As an Andalusian and specifically as a Gaditano (As Blasphemous 2 seems to be more inspired by imagery and sounds from Cádiz rather than Sevilla as was the first one) this soundtrack is absolutely amazing! I also gotta say, Súbita Caligrafía de Plata is basically what we call Zapateao, which is a type of flamenco dance where instead of instruments, the dancers make the music themselves with their stomps and feet and just like this soundtrack it picks up slowly as more and more dancers join the zapateao (lirerally means something like "shoe-ing") and the rhythms become more and more complex and polyrhythmic until it either ends or it bursts into another kind of flamenco dance as the guitars come by. It requires a lot of skill and the combination with that footwork and the musketeer-like boss must be clearer now! Also, súbita caligrafía de plata means sudden calligraphy of silver so you can take that as the artistry of the swordfighting itself!

As a spanish guy myself, this evokes way too many things. It's amazing to see this recognition from all the world. Also, as an autistic HSP, I've always been way too weird and introverted to ask for help to understand my own self and own feelings. And since music is the only thing that helps me recompose, relax and chill... this man is helping me understand why music makes me feel the way it does, and how it does. With my 33 years, I've been eager to start practising piano... and maybe in a few months, I'll be able to, and maybe express my feelings in a way other people can understand. Thank you Marco. I feel nothing but respect and love for you and your work.

What is especially amazing about Súbita Caligrafía de Plata, is that as the music picks up the pace, so does the fight with Orospina. The boss essentially has 3 phases, but there is no transition between them. It's just one moment she decides to raise the stakes. Harder patterns, more attacks, less time between them. It's like it never stops gaining speed, both the fight and the music. I haven't finished the game yet, but that is my favourite bossfight so far

"Subita Caligrafia de Plata" is such a good song for one of the initial bosses because it really makes you feel good while fighting and that you must learn to play well in order to win, just like the Sekiro OST does with its percussions. your channel has honestly helped me appreciate games so much in a way that i can best resonate with. now i absolutely love the art of this game, the painted style to the pixel art, the combat is so smooth and fluid, but. its such a hard game for me to get back into because frankly, i suck at these games. it was the same when i discovered you through the fromsoft game analysis videos. i absolutely love these games for so many reasons but i'm just so bad at them. the skill. ceiling got ever so higher and for blasphemous, at least the first one, it was hard for me to remember how cool it is from just sucking major ass and being stuck at a boss for what seems like ages but you communicating the music and its value and its nuance in videos like this really is motivating for me as a musician to get back in and really appreciate these games at a greater capacity and really power through. you doing reactions to sekiro boss themes are what actually made me firing up my console and fight the owl marco, and i finally beat his teleporting, bird wielding ass. you're the best marco, as always

I really hope you decide to make another video on the first Blasphemous game. Playing that game through the first time.... wow. You play through and take in the super-detailed Spanish-catholic influenced lore, and see the utter desolation and despair, and the effect The Miracle has on the world of CVSTODIA... And through all that plays the perfect music for portraying this world, and each situation you encounter in it. I've never seen a game where the music has that much CHARACTER. It essentially IS a character in the game. Carlos Viola deserves so much praise for getting the feel of it right. (I'm American, have never been to Spain, and i'm still enraptured by these soundtracks).

