Either an item doesn’t exist or it is renewable, there is rarely any in between. Of course, trims can at least be cloned, which means that if people willing to sell them get one of each you can at least BUY a full set from someone. A good solution would be to give the netherite upgrade item to piglin bartering, that way a couple of very determined players cannot lock an entire server out an entire stage of the tech tree.
@sirokami2992

I agree a ton on the idea of making the netherite upgrade template a rare drop from piglin bartering! And that in multiplayer the reality is exactly as you put it, an item doesn't exist or it is renewable. As no matter what it is, ores, trees, structures, trims, elytra, etc. There will always be players that progess the fastest and snatch up all the resources closest to spawn, making it a desert. And the rich always get richer. I feel that no matter how Mojang could balance the game to prevent this, its just the natural state of the game in multiplayer by how the game itself is designed. So I guess if players want a fair and fun experience, it's best they play in singleplayer or multiplayer with a group of close friends.

I think having cartographers be able to sell maps to all structures and biomes would help a lot especially early on. Maybe as well you could combine an explorer map with some item in the cartography table and it would “refresh” the map to point to another of that structure excluding past ones.
@SloyXP
Жыл бұрын
It's a really good option, in theory, but it has a whole set of its own issues. Primarily, the Cartographers only ever output the same maps, and have no way of checking if the structure they're linking to has been already raided. Even if they refreshed the maps, them sending you to a place someone already stole from would be a very infuriating thing. Also someone with elytra will raid every place far faster than you can get a map to it
@sirjmo
Жыл бұрын
@@SloyXP hope mojang fixes cartographers by making them randomly pick a map to one of the trims, by picking one of the structures where it should have spawned and spawn the trim in one of the chests in that structure if there's no trim anymore. Yes the elytra player will get there faster, but unless someone gets to your target between you buying the map and getting there, you'll still get your trim. Possible exploit: you buy a new map, and have your friends ready at the possible structures where the trim could spawn. Bonus: you get directions to a random biome, which could also be useful where you don't have access to the seed/cheats. Deliberately avoiding regenning the structure/chunk as that could lead to issues. Technical issue with my idea: if the chests in those structures were destroyed instead of looted, I have no idea what could/should happen.

To combat the exploration issue, i think wandering traders or possibly a new villagers that may look mad with the burden of countless stories of places far beyond their village. This special village could be like a outcast from the other villagers and maybe they could sell a new item called the " Lost compass"(idk). I wished there was an in game way to find structures or biomes based on clues. Not straight forward like the cartographer selling you a map to the structure, but something in the world that indicates you are getting closer. Maybe each structure could have a number of sub structures like ruins or scattered materials that indicate you are within a certain distance. For example, if you manage to find a desert and wonder around, you could find some red sand bricks, and you know there is a temple within like 1000 blocks. With that information you wonder around a little more, and find some sandstone pilars, which tell you there is a temple within 500 blocks. You could calculate the position of the temple with those two pieces of info, or keep wandering until you find scattered blocks of sandstone bricks, which tell you there is a temple within 250 blocks, which would make it fun and easier to find

What I would do it make cats give them as gifts when you wake up after sleeping inside of the structure, or give them if you've ever been to that structure so that it works with nether and end structures. I'd also add maps for every structure to help locate them without chunkbase. You could either buy the maps from the cartographer, find them in common structures like mineshafts and dungeons or craft them in some way. I think pottery sherds also suffer from the same problem. The worst part about those is that you can't even dupe them. What I would do it make the dupable using netherite scraps (not 7 though, maybe 1 or 2), which would give netherite a use after obtaining netherite gear. They could also rarely be given as cat gifts like the trims could. This is actually all possible in a data pack, so as a data pack dev myself I might try to make it myself when 1.20 comes out

similar problem with slimechunks: it's _almost impossible_ to find one without external tools, you'd have to be _extremely_ lucky to mine into an open space at the correct y levels when slimes spawn, _then_ clear out a massive area and wait until you can painstakingly trace the chunks where they actually come from, unless you use coordinates, which are a less relevant version of this problem almost no one would say the F3 screen is cheating, but they are kinda iffy in the sense that they break the weird "immersion" minecraft is able to get - and it's called _debug screen_ for a reason, you're supposed to use it if the "immersion" was already broken for a different reason

