I notice that how things settled...good people got good rewards from Bran, not-so-good people got punishments cloaked in reward-type outcomes. So Jon for instance, is banished. Sounds bad, but Jon wanted to live a peaceful life up north with his friend, Tormund, and that's exactly what Bran gave him. Sansa wanted to be safe, at home, never to be tormented by those above her again. That's what Bran gave her. Arya wanted out, and Bran probably made sure she got her ship, crew, provisions, etc. Tyrion, otoh, was given the Hand of the King job to rectify all the things he got wrong even though what Tyrion really wanted was to die with a cup of wine in his hand and a whore's mouth around his... Bronn, the sellsword, was incredibly smart and skilled and used his talents to benefit only himself. So he got Highgarden, yes, and a seat at the small council table to put all those smarts to use for the realm. He probably feels like he won, but I don't get the impression he'd have the freedom to just go home and tell Kings Landing to shove it if he got sick of the work. Brienne was given her heart's dream, as was Pod. You can see logic in how Bran doles out the goods!

Thechezbailey Cheers. I really tried on other GoT based clips the last few weeks to gain insight into the mindset of grievances people were carrying about certain points. Even if I found someone with really good arguments most of those were backed by a sense of conviction that their view was based on reality. Not perception. As though their view was carved into an immovable object. Very difficult to reason with the overdramatic. The few intelligent conversations I had were with certain individuals were the ones who weren’t taking the shows outcomes personally. Even though they were avid fans. They had disappointments but were objective about it. In other words. Open minded. So my research ( just a personal quest I was on ) brought me to the realization that somehow the ones who were displaying the most rage about the shows outcomes had mixed up their sense of self ( ego) with “ ideas” or images/ projections about the show. Some images based on theories and some self-created notions of how it “should” have gone. It wasn’t based on the actually show itself. None of this is bad. It’s just curious that so many peoples sense of identity is linked with the series. So it isn’t that D&D ruined season 8. ( which is matter of opinion) . It’s D&D ruined “MY” show. Or to be more accurate. D&D ruined ME.( my ideas and projections). So they are hurt because of this so they retaliate and say all kinds of repetitive and ridiculous things and bomb review websites while their at it. Thanks and Cheers 🍻

I care they didn't tie the story up and rushed through everything so fast they literally lost their way. They should've done 2 hour episodes (or made 10 episodes) and also made at least a 9th season. Season 8 should've been entirely about the Long Night & its resolvement in a 2 hour Finale. Then used the last 20-30 mins to setup the pieces for The Last War in the Finale. I had been saying the same thing. After I calmed down and thought it through the ending made sense. But I also realised that in my opinion it wasnt butchered. D&D where in a tight spot no winds of winter and George had left the show after season 5 to finish writing it I presume. And the story doesn't really work in the end without both the night king and bran storyline. But George hasn't even come close to giving the details of that story, and likely is having a hard time with that part himself. So they could take it thier own direction and try to explain it (they obviously didn't want to and i dont blame them i dont want them to either they know and we would have known very soon that story is far above thier writing talents) or they could wrap it up quick and move towards the ending while also having to dodge paparazzi, film in closed sets as much as possible. And film slightly different endings flying characters out to sets to be little more than distractions to try to keep the ending from bieng leaked. And I now realize the ending to the long night episode soured anything after it for me, I just kept saying they better have something big planned after that. And they did but it wasn't going to be super satisfying whatever they did. And with the rush it did make things harder to understand, I get why they where rushing now though. And even if everything whent right people where still going to pissed at the ending no matter what. Yes, and who wouldn't. In the reality of the series, Bran is unknown creepy kid that sits in a wheelchair and doesn't talk a whole lot. Electing him to be the most important person in the world doesn't make any sense because we don't even know his character, we don't know him and thus we can't make this notion work at the emotional level where narratives run their course. This intellectual dissection here shows the bare bones of how the showrunners probably set it up (and mad props for making such a serious effort to show that this is how they did it) but most people will not be persuaded or satisfied. Stories of fantasy, of magic, dragons, betrayals, honor, and the wrongness of ruthless exploitation, were not told this way early on in the first seasons. It was emotional and we felt that we knew these characters and how they thought. Bran is simply not fleshed out enough to be a character of this stature. He's a puppet of some ancient cthulhu-like power, who's almost mute and always sitting in a wheelchair, and never seems to do anything of note. It is bizarre. To ask us to believe that Bran is the most subtle and farsighted of all manipulators of Westeros is basically ruining the human element of the story, making it about how ancient knowledge and capability of maybe seeing in the future are really the most important thing. That might be so, but it feels like part of a different kind of story. Bran as he is now is the wrong kind of character for this setting, and for the emotional tone established at the beginning of the story. He might be a fine protagonist or antagonist for a different series altogether -- one I suspect I would not be watching.

