@@DangleSantbf, while I’m sure because of the history there is some subtle hints of jealousy between Clapton, the only guitar player to ever take Clapton down a notch, and really dethrone him was Hendrix, not page. Yes there’s no argument that zeppelin was bigger, and more successful then every project Clapton was involved in combined, and yes page was a great studio and session guitarist, could write good songs, produce, and also had a virtuoso like JPJ on base and arguably the greatest drummer of all time in bohnam , where zeppelin produced absolute gold was in their albums and what they brought out of the studio. They weren’t god awful live, but they were inconsistent live, and at times later down the road just abysmal which was almost exclusively because of page, and his being strung out. There were some shows the guy quite literally did just play just loud distorted noise through the amplifier, and he’d sit around smacking his strings around with a violin bow for 25 minutes. Clapton is inarguably just the better guitar player. But even with a super band like he had with cream and actually some really great songs, they never held a candle to the success zeppelin had so I’m sure for such a purist as Clapton at that time was is a bitter pill to swallow

He was with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers at the time and John had to call him out and tell him to behave! We were just a couple of kids asking for autographs. All the others gave them willingly, but not Eric! He even had a separate vehicle to travel in from the rest of the band, who crammed themselves and all their instruments into two battered vans. Sweeping up behind them after a suitable five minute interval came Eric in a flashy, massive great vintage (?) American car like a dining room table...mint green with tan leather upholstery. I thought later, being charitable, his grumpiness might have just been him masking shyness and personal insecurity, but who knows... Once John called him back into line he did come back and give us his autograph, grudgingly. Ten years later my mother did a clear out of the attic and threw out my old autograph book with his and a few other 60s legends' scrawls.. sad...!

Ya’ll hate on Clapton with at most, a fraction of knowledge on EC’s full career and impact across multiple genres over the past 60 years. If you don’t like some things he’s done throughout his career fair enough, if you prefer the best of the best when it comes to songwriters that’s also fair. If you just simply don’t like Claptons music that is fair as well, but if you are simply calling an all time great talent in music overrated because you don’t like him or like someone else more, your take loses some weight🤷🏻♂️

@@jeromeportier4914 I know people now a days think its edgy to hate on the beatles or led zeppelin but its obvious they are the 2 best bands that ever existed. To compare one direction to the beatles is a joke and disingenuous. The beatles were true pioneers in song writing, studio innovation, artistic presentation. They revolutionized the music industry and had two of the best songwriters of all time in the same band. Led Zeppelin were harder, Plant was a great vocalist but wrote shitty lyrics and page carried the band but they are still the second best for sure. @@TheBabakanoosh I absolutely don't agree with you on all of that. First it's not a "nowadays" thing: I've held that opinion for more than 30 years and I don't really care if anyone else shares it or not. The Beatles are geniuses is a generation thing: it's that "things were so much better before" attitude. People always want to pin a moment in time and pretend things went downhill after. I don't care much for modern music, but who are we to say it can't be as good as what came before? Were the Beatles really pioneer in song writing? How? They're not Radiohead. Most of their songs sound like easy-listening pop to me! Were they pioneers in the studio? Was it them or their engineers? Are they bigger pioneers than Les Paul who helped perfect the electric guitar and create the multitrack recorder? Seriously? Many artists will say they were their biggest influence, but that's hardly surprising as they were the most successful band in those artists's youth. I'm sure future artists who are teens now will say Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran were massive influences on them. Is it a measure of how good they are? Did the Beatles actually have more influence on music than Hendrix or Van Halen. On pop definitely. On rock definitely not. I grew up listening to Dire Straits and Eric Clapton and I'd rate those two above Beatles and LZ. And there are many artists I'd rather listen to than them, from any good bluesman to Metallica, Guns N' Roses or Rage.

If we were gonna compare each member of Led Zeppelin to each member of the Beatles, there is no comparison. Let’s see George Harrison play “The Song Remains the Same” or Let’s hear Paul McCartney play the bass parts in “Good Times Bad Times”. No contest. Again, no disrespect towards the Beatles, but Zeppelin is a rock band. The Beatles are very bubblegum. It wasn’t until their last few albums that they really became much heavier in their sound.