And the thing is, there is an 'easy' way to make Armor Trims better. 1. Easier to find. Have Cartographer Villagers sell maps to Desert Temples, Jungle Temples, and Ancient Cities. And/Or, have Strongholds and Woodland Mansions have maps to Ancient Cities and Pillager Outpost respectively. This would mean that there's a guaranteed way to find the locations for most of the templates, with the only exceptions being the Nether Fortress, Bastion, End City, Trail Ruins, and Ocean Monuments (for Elder Guardians) 2. Easier to acquire (renewable) Now, I get that the idea behind the templates is that they're somewhat exclusive, but perhaps 'some' (one) of them could have better accessibility. Perhaps the Wandering Trader could have a rare chance to stock the Wayfinder Trim? Or Piglin's could have a rare (i.e. Netherite Hoe) chance to barter for the Netherite Upgrade and Snout Templates. And/Or, have Piglin Brute's have a chance to drop one of the two aforementioned templates. 3. Cheaper to copy Let's be honest, seven diamonds to make a single copy of a template is exorbitant. Especially on a server. Personally, I feel like x2 Diamonds, x1 Template, x1 Material would be a better recipe (it can be made in the personal crafting grid), though if that's a bit too cheap, how about x4 Diamonds, x4 Materials, x1 Template arranged in a spiral pattern with the Template in the middle. Adding 'all' of these would be ideal, but implementing even one would be better than what we have now.

maybe do a few things to make elytras less prevalent in finding structures: desert temples are more underground, they blend in more. same with jungle temples, they could even have an extension underground and are covered by trees. mansions + monuments have Explorer maps, something a lot of people forget about i think. make shipwrecks a little more buried, then it’s harder to spot them too from the sky. make new end gateways that randomly teleport you, so the traveling in the end is more teleportation based than bridging. they would be made with obsidian connecting them to the islands or something idk. make pillager guards on the outposts facing away, maybe they’re a new mob entirely that just guards outside the towers. this would be cool in general too, as now you have to take them out from the inside. after that, they structure might just not spawn any more until reinforcements arrive and you have to do it again. this would also repair the structure and any damages done. sry for long blocks of text, but yeah, those are my ideas.

My idea on fixing the issue would also fix some other issues I have for the game: First, for the Exploration part: You could buy maps or compass to certain structures from the wandering trader. Every trader wouls only have one compass. The compass would always point to a structure it wasn't looted yet. Maybe you could use the cartography table and some item aquired from villagers or crafting to rebind the compass to a specific type of structure. The compass would break when you get to the structure to avoid farming structures with only one compass. For the Armor Trim problem: To solve this, I would use the tools given by the archeology update itself. You could get trim fragments from suspicious sand or gravel when you found them on their respective strictures. Combining the fragments you would make a broken trim that could be repaired with the same recipe for cloning them. Suspicious sand and gravel would also be renewable. Gravel and sand near structures could turn to suspicious gravel or sand in certain conditions. But to avoid renewable suspicious sand from becoming too op, the loot would be playerbased. The more you farm them, the less effective it gets. This way, if you found a structure that was already looted, you would very likely be able to get a trim from it. But you also couldn't farm it for long.

Not a Mojang dev either, but my personal solution to scarcity would go sorta like this: 1. Have an in-game record of the structures that you've visited. Once you go inside the boundaries of a desert temple, an ocean monument, etc. it checks off a box in the code that allows for the next thing. 2. New interaction between villagers. When a wandering trader spawns it'll seek out master villagers with jobs and "trade" with them. Those villagers may now have an extra trade slot that has a chance of appearing once they've made contact with a wandering trader. It'll be job specific rare loot, and in this case an armorer would have a rare chance of selling you 1 armor trim based on the structures you've visited-for lets say a stack of emeralds. It's now an infinite resource attainable by everyone that still requires exploration and would be incredibly tedious to farm given the long waits between wandering trader spawns. It gives wandering traders more use, makes armor trims (and more) accesible while not necessarily farmable, doesn't hinder their intended exploration, and gives villagers some more life.