If I may, some recommendations (of course I'm recommending my favorite tracks) are Corona de Siete Azahares, Clavada y Porque Me Falta Su Rostro. Two additional themes that I strongly recommend (and love) are Su Beso de Plata Redux and Voyage of Promise, both from their respective DLC's. Sorry for the wall of text, but, as I said, I liked this analysis so much that I think it would be very, very nice to watch what you have to say about the above listed tracks. As someone who has been over and over with requests of the soundtrack from the first game the sound that I left when I saw this video was MY LONGEST YEAH BOYYYYY. I still need to finish the NG+ of the first one and save some money to get Blasphemous II but man, you've made my day. I promise I shall return when I finish the video. EDIT: As promised, I returned. Also, your analysis has made me even more hype for the game! Specially if the boss fight is for the boss who I think it might be. (I think this one might be for Orospina of the Confraternity of Embroiderers, instant fave of mine without having even seen her fight because I do embroider too, even if just as a hobby) The soundtrack for the first Blasphemous and its two DLCs (Stir of Dawn and Wounds of Eventide) is one of my go-tos for everything, and what I have heard here looks like Carlos Viola has stepped up his game for the second one, something which I thought impossible! (Seriously the soundtrack for the first one is also so frigging good. I have said that a thousand times but it is.) I am not Andalusian (The devs are, they are from Seville, to be more precise), so certain things look strange even to me because the way they live Catholicism in Andalusia is special even among Spanish Catholicism. But man, even with that, I feel such a surge of pride every time I see people from the most different backgrounds enjoying these games that are so unapologetically Andalusian. Because they are getting to enjoy part of the rich cultural tapestry of my country from people who are actually from there. And yes I am getting emotional. And yes I hope that you enjoy the first game and to see more videos dissecting the soundtracks for both games!

One of the myriad reasons I adore this OST is how so many tracks are in triple meter. I'm a little rusty on my Spanish music history, so I can't speak to that, but the flow that 6/8 and 3/4 provide sounds fantastic with these instruments, not to mention when some great syncopation is going on. Nuestra Madre is a shining example of this, especially the descending violin in the back half of the track. While quadruple/double meter isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just refreshing to have so much emphasis on a different meter that carries through the game.

OMG, YES! I remember talking to you about it in the comments months ago! So glad you enjoyed it 💜 And also I'd looove too hear your opinion on "Taranto a la Hermana Mía". It's a bit more ambient, but I couldn't help but love the visceral feeling of being dreadfully pushing forward. Of dragging yourself through the mud against everything. As the weight of the world crushed you. As the guilt and sorrow crush your soul. As your body and mind crumble. You find yourself being dragged through the mud. And fighting against it. Like the grief fills your entire being and yet a part of you refuses to collapse and give into it. This music feels "dirty", "ugly" and uncomfortable. It makes me feel gutted. But then there's the rythmic drums, like a dreaded never ending march, the tangible sorrow and sadness, which give it some beauty and very occasionally, a glimpse of hope. Of the possibility of hooe.. Anyways this is how it feels to me. Both the game and this song are very close to my heart

I would like to suggest hresvelgr (both part 1 and 2) in Ace combat Zero for another example of this kind of intense drum-focused pieces like Subita caligrifa de plata. White Bird, Pt. II from ace combat 5 has a very intense drums-only intro, and there's also a plodding drum and bassline in the backdrop for Black Cats from Call of Duty: World at War that includes taiko drums and marching snares in a few places. My personal favorite however, despite not really being a drum-focused track as much as just leaning into drums heavily, is internal conflict from Black Mesa.

Blasphemous 2 music were a huge drop off for me instead. Carlos Viola work on the first chapter was AMAZING, every soundtrack matched perfectly the level design and the general atmosphere, every piece had its own identity. By only analyzing the first soundtrack in the game, in order, "Que Las Campanas Me Doblen", "Tierras de Azafrán", "Arpegios en Ocre", not only they were perfect by themself, but they mixed very well in the overall concept of the game progress. In the second chapter all of this above is disappeared. No actual changes beetween soundtrack from level to level, same scale for 3-4 song, fewer instrument playing in general. Except for a couple of occasions, the sensastion felt was that all of his work was anonymous, like if Game Kitchen told him "we are making blasphemous 2 and we need more song" but without give any reference to get along with.

Ok.. adding blasphemous 1 and 2 to play list. Some of the best melodies are with few notes..

You should consider listening to different calls to prayers of different faiths, for example the muslim call to prayer. I think that, with you being a former opera singer, you would love the beauty of it.
