, Prodigy). Picking up my Echelon next week but dammit this Prodigy is so tempting. Yes I know it’s not a Staccato, but where I live Staccatos go for wayyyyy over msrp. So this is about a third of the price.

Just make sure you find out if it has been fixed by Springfield, otherwise you'll be shipping it out immediately and not see it for 6 weeks (last I heard timeframe). After it comes back from SF, it's a machine. They do 10 different things to it, which should have been done at the factory, and not "consumer QC". That said, after the fixes, it's fixed.

Sorry to hear that. This gun does have a small break in period so don't give up. If you're able, remove the firing pin and make sure that the hole is clean and free of debris. If it is then if the light strikes persist after a few hundred more rounds, you can install a steel firing pin (~$20) and that should solve the problem. The Prodigy uses an extremely light titanium firing pin and the heavy steel pin works better. I shoot mine in competitions and it's totally reliable. Good luck!

@michaelparks2398

Oh please! These things are trash. I had the 4.25 and the 5 and sold them both because neither could go through a full mag without malfunctioning. Not to mention the fit and finish is trash. The cerakote on the slide of the 4.25 was showing holster wear after a single range session and don’t blame the Cerakote. I’m an Cerakote applicator and have numerous hard use pistols and rifles that show almost no wear, thousands of rounds later. Springfield just manages to fuck up Cerakote somehow as well. These abortions aren’t even in the same area code as a Staccato P, which are boringly reliable and the fit and finish is rock solid on. Oh and before you call me a fan boy, I carry an Atlas Athena, which makes a Staccato look about as pathetic as a Prodigy by comparison. I’m not gonna get on here and claim Staccato is the way and Atlas fanboys are just mad because one could buy three Staccato P’s for the price of one Atlas.

Almost all 1911 reliability issues come down to untuned extractors, yet no mass manufacture puts any effort into tuning them before shipment. They just drop one in from a parts bin and ship it. You get lucky... yours is tuned. Unlucky, and it jams constantly. Roll of the dice. On the plus side, that also means almost all malfunctions can be cleared up by upgrading and tuning the extractor... which is super cheap. I've bought several second hand for next to nothing, because it "jams all the time, and I already polished the feed ramp". 40 bucks worth of extractor later and 100% reliable.

Same here. After many competitions, it's still solid and reliable.
