I've recently been trying out a new way to listen to music, podcasts, navigation prompts, etc, while cycle touring or bikepacking in situations where you need to be able to hear what's going on - which, while you're riding on roads with motor traffic, is ALWAYS.
Unlike regular earbuds or (god forbid) over-the-ear headphones, this method doesn't compromise your safety on the road by blocking out surrounding noises. I know I'm behind the curve, but I really do think bone-conduction headphones - weird at first, but magical once you get used to them - have finally solved a problem I've been pondering since I first started touring, wishing I could listen to drum & bass and techno on the way up a big hill AND hear the truck coming up behind me too!