An idea is to make it so each armor trim is a rare drop from one of the mobs in the structure, since it would still show you were there and have as much rarity as they did before and maybe if the structure has a boss mob like the warden they would have a 100% drop rate for that trim, showing how you were able to conquer that foe

A good solution to is to change the villager trading system and only allow them to sell locations to other biomes and other items that can only be found by RNG. Like saddles and nametags. I also think villager trading could be altered so that if your given a structure map it constantly checks if a structure was looted like every 5 minutes. Villager trading dominated the field for so long and this change would completely improve the exploration by atleast 20%.

I remember proposing to the armor trims an effect from the material you are using on it, for example, having armor trim with gold would make piglins to notice you at a shorter distance but for 2 or 3 blocks, or having the armor with emerald will lower by 1 emerald all of the trades that have a price of 2 or more emeralds, or using diamond will increase your durability by 5 or 10, lapis lazuli for 1% of more experience, redstone make all potion effects last 5 seconds longer (which can be a disadvantage if you encounter a witch), and so on, where each material can give you a slight advantage that in late game is useless at all and only to be a custom to your armor, but in early and mid game can make your gameplay a little bit easier, making affordable to get this trims in survival as it's serves a purpose at least, and by the end, is up to you if you want to customize later.

I had an idea that the new Deep Dark portals can be a renewable, small, finite realm where you instantly spawn at a dungeon or structure of some sort. That has mobs, loot, and maybe bosses. Then once you complete the dungeon and leave, that dungeon / realm is deleted. Then next time you go in it spawns a new dungeon. So basically it is like a rogue like portal. This way you can have renewable dungeons and challenges and loot from them without having to continuously travel out further and further. Imagine the portal taking you to a something similar to the new trial chamber. Once you beat it and collect all your loot, you leave back through the portal to the normal world. The trail chamber-like dungeon is deleted. Then next time you go through its a new random generated trial chamber like dungeon

Honestly this wasn't the point I thought you were going to make, my biggest problem with the armor trims was always that they are way too expensive to duplicate, also that netherite is still the best armor so it cuts down the viable options in survival. Personally I really liked the incentivized exploration aspect, even if it's a bit dull I would rather have a reason to explore than not have one. To fix the problems listed in the video though, first I would make the wandering trader sell armor trims, not only would that massively increase the value of the wandering trader, but it would also give people an easier way to get armor trims that are either too far away or already looted from chests, I would also make them far cheaper to duplicate by swapping the ingredients. Say you wanted to duplicate your spire trim, I think it should be the trim, seven purpur blocks and one diamond, that way it's still somewhat expensive, but not absurd as it is right now, that would give everybody the ability to use armor trims
@KrimsonStorm

might be a decent solution but it has to be prohibitively expensive. it needs to cost something absolutely crazy, such as a stack of emerald blocks. If you do not, then you run into the issue that diamond has run into. Why mine when I can get a full set of Diamond tools through trade? Maybe wandering traders can be occasionally found in the same biome as the structure spawn, once looted, that can sell you a similar item.

My way to fix it would be basically: be able to craft most of the trims with their respective stones (regular stone, sandstone, endstone, prismarine, deepslate, etc.) But still making some of them be able to be found by exploring, this way if you feel unlucky finding a desert temple you can just dig some sandstone, go for a crafting table, use your only diamond and bam, you're dripping out

I agree 100%, that's why I used Command Blocks to build a world that includes a "market" that is included in every multiplayer session I host. Inside are Villagers who can sell anything the game has to offer, including Elytras and, for 1.20, Armor Trims. However, as soon as the market opens, all villagers are locked and to unlock them you have to put a collection of items that I have selected in a chest, get them back and the villager opens. So basically you "prove" that you have already discovered the item. As a result, one player has to find an item such as the Elytra and "show" it there and it would be available to everyone else. The other players then have the choice of finding the item themselves or buying it for Emeralds. I think I solved the problem well with that. However, I think it should not be a problem in the first place.

