Gas planets aren't close to the Sun because during the formation of the solar system, the intense heat caused only rocky materials to survive near the Sun. These rocky planets couldn't attract hydrogen and helium due to their weak gravitational fields, leaving them devoid of gas. Conversely, the outer planets were able to retain their gas composition, leading to the formation of gas giants like Jupiter and Saturn.
