And she is wonderful with children, always ready to slow down for a pet or to play catch with a little one. But when she goes I won’t replace her with another Malinois, mainly because at 62 I don’t have the energy to go for a daily five mile run. I had a good friend for almost 15 years, a Shiba Inu I named Hok, when his mother, and my mother, decided i should be his boy. Like this breed shown here, he was an amazing athlete too. If you reduce this dogs size, and his distance by 1/3... Some qualities of a cat, but only the good parts, not the annoying disgusting stuff. He could run straight up a tree. Climb the ladder to the hayloft in the barn. Leap, or launch himself airborn, going for the throat of the human that play attacked my brother one time. My brother, reclined in a lazy boy, caught him mid flight, as his powerful jaws snapped just short of our friends throat. Courage and ferocity. Dominant. Confident. Bold. Not the begging for attention climbing all over you type. Extremely intelligent and intuitive. Almost telepathic in his understanding of what i expected from him. Most of his training, it took only one time for him to understand and follow that rule. Like house training him not to shit in the house. I could leave a steak on my coffee table over night and he would not touch it without it being in his food dish first. My mom tried to cheat on the rules one time and gave him a meat scrap in the kitchen. He wouldnt touch it. She told him it was ok. Treat. He picked it up, took it to his dish, dropped it in, looked at her, then ate it. He could rip tin roofing panels with his jaws. He knew bad people on sight. Eventually i learned to trust his judgement. But not until after learning the hard way first. One night he woke me up. Came into my room, where he wasn't allowed to be, (cuz he was an indoor / outdoor dog, and i don't like fur, dirt, cockleburs, and woodticks in my bed.) He only broke that rule twice, both for good reason by his reckoning. This was one of them. He pawed at me and did his high frequency urgency note. After i woke, he went to the doorway and stopped and looked back. High note whine again. He looked down the stairs, back at me. Crouch. Wag tail. Quick, quiet yelp. He waited. I got up. He continued to the bottom of the stairs and waited for me. I could hear someone making noise coming from my kitchen. Rummaging around. I got my gun. I quietly went down the stairs, gun up and pointing in front of me, around every corner, like they do in the movies when entering unknown situations. He went into the kitchen. The sounds stopped. I slowly followed, ready to shoot, heart beating so hard that my eyeballs jiggled in my head. Literally. Nothing. No one there. We paused. He alerted me to the bottom cupboard area. Then the sound came again. I turned on the light to find a mouse, caught in a trap, but only by its leg. It was trying to get through a gap, and the sounds were the trap hitting the baseboard. Hok couldn't reach the mouse where it was, so he came and got me to help. Good boy. I lived in a small town one year, and had to leave him on a 60 foot runner while at work. I got home one evening to find a big yellow spot on him. And big yellow spots everywhere around his area of range. The tree. His shelter. What the fuck? Eventually i figured out someone had been using him for target practice with a paintball gun. Him stuck on that runner. No escape except for his shelter. Like a live shooting gallery. The next day i called in sick, but did everything I normally do, and parked my truck 2 blocks away and walked home and waited. Three neighborhood kids. One paintball gun. I went out my front door, walked a couple houses down and snuck up behind them. I confronted them, told them i knew where they lived, asked them what there parents would think if they knew what they were doing to my dog. I told them i wouldnt tell their folks, they could keep their gun, but if they ever do it again, ill be stopping by for a visit with the sherif along with me. That worked. No more target practice on Hok. Now here comes the interesting part... About 2 months later, we were about to leave the house. Hok waa already in the pickup bed, eager gor the ride to come. I had gorgotten sonething, cant rememember what. Dowsnt matter. I told Hok to STAY, which he always did, and went back into the house. Less than 5 minutes later, soneone is knocking on my door. I open it to find those 3 paintball gun boys standing there. The leader, the one that owned the gun, is crying, and holding one of his shoes in his hand. It has a big chunk missing from the bottom of it. One of those styles of Nike with the big thick wide heals. Hok is in the back of the truck, tounge hanging out, panting heavily. And happily. The paintball gang were riding their bikes through the ally behind my place, when Hok saw them and ran them down. Ran HIM down. He remembered the kid that did the shooting, singled him out, ran him down on his bike, and ripped a big chunk outa his shoe, causing him to wipe out and eat gravel. Satisfied with that, he jumped back in the bed of the pickup and waited for me. Hok was good with kids, before that and after. They loved him and he loved them back. But he remembered that one kid, and let him know in no uncertain terms... Fuck with me and I'll fuck you back. 2 months later. That to me, shows high intelligence, and a very human like grasp of the nature of the world. Despite the much deserved justice Hok metered out that day, i knew that it would be trouble for us. Doesnt matter what happened before. A dog attacks a kid riding his bike... Its not gonna go well for the dog. I told the kid he had it coming dontcha think? He agreed. I gave him $20 and told him not to tell his parents or i would have to tell them about him abusing my chained up dog with his paint gun, and he would get his gun taken away. To tell them he got his shoe caught in the bike, and to keep the $20 a secret, so he didnt have to explain how he got it. I could write a whole book on how amazing that dog was. I damn near did right here. Some people replace their pets with another when they die, and i considered seeking out his bloodline, his offspring, (i sired him out, breeding other purebred AKC registered Shibas for cash) to get another Split Tail Red Shiba. At that time, Shibas were easily selling for $2,000 a pup. Hok wasn't really a pet though. He was family, and more of a really good friend. Always patient with me as i learned what he knew intuitively. Always forgiving in my shortcomings and mistakes. Always teaching me new things. Always there waiting for me, eager to play and explore and run. And forever full of indomitable spirit and... Joy. Irreplaceable. Rest in peace my friend. I will see you soon, and we will run like the wind again, just like we used to back on the farm.