If they are going to be difficult to get then the player should have a reason to get them other than just to look cool and get an achievement soooooooo...... Armour trim material effects (in no particular order) : Lapis lazuli: more exp gained from things that give you it Redstone: activates redstone objects by crouching Diamond: increases durability and armour bars given Iron: a worse version of diamond Amethyst: lights up a radius of blocks around you (2 blocks per armour piece) Netheright: better than diamond (Now my favourites) Emerald: reduces the cost of villager trades by 3 with each piece of armour Finally Gold: piglins don't attack you so you can have better armour while travelling through the nether and as a little bonus detail gold trimed netheright with the trim from a bastion would be called gilded netheright. (Ps these effects would only work if all your armour is trimmed with that specific material)

minecraft also actively punishes you for going away from home too long. You can’t sleep and you’re usually very far from your spawnpoint, sometimes your bed may be far from spawn and sleeping would reset your spawn, so phantom will spawn constantly when you’re trying to explore. Not to mention the fact that all of your items drop on death, so going out too many blocks mean you’ll have to trudge back to your items, usually thousands of blocks away, and run back home before you die again, there’s a reason so many people play with keep inventory.

I think the solucion is killing mobs inside of certain buildings like: -if you kill a endermend near to a end city you get a armor trim -if you kill a piglim in the bastion you get a netherite upgrade -if you kill a capiton in outpost you get armor trim -if you kill a husk in the desert temple and so on... and if you have to buy parts of the upgrade to the leather worker, one of each biome, beacouse they are 7 tipes, is very nice Love your videos =)

I mean the template issue could be slightly remedied by not having a mean person on the server stealing all the booty for themselves. On Hermitcraft for example, I'm sure there's going to be shops selling the templates, but that also robs the "wearing achievements on your sleeve" angle, cause you didn't go exploring for the loot, you went down to the local Target and bought some.

Cartographers could sell you a map with nerby known structures, some could be marked with a symbol telling you exactly what type of structure it is and some would be marked with a simple question mark, which would add a sence of mystery. This would not only create a reliable in game way to find specific things but would also add a reason to go out and explore the world around you.

Honestly the solution is really quite simple. Make loot chests instanced per player, and only allow them to be destroyed if majority vote on the server goes through (you know, that one from the april fools snapshot?) -- or they have otherwise been looted by a number of individual players designated by a gamerule.

Well, it depends. The servers I play on tend to have a community area where such things are kept to be accessible for everyone; and once you got them all collected there from a bunch of people's explorations, everyone can duplicate them with their own diamonds.

I think because armor trims are only visual and you can duplicate them anyway, it's not that bad of an issue that in multiplayer someone can go around stealing them all. In a server where players work together it's fine cause they can simply duplicate and share it (maybe even make it into a currency or something in a large enough server), and in an anarchy server where that doesn't happen, the only thing you miss out on is a cosmetic upgrade. But the netherite upgrade (and Elytra by extension) probably are a problem that Mojang should address.

the solutions have already been said by other guys in the comments but am gonna repeat it anyway = 1, making use of explorator maps: having a clear goal while still having the option to stop by and do side quest is the best thing open world games (like far cry) can do and already do, having explorator maps for every structures (and maybe even biomes) will (probably) completly solve the boring and repetitive exploration provided by vanilla minecraft, the only possible problem being making exploration trivial, but this problem can be countered by the way those maps are obtained, and obtaining options we have : villager trade, wandering villager trade, piglin trade (maybe a "wandering piglin" too ?), structure loot, suspisious sand/gravel loot (easer from structures or scaterd randomly on beaches), specific mob loot or even crafts, with all those options there is for sure a way to balance explorator maps. 2, unbreakable loot chests in structures wich would give specific loot to every player that opens them (kind of like a localised ender chest), this way, no player can have there loot stolen by someone else and everybody have there chances at getting the goods, tho, the solution isnt perfect since this only work for chests, stuff like non-responable mobs (like in wood mansions and ender cities) and suspicious sand/gravel will not benefit from this system and would need something else anyway, here are the two most perfect (maybe) solutions to the minecraft exploration probleme

