discount tire employee here, the reason tires of the same size sometimes look bigger or smaller is that the tread depth is not counted in the tire size meaning that tires with deeper tread sometimes actually are bigger by a few MM

I don't understand how tires can be sold so far off a real size. In this case I have a tire size that calculator's place at 32.8 inches, yet it measures in at 31.5 inches. This is with just about 100 percent tread and a rim within the width range for which the tire calls for. I get the rim width will slightly effect the overall height, and with yet another brand it is right on the money with a wheel on the wider side. This is a real problem for people who are seeking to push the tires size to the limits. Seems cheap tire companies are trying to create the illusion of a better deal while selling you a tire that is a size smaller for all practical purposes.

It’s interesting how most modern trucks come with metric sized tires and then when we lift or buy new (typically larger) tires we go for standard sizes. Unless that’s just me although my last 3 tires have been metrically sized...
@christianpastrano6247

I think it's the tire size, I don't think they make small standard tires. At least I've never seen any 31s or smaller. I got like 29s on a frontier but they are metric
@amolinari9

@@christianpastrano6247 31x10.5R15 is a standard or very common tire. But after that it seems to go metric. Although I have seen 32x11R17 and then of course a very common tire in standard offroad performance is 33x12.5R15-17 etc.

Had 33x 12.50 put on, the actual height is 31 to top of tread. Measured another guy's 35 x 12.50 it was 33 inches tall Used to buy procomps, they were close to 33 inches tall Everything I have watched has the height measured to uttermost height of tire. How are we to figure tire sizes when they are 2 inches lower than stated?
@Evildaddy911
3 жыл бұрын
To find tire height in inches from a metric size: width(1st #) * aspect(2nd #) / 1270 + rim(3rd #). 1270 comes from dividing the aspect ratio by 100 to get it as a %, dividing again by 25.4 (converting mm to in), finally multiplying by 2 because diameter is sidewall + rim + sidewall again

First of all 12.5 is width to sidewall bulges tread is narrower all terrains tread is wider than mud terrain tread widths and these measurements are when mounted on optimal width wheels mfg of tire even tells you how wide of a wheel you should mount your size tire on for best/safest operation of vehicle