That dog🐶 walking BACKWARDS on the 2 tightropes is the most amazing & most insane thing I've ever seen a dog🐶 doing !! He's not ONLY walking on tightropes BUT it's doing it freaking BACKWARDS !! SERIOUSLY😳 THAT is insanely cool !!😲

These are working dogs and should never be brought into suburbia as household pets. They're smarter than their owners, exceedingly athletic and are bred to be aggressive with a high work drive. They need to work and are easily bored, and you don't want to be around them when they're bored.

I literally had one as a kid in our suburban home. It was one of the best dogs I’ve ever had and was only aggressive towards strangers approaching the car or house or sketchy people on walks. Extremely protective of the family but really friendly towards all guests and friends and made a great house dog. Also he would only get out when there was a very heated argument in the house and he didn’t like that. But other than that he would never leave even though he could easily jump a part of our fence if he wanted to. Amazing dog.

Way too intense for the average dog owner. The GSD is more intelligent. The Belgian runs into the fire .. the GSD figures out away around the fire.

I've had Belgian Shepherds for 15 years. Joe does not know what he's talking about. My Belgians are extremely intelligent, energetic, and stuck to my side. But they're also incredibly loyal and affectionate. My best buds. AKC breed standard for temperament literally states, "Giving and demanding attention." I'll never live without one in my home. Real sweethearts for their family. Just be sure you have a lot of time for them. They are not couch potatoes that can be need ignored. They want to be involved in every single thing I do. Take a walk, open mail, fold laundry, work at laptop, drive for groceries, talk to people, train in yard... he's there participating. He thinks another person. 😄❤

I'm 61 year old and there hasn't been a day in my life that I have not had at least one dog - usually 2 or 3. I've had quite a few types - Boxers, German Shepherds, Full size Coon Hounds, Shar Pei, Maltese, Pomeranian, and plenty of mixes. I currently have a 1 year old Malinois with 2 others. I have to say the the Malinois is the smartest dog I've ever had. At the same time she is one of the most lovable. She's perfectly content laying next to me on the couch or laying next to my desk chair when I'm there for hours at a time.

I adopted a Belgium Malinois & she starts every morning jumping in the air like a rabbit till I let her outside to run around. I've never seen a dog jump so high effortlessly. I've also never seen a dog climb up a tree & sit in it like a leopard. She's an excellent guard dog & chases coyotes off the property.
