As a long time Melda user I just don't get the UI arguments. I'm not looking for great audio tools that allow me to dial in the sound that I want for my sounds. Nowhere in that process does something need to look nice. In fact the opposite can be true. If you compare Melda's total bundle (Which I use and love) to something like waves you can see why melda operates this way: If you learn a Melda plugin, you will know every plugin. If you leanr a waves plugin, none of the things you learned in that interface carry over to other plugins. The flat, basic, no bullshit interface of Melda allows you to focus on the things that matter: the parameters that allow you to change the audio signal running through the plugin. I also don't really care about the depth of the plugin like many others. THat's the point of the tool. if I need a simple compressor I'll load something else. I've loved melda stuff for a while now and I can only say after a few years of use it becomes the most powerful set of plugins by a long shot...

Unfortunately looks matter, it’s why aesthetics is a field of study. Personally I don’t like Melda’s gui n that’s the deal breaker. Same reason I don’t fancy IK Multimedia plug-ins that much. Today your music won’t do well if there’s no accompanying visual element. Don’t hate the players hate the game.
@Projektor_music
Ай бұрын
@@lasgidikingin I disagree. The uglyness of melda plugins has no effect on me. I can produce with then fine and have done so for almost a decade... Aesthetics are important in other fields including, as you said, the publishing of music but in this case for me it doesn't matter. I believe professional audio tools should be judged on their audio processing capabilities and the way they integrate into your workflow, both of which Melda has absolutely nailed. making the plugin look better won't do anything for the first bit and may actively ruin the second part. I'm glad melda isn't listening to the aesthetics artuments too much and I think anyone judging the tool based on aesthetics is making na uninformed choice... but that's just my opinion... :)

Sound quality was the number one reason I finally went all in on the MCompleteBundle. Absolutely no regrets other than not realizing what Melda offered much earlier on. Yes, that's partially due to the interface. But now, jumping around between the 112(?) plugins, this unified style is great. I don't think about it anymore. It's efficient considering the insane depth of the plugins. Thanks for helping putting the spotlight on Melda.

The reason I used to prefer other brands wasn't even anything technical at all. It was just that I didn't like the UI specially the colors. I knew the plugins were really good but I just didn't like the UI. However, they added themes with detailed customization and I found one very nice dark theme that I just love. Their addition of multiband plugins was very welcomed by me, and sometimes they have really good sales like for Black Friday where they had some of them as low as $9.00, and so I bought a lot of them and now they are some of my favorite plugins.

You should try clicking the "Settings" button at the top right of each of the Melda plugins, and there under "GUI & STYLE" click the "Style" button. There you will find 15 styles, a way to resize components and not just the windows size, and color customizations for several things and it includes presets. My favorite style is "Argon"
@FoliaSound

Hey, I should have mentioned it in the vid, you're absolutely right! Yet I believe that proposed styles don't really fix the problem of Melda plugins general UI and UX factors. I was thinking about something more substantial than offering some half-3D skins. I believe, that Melda layout lacks a bit of visual hierarchy, which could be acheved by making it more 3D, for example, or more color shades. Argon is the only new style, that improves anything for me and makes Melda more pleasant, the rest orbits absolutely same planet of sweet clunkiness and outdated ideas. Anyway, that doesn't stop me from loving Melda plugins, to make it clear! And I'd like everybody to test them out!

Each plugin has an incredibly detailed help menu, and for me personally, I've learned more about the technical fundamentals of working in the box from the various help menus in Melda plugins than from anywhere else. Not only do they explain what the various knobs and buttons do and how they shape the sound, but they also explain how tweaking them effects things like CPU / memory usage. It's actually really, really useful information that is often conceptual in nature, which means the knowledge gained can be applied to all of your other plugins too. Yeah, the UI could be better I guess, but I honestly don't mind it at all at this point.

The thing is, they are *not* for everyone. It's down to individual taste. I found them to be an acquired taste, but once I acquired it, they became the ones I reach for first. Sonically they're the equal of the best on the market, and some of them do things that other plug-in manufacturers aren't doing. Unfortunately, especially in the case of the unique processors, the documentation is sparse. If you're the sort of person who likes tools that get the job done quickly with the least amount of fiddling, you'll probably not take to them. If you're the sort of person who likes having tools that can do so many things that you'll never exhaust their potential, then you'll find that with MeldaProduction

(note: I'm a programmer, not musician.) I think the reason Melda's plugins look complicated is because they do not make single function plugins. For example, Melda does not have MGate or MDeessor. That's because they are compressors. Of course, Melda's compressor has Gate and Deessor presets. But to find them, the user must have knowledge about them. Likewise, Melda doesn't have an MExciter, but I don't know what an Exciter is. Personally, I like the Melda's way, but I hope they will offer a long lecture on sound creation for understanding their methods.

Well, in my opinion, Melda is completely lacking of understanding good UX. While the programming and algorithm obviously is outstanding and high quality, also the speed and flexibility of the GUI system, the layout and usability are not at all outstanding. It starts with keyboard blocking popup windows in which you can't use your daw anymore until you close these, non-standard mouse interaction (swapping lmb and rmb for example), making entering values very prominent like in a mathamatical app. Also Meldaproduction is denying almost any feature request these days, and does not touch their core system since years. So most people are actually scared away but the quite poor usability and not the many features. You can also read this at kvr-forum.

I adore Melda plugins but here's the litmus test: press the 'edit' button on their flagship Turbo reverb vst and within 5 secs you will either have suffered a nose bleed or break out in hives....Yes, you can design your own reverb algorithm right down to the placement and size of individual reflections. The usual barb thrown Melda's way is people don't like the GUIs but with about 15 to choose from in any conceivable contemporary style, if you can't find one you like: better check your pulse pilgrim.

I believe for me anyway that the UI does help, but for me it has to be clear and show what is going on. @Windiguana
Ай бұрын
The lack of good tutorials is a really problem. I really believe it's harming their sales. To make matters worse the manuals are just a clunky as the UI/UX, so yeah, I'm going with lack of info in how to use them as one of the biggest factors. Honestly just information in general. Take msoundfactory for example. There are three versions and it's super unclear as to exactly what the differences are, even watching their video on what the differences are leaves you guessing. Such a simple thing to fix. JUST ADD A COMPARISON CHART ON THE PRODUCT PAGE MELDA!
@MaximusWhyman

@@Windiguana yes I totally agree. I truly think whoever the owner is or the decision-makers just doesn’t care, or doesn’t want to give up enough money to market properly. One of the biggest piss offs is that I bought MSoundfactory and was looking up tutorials on it, and there is barely anything. It doesn’t matter how much power a plug-in has if most users cant figure out how to use it.

The UI is cumbersome and there are too many settings. I appreciate the swiss army knife abilities, but they are just a workflow killer. And productivity is crucial to my mixing workflow.
