Not sure why you keep talking about Ginger like it was their mainstream peak, they were already getting less attention at that point. Saturation 3 leading into Iridescence was when they were at their most popular and Iridescence was their highest selling as well, Ginger just had Sugar.

I actually kind of agree with this take! You could say Ginger was the peak of their “mainstream” success, but Sat III leading into iridescence was def peak of their COMMERCIAL success and popularity. Around that time, I remember the vinyl for iridescence being in so many stores around the lower east side of NYC. My college even played 1999 WILDFIRE in our cafeteria one time and I was so taken aback when I heard it cause for a while, I felt like Brockhampton was just this niche thing I and other weirdos enjoyed.

Pretty good video, you bring up fantastic points but I'm honestly surprised you didn't talk about Joba's father and his death in late 2020. They were planning to release an album by the end of the year but with all that pain and grief, the album was delayed and went in a completely different direction and the death was the main theme. It obviously wasn't the main thing but it definitely was a catalyst for the break up. Also, even though it wasn't an official release, they did drop some music in May 2020 with the 'technical difficulties' tracks, in my opinion it was fucking amazing!
@LoNotes

Yeah I completely forgot about Jobs’s fathers death! Yeah that definitely played a part in their eventual breakup, unfortunately. And I did like “Technical Difficulties” but they really should’ve had that on streaming with proper promo to try and keep momentum, cause with how 2020 was going, they needed any form of momentum they could get to keep themselves in the mainstream light 🤷♂️

While some of your points were all over the place (like RR was forgettable, but arguably their best?), I definitely agree that the appeal dropped significantly after Saturation. While I love every release afterwards, and I feel some even eclipsed the Sat trilogy musically, the main appeal of them as a group was the fact they were this fun-loving indie outfit putting out music together in their South Central house. Against all odds, it just worked, and worked well. Their emotional states came through in their music. They were vulnerable, still just getting by in life, and what remained was a sense of hopefulness through their togetherness. It felt like anything was possible when they were together, they could do anything they wanted musically, and it could work if they believed in it collectively. Just watch their Lamb music video; nothing they've done since 2017 comes anywhere close to capturing that optimistic feeling. So it was a joy seeing them blow up and start selling out bigger venues in seconds. When the Ameer situation happened, a part of that togetherness was lost and nothing could bring that back. There remained a dark cloud afterwards giving the awful feeling that this group isn't as simple or innocent as they were made out to be. The dark sides of humanity had to come out of them sooner or later. I also have an inkling that signing to a major label did significantly change the music-making process. After Sat 3, they were very well-off, and their outlooks on life had changed for all of them, so things were going to change regardless. Puppy was certainly promising judging from the majority of the album leaking online, but even then, there was still this feeling of trying to recapture a magic that likely wouldn't. Then, every album since then, although very good in my opinion, felt like they were always recovering from a dark space, their music became less fun & and less care-free. It became more mature, and some people matured with it, while others didn't. So it's totally hard to say if things could have kept the same. That said, I think the memories of the Saturation era are undeniable. Being a fan in 2017 eagerly waiting for Saturation 3 to drop, and then seeing them in LA at the end of the year is a musical experience I wouldn't trade for the world.

Ok so, having listened to all of the albums included TF and TM, I think that a great deal of the reasons of why they broke up are all clear, in TF Kevin raps about it a lot and those reasons are even the main motivation of the album(if anyone cares enough you will listen to it), the previous plus the tracks from TM, where they manage to explore a bit of a new sound and renovate already explored sounds, are all focused on bringing closure to the fans, its unbelievable the amount of respect I feel for them for this. The boys where just ment to end as all things must. You can analize them by their "success" but the fact that they made it here is what sticks with me the most, plus iri my favorite too but i fuck with all of their material, love them.

i think they had a big problem where after ameer left and they never released all the songs from the puppy/pencil/team effort era they felt like underdogs, like the fans were gonna all leave because they wanted the "hard rap" of ameer and they had to start over. like when they put out iridesence and then disowned it a year later even though i think it's a very good album. they didn't understand the skills that everyone had and kevin solely tried to carry the whole thing even though with the right instrumentals like on DISTRICT or NEW ORLEANS, less "hard" members like dom and matt sounded fkin amazing. Even BEARFACE sounded hard as hell on new orleans 😭 like cmon man this kinda lead to them just riffing off of popular genres of the day on later albums imo and even though they make great instrumentals, the singles that push the brockhampton sound further got fewer and farther between (and they had to rely on more quirky shit lmao) honestly the best stuff for me has been songs where they just rap. like songs on the family when kevin tries to sound exactly like ye or songs like when i ball, nst, crucify me, the light, dearly departed where they spin older genres in a new way and just pop off on it.