The state at wich Minecraft is right now is truly deplorable. I miss the days at wich I would get excited for a new update.... (please excuse my bad english) I think the best way to solve the exploration problem would be to first fix the inventory system, I mean it definitely feels outdated. I would like to see it switch from a limit by number and type of items to a more reasonable limit by weight or volume(or maybe both?). It just feels weird to think about the fact that a poppy occupies the same space in your inventory as a stack of anvils. Bundles could have been a great solution to this, but I guess we aren't getting them... Second let's talk loot. As you pointed out when joining a multiplayer server almost every single village and desert temple is already looted. I propose we have separate loot for each player. Let me explain. When you open a chest and take everything out of it it just becomes empty. I suggest that loot is generated per player, each player who opens a chest gets to take out the randomly generated loot, despite if it was previously opened by someone else. I've seen a mod do this some time ago and I think it's what Minecraft really needs to fix the old elytra problem. And finally we should fix the fact that exploring is just not fun. Spending hours by boat or climbing mountains up and down till you get to a village really is the most boring aspect of the game. I feel like there should be some rewards for all of that exploring. Maybe a new flower that does something special, hidden deep in a forest. Or perhaps some side-quests along the way to ease the boredom. We have the wandering trader just sitting there selling saplings. Let's add some trader camps or just finding the trader randomly. Maybe he could have a rescue quest or a gather quest for a map to a random structure nearby. I think that the actual experience of exploring is a sensitive subject and a thing hard to fix. I've seen a lot of great ideas here, in the comments, amongst mine. Sadly we are just a small group complaining about an old issue, what can our little chatting do to influence a tech giant like Mojang? I can't say I see the game most of us grew up with doing well in the future.... I would love to end this comment on a positive note, but I just can't, given the current state of the issue.

I think personally a huge issue with exploration is actually solved if you play bedrock rather than java solely because the vastness of rendering in bedrock makes walking around much more satisfying and immersive. It's just that everything else about bedrock sucks compared to java. As someone who plays minecraft with the goal of doing as little mining as possible, I tend to get most of my stuff through exploring and honestly quite like it...if I'm near an ocean or desert. The issue is that most biomes really lack cool structures. These trims, if played in a vanilla world, will be a huge bragging right and I think add a ton to the game, even if made scarce by other people.

What if Minecraft did the chalice dungeons from Bloodborne? Basically you make a portal structure and place some items for the ritual (they disappear). Depending on the items it generates a random dungeon in a dimension with borders. These structures have enemies, traps, loot, etc. The dungeon has a starting portal and an ending portal. You can use the starting portal to go back to your world. But using the ending one teleports you back and destroys the dimension.
@letsb3nameless665

i think a way to solve this problem would be to add pylons or some kind of fast travel system. each pylon could teleport you to the nearest biome of that pylon type, so a jungle pylon would send you to a nearby jungle. this would save space on hard drives by removing the need to save a long line of unnecessary chunks and just save the chunks for the relevant biome you want to visit. each pylon could be crafted with endgame materials so its locked behind beating the dragon, but the materials could be readily available and super common in the end, so not much exploration is required. its basically just like craftable end gateways for the overworld/nether

My Solution for the Netherite upgrade: Make Piglin Brutes drop them at a low rate, like how Wither Skeletons drop their skulls, and make Piglin Brutes respawn in bastion structures. That way, the tedium of acquiring multiple templates is balanced between choosing to farm diamonds, or farming Brutes. (I mean, making Brutes respawn would increase the difficulty of the bastion, but it would also make sense if Mojang wanted to make Netherite Gear more difficult to acquire, IMO)

Make them be more common, because finding those strucktures isn't even the hardest part. Hardest part is actually getting it from that structure because armor trims actually have low chance of even spawning in that structure. I think its the best way. And then there is about how good ur friends are, they can, you know, give you it for you to duplicate and then u give it back or the friend doesn't need it then he gives it to someone who needs it. Of someone doesn't do that, well stop being friends with them. I mean if he was trully your friend he would share.