This type of scenario is often depicted in Science fiction movies, regarding knowing the future, Bran/3ER did see Kingslanding be destroyed, but he was seeing what WILL happen no matter what he does. as you said, the tree is the acorn, and the acorn is the tree. in Westeros events seem to be written in stone, and cannot be changed, Dany also witnessed the destruction of Kingslanding in a vision, and even though she had intent to NOT allow that to happen, it did, she even told Tyrion to tell her when she was going off track. The Hodor situation is a perfect example, Hodor became Hodor, in the future that was already set before it happened. Bran is King because he was already King in the future. Bran just did what he remembers himself having done already in some future past. in Science fiction this is called a causal loop, Westeros exist in one. Could the three eyed ravens, change this loop? , it's possible that they know what the outcome would be if they did, possibly the total destruction of man, we must not forget that if it were not for Daenery's existence, everyone in Westeros would eventually be an Ice zombie. those 200,000 that may have died in Kings Landing is a small price to pay to prevent the alternative.

You are going waaay deeper than the author's own intent. Also, Bran can manipulate and change events. He did it by calling out to his father, Ned in his youth. He interfered in the present by making sure to use Sam's emotions to get him to tell Jon his identity. In turn causing Jon to not be able to return the kind of love to Daney she had for him... Which in turn became a major reason in Danerys' total flip out. Jon didn't need to know his identity & the White Walkers still would've been defeated. Re: Kings Landing: Bran could've warned his family & the northmen of the coming onslaught & even wharged into Drogon after the Bells rung. &they could've restrained or secretly assasinated Danerys after. Basically.. Ugh

Like in the books when Bran talks to Theon at Winterfell through the Heart Tree; Theon hears a rustling in the leaves which sounds like someone saying his name. @@dimshosta Quite so, however note that you're writing this comment with the added benefit of seeing this video. As such, it's somewhat redundant to then consider all plots resolved after someone has just done such a feat for you. In other words, this is clearly an ad hoc explanation, but a compelling, well-thought out one nonetheless. Off-screen conversations about hypothetical scenarios are not the mainstay of any decent narrative. 'Show, not tell' is the old adage, and when one chooses to do neither, why should that be lauded as satisfactory? You might argue that there's more room for discussion that way, but that hardly compares to previous seasons, wherein motivations were relatively clear but outcomes not always expected. There's a clear, rational line to every character involved in the Red Wedding yet we do not consider it as either fan service nor a 'heel turn'. Again, there's a marked distinction between contrivance and the product of established characterization.

I suspect he sent the Direwolf pups to the Starks, and in the books wargs into Ghost to reveal important things to Jon, among other things. I think he also considered taking Euron at one time, as Euron talks about how the crow coming to him in dreams telling him he could fly. This whole "Bran Sees the Future" line of thought runs up against one fatal flaw: The Night King saw the future too. The Night King is - like Bran - also embedded in the Wierwood network. He has access to the exact same information Bran does. So much so that his forces are lying in wait for Bran when he goes to the cave of the Three Eyed Raven. The Night King placed wights in the ice KNOWING Bran would show up - and he did. Then there are the events of Season 7, when Jon and co. go north of the wall the nab a wight. They just happen to come across a White Walker with a bunch of wights in tow. They attack, eventually kill the White Walker, and all of the wights die - except one. Each White Walker had hundreds of wights at their command, making it unnecessary for one White Walker to "borrow" a wight for a patrol (?). Hence, that wight was planted there, anticipating a plan to take one back to Kings Landing. This and a few other things lends itself to the belief that the Night King use the wight as bait so that he could down one of Daerney's dragons. Without the dragon, he'd never get past the wall. All of this supports the notion that the Night King has almost the same exact abilities as Bran, including precognition. So, the question is: If both Bran and the Night King can tap the Wierwood net, and can see the future, how is it that a creature with thousands of years planning and skills was undone by a relative newcomer? I mean, aside from just bad writing.
@jonpray5509
4 жыл бұрын
It has to be because the future was always predetermined. Bran doesn’t change the future, he ensures it occurs the way it must. If the Night King has all the same powers then the Night King also can’t change the future and is only ensuring it happens the way it must. Thousands of years of planning mean nothing if you can’t change what is meant to happen.

Bran isn't a relative newcomer. Because he's not Bran anymore. He's Bran and Bloodraven and all the three-eyed crows before. Although.. that's achieved through the weirwood trees, as far as we know. Which you're saying the NK also uses?

No one can get away with shit with him in charge". Ned was in contention to become king back at the start in the preceding war but stayed loyal to his friend, the Lanisters even subtly offered to support their bid for hegemony if Ned had wanted to take the crown when he took King's Landing, they are the 2 most powerful houses during Robert's reign aside from the Tyrell's, and the Tyrells are ultimately defeated by the Lannisters during the war while the North is a surviving force, and again there was a Lannister backing a Stark for hegemony in the council. The Starks are of the oldest surviving direct line of westerosi royalty too, and had declared the return of their royal house during the more recent war, and the economic structures of the kingdom had come to be appreciated by many during the times there were capable hands of the king in office, on top of this having an independent North and a frail King both made Bran appear weak, which may have appealed to the others, making them more confident about getting their own way later, which likely would have became a crushed assumption after the reality of them having instated a seer king with warging powers became apparent.

