I’ve been playing with the blade 98 16x19 for a long time and am switching to EZONE 98 now because I wanted a different feel but the same kind of playability. I like 98 because I feel like I get a little more precise pace on the ball when it comes to serving and volleys I like to be more of an all court player so a 100 sq inch racquet in my opinion is for more of the baseline only kind of players who want to play long rallies and use more spin from back there. And I believe that’s why more companies are trying to satisfy that kind of player. Again in my opinion.

Hi everyone, nice video, for a Pro player 95 is maybe the best up to 98, it is very difficult to get a light racquet (less than 310g) that satisfy the whole spectrum of the game, Volkl C10 Pro is the altar of the game in such frame size, but's too demanding for a club player arm's. In spite of that for the media public the feel of a good 98" is pretty accurate. There is a good specimen with the Boris Becker London 304g 16x19 (that string pattern rules the frame for the club player) and before the yellow Yonex RDS100 was pretty good.

the first thing that pops into my mind with 98 inch racquets was Yonex with the Yonex URQ series from 1999. i think that's why all the companies are doing it because Yonex blew up and took off in the last 5 years, so they are doing what they can to grab some of that clientele. I think people automatically associate power with a certain headsize but when they play with 98 inch rackets and dont notice a difference in power, they automatically think that they are gaining in the control category.

I play with a Prince Textreme Beast O3 98. I use to play with the Wilson Hyper Hammer 104 (I think it was a 104) that gave me a ton of power and speed but no spin or control. The 98 gives me a lot more control but I have to be really careful with my string selection. I usually go with a poly or a syn gut so I can have better control.I am a big guy so I can generate my own power. The 98s I tried before I committed to one provide me the chance to generate different spins. Side, Kick, Top and Back.
@scottmackie2821

As the modern game has developed, the 98 could be the 'player's size' following the old rule of 'smallest/heaviest racquet you can play well with." Not many on the women's tour, but lots on the men's. I think if we did a count, we'd find a 100 sq inch head is still the most popular by a wide margin amongst the pro's on both tours, with more 98's on the men's side, and possibly some creep into the women's side due as you mentioned more power coming out of the 98's with beam width expansion. As a 62 year old smallish male 3.5/low 4.0 depending on league, I"ve been playing with the PS 98 16 x 19 for three years now. Plenty of power and push., but I'm feeling it when tired. Demo-ing the PS 100 Gen 3 now, and have the SX-300 coming.

I play with Solinco Pro 10 (98 sq in, 11,5 oz weight (325g), 18x20 string pattern), Solinco tour bite 1.20mm string. I like it very much. Compared it with Babolat Pure Aero (didnt like large head and low weight) and Wilson Pro Staff 97 (regular 315g, not Autograph) - this one seemed a lot more closer in the feel, but more wrist pain and less feel of power (when you swing a 325g you just plow through the ball). Yes, there is a question about control and second question: are you strong enough to swing such a heavy racket. But in the end, when you want to improve, you try to gain muscle to handle that weight, and also improve your skill to have control with that weight. And my Solinco just tells me: go and improve yourself. I have not seen much videos about this company's rackets, as I have seen videos about their strings. I don't even know if they produce them anymore. But I'm not selling my 2 Pro 10's for any price, for any time soon :D

100 can be really cool in an 18x20 but 16x19 100 is annoying. Have to compromise between comfort and control pretty severely compromising on one for the other. You can have more of both with smaller head sizes or more sense patterns. I even feel a 16x19 98 is a bit much but at least yonex has a dense drill pattern for that density and that kinda helps

I have Ezone, Extreme Tour and just selling Purestrike 18/20 and recently sold Purestrike 16/19 all 98s. Also I have Speed MP and Pro. Waiting for Technifibre F40 98 just bought second hand on EBay. I enjoy practicing with the 98’s but Purestrikes seemed too inconsistent and not as easy to manoeuvre for forehand good on single handed backhand. The Speed MP is more powerful which I like in matches as I don’t have to try too hard for power ie play within myself which means I play better as more composed and not swinging too fast etc. I will get more powerful strings in my Ezone and maybe Extreme Tour to see if that brings them up to power of the Speed MP eg Head Velocity MLT? I can serve better with the Extreme and wonder if 98 head gives quicker racquet speed. Anyway you can see I am experimenting which is a fun journey. Thanks for very clear and informative content

Hopefully if you sell a stick to a beginner, you warn them that getting a bigger string bed isn't always the best way to go. I'd recommend players concentrate on the contact point instead of buying a larger racket that's more forgiving on off center hits. I play with Clash 100 and it feels too powerful, so I cannot swing harder and be precise enough at the same time. But I cannot effort real players stick (heavy and small) as it is much harder to play with. So I am looking for the racket that still easy to play with, but which gives little more control and less power. That’s exactly 98 frame, kinda copy of those powerful racket lines with all its advantages but giving a bit more control without making the game much harder

So basically after sometime playing with Clash 100, I now want to switch to Clash 98 or VCore 98. That’s why they probably make them

Very helpful. I’m a 51 yo, respectable, 3.0 and have used both. Mentally, for me, I feel like a 100 sq in is best for me. I play against a lot of players who use 100+ sq in sized heads, so i feel 100 keeps me even. Who knows? Thx

Demoed Yonex ezone, blade and pure strike all 98s with different string combinations. I hated Yonex, really liked the blade, but somehow control and power i got out of pure strike combination was the best. So went with the strike 98 (16x19). Now I got a problem. I gotta restring often or else I get too much power. Blade probably would have been a better option for my game. If anyone is wondering, I am using luxilon 4g 125 at 55 lbs. If you guys have a better suggestion so that I avoid restringing often, please let me know.

I have the exact racket as well except i use Solinco Hyper G on my strike and it seems to calm down the power and there's a tad more spin than power on my strokes and solinco hyper G has very good durability so you won't be stringing your racket for a good month or so. However my problem is that I'm looking for power and not spin lol what string would you recommend for power

My Pure Strike 16x19 is strung with Babolat RPM Blast Rough at 52lbs - gives me plenty of spin with a bite, and very powerful whenever I hit flat down the line. The PS is such a joy to play with that I have abandoned my Wilson Burn 100 which feels clunky in comparison with the swift Strike.

I used to play with the Wimbledon HM-88 a long time ago. I remember the 98 version, but never played with it. Are you looking for one?

@@eduardohuerta5460 I actually have it. It was owned by my aunt back then. It's actually the racket I used when I started tennis years ago. But it was too heavy for me at that time. So I had some lighter ones. But now I wanna use it again but the only thing I know about it is that it's a 98sq in and made of graphite. Anything other than that idk really.

Aren't makers trying to show that pros are using closer to what they actually are...less lies! Murray uses a 95, Stan uses a 95, others too...people are starting to realise that smaller heads play better and manufacturers are following suit imo