Minecraft really needs an LoD system. There are already a couple of mods that let average PCs see thousands of blocks away without having all of those chunks loaded fully. I can see why trying to find something can be annoying when you cant find it for a long time. But thats not always a bad thing. It sounds like trims are a grind to find for a reason. For example, If you come across one by mistake you know its value. A little bit like when a pink sheep wonders through your front door unexpected, or you get a really rare enchantment you didnt need at that moment but know you would need later. Spending hours searching gives a similar joy, in the form of relief when you finally find it. Then you have the community side. When people cant do something they tend to look for outside sources, such as on the wiki or asking the community. When the community digs deeper, they always come up with weird but wonderful new ways to do things. I'm sure trims will be no exception. When people want something bad enough and are met with resistance.... We are often at our most inventive

cartographer's explorer maps were a great way to fix some of the luck dependency. Mojang just needs to expand on it and make unlooted structure maps. They could also add a fortress map, which could be obtained from bastions, and a bastion map could be otained from a bartering "accident" (the piglins should never give away the location of their home). nonetheless this would contribute to the lore of the game.

for end cities, i think that a mecanic where you throw an item (similar to an ender eye) and it you tell you the direction of the closest elytra item in a item frame. and to make it easier to new players, when you enter a portal you'll appear in a random portal, instead of maintaning consistency for each of the 20. this would make so new players could have an easier time going to unexplored chunks

Make armor trims usable to the player, NOT as a literal item. Here's how it works: The item generates client-side when a player opens ANY chest in a structure area. Once the item leaves the chest, the item disappears, and it sets a flag for that player that they already collected it. These items can only be seen/touched by players without that specific trim's flag. In the Smithing table, the armor trim slot is ENTIRELY replaced with a UI that's very similar to a loom's banner patterns, which only shows buttons for armor trims the player's collected before. or... just straight up give the player these trims upon entering a structure, anything but being an item.
@ecywlq903

Simple - make armor trims unique "boss" mob drops at each structure. This would enhance the experience for the Minecraft PVP community and ensure that armor trims are renewable. Each "boss" mob could be respawned in a specific way like the Ender Dragon, giving use to useless items. However, each "boss" mob will only drop their armor trim when a player at that structure defeats them for the first time. This mechanic may sound confusing, so let me explain. Let's say Player A goes to an End City and defeats the boss mob, who drops the Spire armor trim. Let's say Player A returns to the same End City, respawns the boss mob, and defeats it again. This time, however, the boss will not drop the armor trim. Player A goes to another End City, defeats its boss mob, and gets another Spire armor trim. Now, let's say Player B goes to the first End City, respawns the boss mob, and defeats it. Since Player B defeated that boss for the same time, it drops an armor trim that Player B can collect. So basically, Player B is actually able to get an armor trim even though that End City had been "raided" before. This mechanic makes the game a lot more fair for new players and keeps up the incentive to visit new structures.

The best solution for netherite upgrade is to make them droppable by piglin brute. So at least in multiplayer you can farm the brute to eventually get a smithing template. Respawning loot would be a nice things for multiplayer server but it's not really great in a single player word. Tho, it would be nice if there would be item frames (like the elytra) that every X hours respawns the item that used to hold. And just put the trims in differents item frame in the various structures. So both elytra and trims respawn. Maybe it may be a gameRule that by default is off for single player and on for servers.

What about locking the trims behind biome-specific mobs or minibosses (like the elder-guardian) that have to killed with biome-specific weapons, so you still have the rarity, difficulty, and exploration elements present, and they would also be renewable.