You ascribe Bran with intention to influence things, motivated by the desire to fulfill what is supposed to happen, but I would say that as he knows this would happen anyway, he is either: passively “plays his role” with things like influencing Sam to reveal John’s true identity, or: actually indifferent as things are going to play themselves out in only possible way, so there isn’t any way to change the outcome.

Bran became king because he's not entirely human. And every human monarch or potential monarch in GOT always failed Robert,Joffrey,Cersei, Stannis giving up his morals for power, Dany giving up her morals for power. The Stark monarchy hasn't because they were connected to the magic of weirwoods and therefore had a magical element to their family to provide that extra buffer from completely ruining their rule as a family. Since Bran is connected to a godhood through the three eyed raven he can rule the South, while Sansa as a Stark can rule the North.

No he did not manipulate events, he foresaw the events unfolding and saw that he was the one to be there. As for why the others made him King.... Tyrion was right, people follow good stories and Bran's was a great one. More than that since becoming the Three Eyed Raven he's developed a powerful aura of knowledge and wisdom, just talking to him you know he's the one who knows things, he also has an aura of selflessness, you can just tell that he's not interested in doing anything for himself. He doesn't want to be Lord or King or anything else, he just wants to help the people. Westeros has had too many Kings who were guided by their own self-interests, the lands were near destroyed because of them, if you spend any time with Bran you can just feel that that's not him. Bran will maintain quiet and peace, he won't send the Lands into war, and he'll work to rebuild what was destroyed

No, the show wasn't done well. The ending could've been great with more elaborate hints and explanation of all these mentioned in Robert's video, but the insane rush of season 8 made it pretty much difficult to follow and think through what's going on. The ending with all these explanations only makes sense because it's some kind of GRRM stuff that was revealed to D&D years ago. That's what they could make out of it, but how they did it was miserably nonsensical. Most people don't have problems with WHAT happened in the ending, but with the HOWs and WHYs. This should've been a 10 season show.

@@Tofi_ytchannel dude you do know how hard it is to adapt 1000 plus page books into an hour long TV show right? Add to that 2 of the books arent even finished and all your working with is a loose idea of how things are supposed to end. For all the holes they had to fill in I think they did a pretty good job. Its easier to flesh out characters when you have over a thousand pages to do it. This show could've been 15 seasons long and I think many fans would be pissed just because they didn't get their and they all lived happily ever after ending. The actors all have different projects they are working on as well which can be a hard thing to work through as well didnt you notice the amount of casting changes they had? How much more would the fan base have been pissed if Kit or Emelia or another big character would have pulled out of the series before it was finished. Most shows typically get 8 seasons if they are a solid top tier show most dont last longer due to the myriad of reasons I listed and many others I didnt cover such as budget and production costs. For everything they had to work with and without the show was good. Just because you didnt like the ending because your character didnt get what you thought they deserved is being completely biased. Be glad if you truly have read the books that is that we at least got this much and if you didnt read the books and just followed the show if you want better plotlines and stories more fleshed out I think you should consider reading the books then if you are truly a fan of the characters.

It’s one thing to say the future is written... and if so, then nothing Bran did could qualify as manipulation. But it is another to suggest that one who sees the future can see a dozen ways things might play out, depending on a confluence of myriad individual choice. Bran did not tell anyone about dany burning kings landing, true- but at no point does Bran ever tell anyone about any aspect of the future he has seen, other than stating the night king would come for him. Bran did not ‘allow’ kings landing to burn, because no one really heeds prognostication... and just because you try and tell people it’s going to happen, does not mean they can do anything to prevent it. Of the possible futures that bran could influence, the destruction of kings landing may well have been the future with the Least casualties. Just as all those who died at winterfell prevented the night king from zombifying all of Westeros.

Suzuki Six - hodor still makes sense, because bran was not yet the three eyed raven...not aware of the consequences of his actions. And the 3 eyed raven did nothing to prevent Hodor from flipping out. Bran just being bran and making every choice he made without knowledge of the future or his potential influence made the choices he ,axe that resulted in Hodor. It was that experience that made him understand how one future comes about... thru the unwitting actions of the people involved. So- no it actually explains hodor, because before Bran could reliably see potential futures, he did not have knowledge of any other choices he might have made.

@@christopherpardell4418 what would him being aware of his actions have anything to do with it? How could the 3 eyed Raven have done anything? And what do you mean resulting in Hodor? That was the whole point of hodors character....to establish how time works in this story. Any other logic means Hodor wouldn't be Hodor until after.
